Its a la fight club or memento where the main character has been deluding himself the whole time.

Everything has its allotted time. A bit nostalgic perhaps considering how much time one has spent typing with all you mopes.

The world needs people who will climb up a reactor cooling tower for no better reason than to wave to the cameras.

That's odd, beer settles my stomach, I often use it as a cure. Hard liquor gives me the runs, well, maybe that's because I only drink it in copious amounts or not at all.

I have a soft spot for activists, too bad these guys are such douches as I am sympathetic to their cause.

'Culling', don't you mean hunting/fishing, whatever it's called. Anyway of course I disagree with hunting endangered species.

That looks pretty serious, even more so if you have asthma or something.

I have been wondering though why they can't rig up a mortar device, like a potato cannon or something. Potato minigun prototype below. Maybe jerry rig one of these to fire stink bombs. Damn... I never found it in Clear Sky.

I've seen another episode since. They are getting their arses handed to them by the Japanese whalers who have the LRAD countermeasures, although they don't seem to do much, limited range perhaps. Their port authority, Holland, made them stop throwing missiles off the deck of the Steve Erwin, that's their ship, and throwing bottles from a dingie in rough seas with the target deck protected by netting, it just isn't possible. Instead they have been chased by the fast spotter ships while the rest of the whaling fleet goes about their business. Bit of an unfair match. Whale nuisance more than whale wars.

??? PETA. taks They aren't real, it was all spoof cooked up by the onion.

lol you literally live in a theocracy where you are taxed for a religion you don't believe in, but you think it's okay. This Is Capitalism. Yeah, but this way we have managed to keep the religious types placated and out of policy making. It's worth the cost. Every now and then we try to emulate the US and start a debate on gay marriage or abortion, but it never sticks, no one takes it too seriously.

I like our approach better, we have a state religion, Evangelical Lutheranism, we pay church taxes, but we never set foot in those places other than to get married or buried. We could cut the number of churches by 90% and still get by swimmingly. So is it all a ruse ?, maybe. Apparently you still have to keep up appearances though http://atheism.about.com/b/2003/06/19/doub...t-suspended.htm

Well he also wrote that if a system gets too oppressive and performs its role poorly, it is natural that it be overthrown and replaced with one that functions. Note of course that we are merely talking about removing a useless king and his inner circle, not changing the system itself. As one might expect there are several different schools of thought, but Confucius is not incompatible with rebellion, if that leads to a more 'natural' state.
-
look it's Confucius. I think it's more a situation where once hierarchy and tradition has been established they tend to be hard to do away with, as in they are effective in controlling our lives, not that we naturally lean towards forming them.

My motherboard reloads the CMOS data automatically if the machine can't boot, you might wanna invest in something with a feature like that if you have to rebuild most of your system.

Figure of speech. Although, he did create the foundation for Germany's rearmament using a system of Government bonds that ensured Germany could continue to run a deficit along with increased spending, like a second currency between industry and Government.

'RE Hitler's "brilliance": I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Dr. Schacht yet. He was the main architect of Germany's economic recovery during the 30's, clashing with the main man on several issues. He eventually got sick of raving lunatics and toadies (the two main constituents of the NSDAP), though.' I dunno, Hitler told him to get Germany ready for war in two years, it's not that hard to get the economy moving if you spend like crazy and borrow everyone else's money only to invade them before the payments are due.

Some species have made a comeback though. The numbers are contested on others. In any case qotas should be handled carefully. I support the Sea Shepard's right to carry out this kind of activism given that the Japanese Whalers have a very flimsy legal foundation themselves, but I think killing dolphins for no other reason than to eliminate a predator going after the same species of fish as the commerical fishing fleets is much much worse.

I've been watching this documentary series on the Sea Shepard organisation, run by ex Greenpeace member Paul Watson, he was one of the original founders who got the boot when Greenpeace got too media savey and organic for its own good. They track down the Japanese whaling fleet off the south pole and throw stink bombs onto the decks to foul the whale meat and make life miserable for the crews. Now, it seems obvious that the Japanese are exploiting a hole in an international treaty which allows for whaling for 'scientific' purposes. If this were really the main concern their quota would be a handful, not between 1000 and 2000 whales. They are supporting a domestic market. The adventures of the Sea Shepard (media links) is shot reality TV style even with faux drama among the crew and a dramatic high point, sometimes snatched out of thin air, to fit in with the long commercial break. No attempt is made to present the opposing view, I'm sure there must be one. A recurring phrase is how the crew are 'prepared to die' to stop the whalers. It seems to me that it would be entirely possible to carry out this kind of activism without anyone having to worry about dying. I basically think they are people who are in love with whales, and I'm sure they won't disagree with that assessment themselves, but there is a problem here: where are the cow activists, where is the movement for the liberation of pigs. Not every animal is as cute as a dolphin, or as majestic as a whale. This whole movement is carried on the notion of certain 'star quality' animals that capture the public's imagination. Your thoughts...

They quizzed Von Braun and the nuclear scientists they were able to get their hands on, as well as secretly taping them while in the US. It turns out they were quite a bit off on the basic theory. How much Uranium one would need, how it could achieve critical mass, etc. They would have gotten it eventually, but they didn't have the resources to do much of anything in the last stages of the war.

That's because Benny Hill was CIA sent to undermine British humor.

In reality the Africa corps retreated that way, they didn't surrender until you could count their tanks with one hand. I guess it's the same problem that plagues every potential invader of Russia, lines of supply. Once you are in there you are more or less trapped. Taking Stalingrad would only have been symbolic as it was reduced to a pile of rubble and could offer Germany no resources.

Meh, Lucas killed starwars.
