  1. personal choice? at what point should the government be required to stop saving us from ourselves (even if it is only part of the military)? taks I have to agree.. We should definitely try to move towards a healthier society, but making it illegal not to move in that direction is pretty intrusive.. Nothing works better than social pressure anyway, so if we want smoking out of society we should just make it as unpopular as alchoholism..
  2. I think it's a stupid idea honestly, but they have the right to ban smoking while they are on duty imo. if more soldiers starts smoking however, you look at why that is the case rather than ban the behaviour.. you know, maybe it actually helps with their stress and if so wouldn't it be wiser to provide better stress-relieve rather than taking one away. If they do it however, I think the 20 year phase-out time is wise. By then you'll probably be socially stigmatized if you smoke anyway, if the current trend continues. But it's something I've been worried about for awhile. Goverments ban or issue taxes on unhealthy items.. mostly because, I believe, that thet believe it's too expensive for them in the long run. While they are perfectly happy with keeping people in unhealthy job conditions until they are 65, as long as said workers pay their taxes. Generally I just think it's detestable when companies/goverments feign responsibilty - something I see in my own current goverment. I'm just worried what banning smokes all together would do.. Looking at USA in the 20's I don't think goverment bans really works and many countries are still dealing with the rise in crime from when they had bans.. link works fine for me.. I hope that isn't allowed to stand, companies have no buisness meddling in your private life, I think it's okay to ban smoking/drinking etc while on the job, since it can be a health risk to other people.. but companies shouldn't have any say on what you do in your spare time, as long as it's legal.
  3. Seeing how many Europeans there are on this board I think it would be relatively easy for you to get cheap/free lodgings all over the continent, even if it ain't castles.. I know I'd offer my couch to anyone from the Obz boards, if they came 'round these parts.. Besides it's really only in France that it's somewhat payable to live castles..
  4. Tone down the "@!!X&" please, or this thread will be closed..
  5. I know.. I was typing too fast unfortunately I didn't edit it fast enough.
  6. Read Valis from PKD, it's really cool! I never liked Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? or Asimov's I, Robot, although I quite enjoyed the Foundation series. Also a boring short story I'm afraid, but very much in Asimov's style..
  7. That occured to me too, but it was an interesting topic anyway.. I'll just remove the link..
  8. A priest once told me "when you are young, you might not want to associate yourself with God, but when you are old, you will be afraid that God won't want to associate himself with you." (poor translation from danish, but you get the jest of it) I couldn't help but laugh at the subtle thruths in that..
  9. It is Empire TW - with a few mods, but not anyone that makes soldiers into mandelorians.
  10. Really? why? I don't see why it's arrogant, or especially how it's depressing, not to believe in a God or gods.. or how it's stupid to believe for that matter.
  11. Accidentally shot through my own guys.. well at least blood stains on a redcoat doesn't show so easy, they'll get over it!
  12. Again a version issue, there isn't a no-cd patch I can find which circumvents the problem.. But this thread isn't about my PS:T issues, thanks for replying though!
  13. Absolutely hilarious! It's really great to see two dev teams taking the time for some friendly bashing.. Yathzee should do more of these competitions.
  14. I did this to great effect.. Strong spells as well as good melee and it's not a terrible complex build, so it's quite easy to use. I've also used a Favoured Soul (20) / Warpriest (10) to good effect, but it's a little boring compared to the above.
  15. Unfortunately no.. changing the ini files only makes the computer look for the content of the CDs on the HD, it still needs the disks to verify it's a legit copy - and somewhere along that road it doesn't seem to think mine is real..
  16. It'll love to play some PS:T, I never finished it back when I bought it and I took out again because of the "new" resolution mods! But I just can't get it to work with the mods.. If I copy all the content on to the drives it just won't recognize my CD as legit, gods know why?, and if I don't the mod doesn't work... I've searched the webs and it seems to be related to my specific version (2 cds).. but I can't find a solution that works..
  17. I don't really know if I agree - on one side I do, since it would make it easier for the police to catch them.. but on the other side I find it wrong to take someone's rights away, simply because you've already taken some.. I wouldn't want that, because I don't need to know if any of my friends or family did something stupid in their past.. When they've served their time in prison/mental institution/with community service (or were acquitted) the crime is no longer revelant unless it has a specific bearing on a job (child molesters etc), no need to further punish them by making sure society will forever shun them.
  18. ^ it's almost pronouced like Trina.. and it seems they are related (Trina and Trine) - Trine As you can see it's almost an exclusively Danish name and an abrevation of Katrine.
  19. I think our media is going in some kind of selfdestructive spin.. they are doing meta-news on MJ death now, talking about how annoyed people are hearing about it.. Like people want to hear news about news they are no longer interested in
  20. I've had my eye on it too, but I just can get over that it's a very common girls name here.. It really makes it rather silly to me
  21. Actually I would say buying the computer used is a lesser evil, but in this over-the-top-everyone-is-a-sinner discussion (you would've made a pretty good priest 500 years ago!) it's about as bad.. See, if you buy your computer used you are sending a signal to the manufacturers that you don't want to buy their product at full price. Since they essentially lose a costumer (and thereby money) everytime you get a second hand PC/Console, they would rather find a way to sell to you directly.. By indicating price is a problem (even if that is not your intention) they will probably try to lower their prices in a realistic capacity, which often means buying coltan/raw materials from 3rd world countries.. So if you really want to do something about this problem make sure you buy a computer which uses metal components that are recycled (say from European or American garbage dumps) and from a factory that pays their workers at least the minimum wage etc etc.. just be prepared to pay 1.5x or 2x as much. Of course doing so would rob that miner in India of his jobs, thereby destroying his means to feed his family.. Choices choices choices...
  22. It would be very cool if any class could change side.. Republican soldiers could become mecenaries, Jedis could fall and Siths could be "redeemed" etc. Probably a bit too much work though..
  23. Exactly! thanks.. I have to find that game somewhere..
  24. Does anyone remember the name of a quite old sub sim game, where the "twist" was that you were in fact a member of an extremely small race, and you collected tobacco buy finding huge cigaret buts and iron by finding coins - which were the size of your ship.. It's was quite a cool game..
  25. ^ Then why not just lie down and die then.. I actually had dream like that once.. No matter how insignificant you are, you have some impact on history.. causality is our true contribution to this world, everything you do will have an influence on others and as such his teachings and life will sow the very seeds of changes to come, even if those changes means the death of his culture. I would do, like him, as I've always done - live - and try to live the best I can. What else can you do?
