  1. No, I said I want to be able to talk to people more than once. As in, I want to be able to click on them again and have a chat with them. Deus Ex and Fallout used a of dialogue types - one was short linear messages that cycled through, the others was in depth dialogue trees. But even if you use this system, I still want to be able to get the in depth dialogue system for further discussion, repeating background information, repeating quest information and objectives, etc. Anyway even if I did mean what you describe - it sounds pretty solid to me. It's been a successful formula for the past few decades of RPGs. People would probably just reload if they didn't get the reaction they like. *shrug*. And I don't think being able to carry 6 guns at a time is realistic either, but I don't see you complaining.
  2. Oh? Interestingly, most of the people criticising China seem to have well-researched opinions. I know supporters of the Chinese government like to dismiss criticism by invoking the "but problems exist elsewhere and you are ignoring them!" argument, but as far as I know, there are just as many (more) people who are also championing those causes. What would you have Xard, that people spread themselves impossibly thin trying to improve all problems in the world at once? Personally I'd prefer if one group tried to bring attention to the problems in China, another to those in Lesotha and the rest of Africa, another to those in America, another to those in regional Australia, etc. The world isn't perfect, but as far as China goes, there's a lot that needs fixing, and I really don't think you can sweep that under the carpet by claiming hypocrisy or that two wrongs make a right.
  3. I don't have the bandwidth to watch a video. I'm downloading important old TV shows whose torrents may not exist in a weeks time due to the seedy nature of torrents (haha get it?). So um, a recap?
  4. No, duh, they have big backpacks. In every game the backpacks are invisible. It evolved as a defence mechanism because they're an endangered species.
  5. Cheers for the emoticon changes. Looking awesome so far!

You can listen to Deus Ex's soundtracks outside the game by downloading MODplug here: http://www.roncli.com/modplug/download.asp?FileID=2 Then using MODplug to open up any audio track from the audio (or maybe it is sound or music) subfolder in the Deus Ex folder.
  7. System Shock 2 inventory and Deus Ex were pretty good. You could explain the slightly large space by the fact that they were augmented agents.
  8. *puts fingers in ears* La la la la la
  9. Indeed. Nick and Walsingham's stances seem akin to "You had poor military leadership at an arbitrary time in history; you don't deserve freedom". I could be wrong.
  10. Hahahahahaha. That actually made me laugh. The Sierra Army Depot was one of the best locations. To answer your question: surprisingly well. Much of the system has been completed in prototypes. The next step is ironing out all the bugs and rolling it out to all combat units. Details here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Future_Force_Warrior Considering all the individual elements sound feasible, and the same people developing this developed things like the Internet and GPS, I think it will succeed. Edit: Not to mention that America's military R&D spending amounts to something crazy like the whole world's combined.
  11. Here is an example of how a Chinese person in Australia feels about the Tibet, the West, etc: I'd hate to see it before she worded it carefully.

It was awesome! AWESOME, DO YOU HEAR ME? AWESOME! I briefly concede NOLF1 was also awesome (but less so). Anyway, I never said Deus Ex graphics were realistic. It's just that they don't look like cartoons. They look better than the "high-quality graphics" crap they churn out these days. NOLF1 had fine animations. HL1 looks better than HL2. I think I just like low polygon counts or something. Or maybe the fact that the designers didn't spend all their time and effort worrying about pansy graphics and actually bothered to make an excellent game and atmosphere is what makes me appreciate the low-polygon graphics of such games.
  13. More than any new games. The newest games I'd consider worth replaying are: Vampire: Bloodlines (2004) KOTOR1 (2003) Icewind Dale 2 (2002) um... Diablo 3 (One day) Yeah that's it. **** man, I really need some new games. I just realised Bloodlines is the newest new game I've played (ignoring the disgrace that was Deus Ex 2). I guess nothing has really taken my fancy (aside from NWN2 and The Witcher).

I have come to the conclusion you have horrible taste. In everything. <3 Alexander Brandon. And <3 the Deus Ex character models. Games these days think roundness & anti-aliasing will make them have awesome graphics. It doesn't. It makes them look like cartoons.

Fallout music consists of things like voices chattering in the background and such. It's ambient music for the game. I don't really consider it "good listening music" on its own. Likewise, game music is often only fun to listen to if you've already played the game and can attach the game's atmosphere to the music. Which is why the following is silly, to me: My copy came with a "soundtrack album." The title track is OK, but the rest is a complete snore -- dull and repetitive. Most game music just wasn't meant to be actually listened to, and the Deus Ex "soundtrack" is no exception. So in other words your post has nothing to do with Deus Ex; you just dislike listening to game music in general outside games. Even then I reckon Paris Cathedral and Begin the End for example are anything but snore. Pfft.

Deus Ex has the absolute awesome in terms of game music. Icewind Dale is similarly sweet. Fallout and Diablo 2 had good ambient game music, but it blended really well - not something you'd probably want to hear separately of the game.
  17. Yaaaay! I liked the Deus Ex/Bloodlines newspapers and holopad system.
  18. ? I see it now. Why the heck doesn't it appear when I type the following? Regarding the thumbs ones: Yeah, the current ones suck tbh. The ones I presented were ones previously used. I guess I'm just nostalgic. Besides, I'd rather post a thumb than a thumb AND a lame face. And why on the left don't all emoticons show? It makes sense that if I can scroll throw them (Previous/Next buttons) that you'd display them all there. Doesn't make sense - it's not like there is a limit to how many can appear there. On perusal of the full emoticon list, I propose the following independently of the goings on of this thread:  be changed to the code :'( be changed to the code Also, I urge people to vote and submit not the emoticons which are funniest, but which you can picture people using. It gets annoying otherwise. This is why, for example, I doubt I'll vote for any of Deadly_Nightshade's emoticons. It's also probably why the ban and dead horse emoticons got chosen in the past but are never used. Moreover, 5 is a duplicate and thus has been replaced. Revised list: 1) 2) 3) 4) 5) 6) 7) and 8 ) Some of the above could be considered similar to current ones. Vote for them if you, like me, would prefer them instead of the current ones, or at least alongside the current ones. My favourites: 1, 3, 7, 8. I would edit my original post, but yet again my innocent attempts at being orderly are thwarted by a senseless time-limit to editing posts.
  19. BG1 NPCs seemed fleshed out well enough to me. Sure, they didn't have as much of Bioware's later retarded blabber, but they worked for me (and they still had interjections and background and attitude). They had soul and sass. It's true BG2 gave them a bit more dialogue, but I think the fact that the most interesting NPCs were from BG1 speaks volumes. Anyway, you reckon other games have crappy NPCs? I think Planescape: Torment had excellent ones. Far better than any of KOTOR or BG NPCs, no? And come to think of it, so did Anachronox. Fallout 2 had some decent blighters, too. I found them at least more interesting than most BG2 NPCs. And I do honestly feel both KOTOR games had great NPCs. NWN1 had horrible NPCs (except for the xpacks, which got a lot better). I mean, adding all that dialogue and angst like Bioware did to BG2 doesn't make them more fleshed out is all I'm saying. TIAX RULES!
  20. Generally the only good BG2 NPCs were good because BG1 made them good. I didn't find BG2 particularly good at fleshing out NPCs.
  21. What voting system would you use? I presume it will be a weighted-tier system? Obviously a pair-off is rather complex comparatively, and is woefully inaccurate if you wish to select more than the single best/strongest winner (unless you wish to repeat the process from the start each time eliminating only one winner... completely inefficient). I would suggest something of the form: Each user votes for 3 option 1st gets 3 points towards its total 2nd gets 2 points towards its total 3rd gets 1 point towards it total I'm not sure how many winners you want, but if you're aiming for 8 winners, you may want to give more votes per user - maybe 8 votes, but with enough voters, you could do fine with 3 or 4 votes each.
