China geopolitics
Let the foreign press have unlimited access. If the Tibetans are doing what you say, then give them enough rope to hang themselves (so to speak). My impression is that the West will side with Tibet regardless of whether China's allegations are true. In fact, I've seen multiple sources that acquit the Tibetans because "when nothing else works, violence is the only answer for a desperate people." If foreign press was allowed unlimited access, this outlet will be given free reign, and it'd set a precedent for other groups to adopt similar tactics so that they could get similar coverage from Western press - bad news for China. It's always the press's fault. Chinese man convicted for 10 years in jail for divulging "state secrets". He was a journalist who published a message from the Chinese government warning against reporting on the 15th 'anniversary' of the Tiananmen Square Massacre. That's it; that was the state secret: http://www.rsf.org/article.php3?id_article=14884 Chinese man sentenced to 5 years in prison for rallying public support of the message "We want human rights not the Olympics". Reason: subversion of state power: http://www.thestar.com/News/World/article/350435 It's a shame China doesn't have a proper legal system with things like due process.

Biggest nonsense you've ever seen from a game.
Historical head-slapping moments in video game history: The decision to make Deus Ex 2. The decision to make Fallout 3D (Bethesda) The hypothetical decision to make Planescape: Torment 2.

No One Lives Forever 1
The point is the game is not designed to be played that way. It's possibly, sure, but not what the designers intended for a typical play. HL1 on the other hand was designed to be played that way, which is why it does so brilliantly at it.

That might work in a linear algebra lecture, but in a post that just comes across as evading the issue.

Absolute Morality Vs. Subjective Morality
Uh, no it doesn't. lol I see an old lady who needs help crossing the street. I help her across. She isn't one of those psycho baby-killer grannies. Where's the negative aspect here? Also, 'neutral' is a bad term to use because you lose information, as Wals said.

Anachronox
Good thing none of that defines a computer/video game RPG. Yeah. Except not. Except so. I can name several RPGs that have little or none of that. Plot, dialogue and character design have nothing to do with the definition of an RPG? Anyway it's a moot point since Anachronox is playing much more like an RPG after planet Sunder. Di: Yeah, I'm enjoying it. I was up till like 9am playing it so I think I'll take a break for today. Hooray for public holiday or I'd be in trouble.

Anachronox
I just read that it ends on a cliffhanger. Man, I don't feel like playing any more. I need to stop accidentally reading spoilers. Llyranor: Gameplay is fine to me. Sure it's not typical combat style, but change is sometimes good.

No One Lives Forever 1
I don't believe so. As I implied earlier, I believe much of HL1's appeal is its fast-paced combat and compelling and intense atmosphere. Consider Deus Ex; it had all the good features of NOLF1, and while I adore it, as do many others, in terms of sheer popularity it wasn't a massive hit with FPS fans.

No One Lives Forever 1
The AIs in NOLF1 ran away, took cover, tried to flank you and called for help. It was awesome for its time and not many games since have improved upon it. Maybe it's because I used stealth and one-hit-killed with headshots most of the time. I guess I can see what you mean by good AI.

It's a ****ing planet! A planet. A ****ing planet. Oh my god this game is awesome. Good thing none of that defines a computer/video game RPG. Yeah. Except not.

No One Lives Forever 1
Considering that they are quite far apart (in the warped time of video game releases) and being quite different games, is that really a fair comparison? They're both FPSes, only NOLF gave you more gameplay options. And just the fighting in itself is much better than in HL 1 and 2. Why wouldn't it be a fair comparison? I don't think HL1 and NOLF are the same type of game. HL1 was all about survival, science, and a weird alien invasion. The atmosphere was completely different, the story was completely different, and the theme was completely different. The shooter aspect was the only tie, and on that HL1 beats NOLF. NOLF had great shooter elements and lots of innovations HL1 didn't have, but in terms of pure FPS style, HL1 took the cake, IMHO. And HL1 beats the socks off HL2 - that game was just more of the same, but somehow also less of the good same. My list of all-time favourite FPS's so far would be: Giants: Citizen Kabuto System Shock 2 Deus Ex 1 No One Lives Forever 1 Half-Life 1 NOLF1 had better AI, had location based damage, and better level design than HL1. With this in mind, how can you say that the combat in HL1 was better than in NOLF? Also, my list: No One Lives Forever 1/2 System Shock 2 Deus Ex Thief AvP Quake 1 multiplayer NOLF had worse AI; the enemies were dumb, how can you say that? Do you mean their search/calm modes? In HL1 marines would even dodge grenades. Location based damage is nice, but at the end of the day it's really only gravy. It doesn't make or break combat. HL1 had way more awesome levels and more intricate level design than NOLF, IMHO. NOLF had some beautiful levels, and nice scenery, but the level design (in terms of combat and exploration) wasn't special. At the end of the day, though, none of these is a particularly good reason for why the combat was better. The simple answer is: HL1's combat was just more fun to play, whilst NOLF's was more varied and gave you more choices (which is certainly fun in its own way). All references to NOLF mean NOLF1. And yeah, AvP 2 was pretty fun.

Anachronox
Well, the game seems a fair bit more fun and interesting now that I've gotten off the Sunder; more intriguing plot and less linear combat. As usual the humour is excellent.
