  1. Possible thread win. Not really. Brdavs really only described America, which certainly has problems too... but nowhere near to the extent China does. And anybody claiming two wrongs make a right as Brdavs is is an enigma to me.
  2. Well, I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure everybody values their human rights. As such any government which maximises those, such as liberal democracy, can claim higher moral ground. And any government which actively violates them likewise deserves to be demonised.
  3. Wait, what? It isn't Thornton? My eyes have been deceiving me. Wait, why isn't it Thornton?
  4. Yeah sounds likely. Not sure how they'll pull that off. Sliders style?
  5. Let the foreign press have unlimited access. If the Tibetans are doing what you say, then give them enough rope to hang themselves (so to speak). My impression is that the West will side with Tibet regardless of whether China's allegations are true. In fact, I've seen multiple sources that acquit the Tibetans because "when nothing else works, violence is the only answer for a desperate people." If foreign press was allowed unlimited access, this outlet will be given free reign, and it'd set a precedent for other groups to adopt similar tactics so that they could get similar coverage from Western press - bad news for China. It's always the press's fault. Chinese man convicted for 10 years in jail for divulging "state secrets". He was a journalist who published a message from the Chinese government warning against reporting on the 15th 'anniversary' of the Tiananmen Square Massacre. That's it; that was the state secret: http://www.rsf.org/article.php3?id_article=14884 Chinese man sentenced to 5 years in prison for rallying public support of the message "We want human rights not the Olympics". Reason: subversion of state power: http://www.thestar.com/News/World/article/350435 It's a shame China doesn't have a proper legal system with things like due process.
  6. I just made a last.fm account, so you can view my tastes for today here: http://www.last.fm/user/dexiephet/charts/?...;subtype=artist Currently listening to Radiohead - Wolf at the Door
  7. Historical head-slapping moments in video game history: The decision to make Deus Ex 2. The decision to make Fallout 3D (Bethesda) The hypothetical decision to make Planescape: Torment 2.
  8. The point is the game is not designed to be played that way. It's possibly, sure, but not what the designers intended for a typical play. HL1 on the other hand was designed to be played that way, which is why it does so brilliantly at it.
  9. That might work in a linear algebra lecture, but in a post that just comes across as evading the issue.
  10. I never understand that really. Rabbits don't lay eggs.
  11. It was in Fallout Tactics. And yeah, cool gun.
  12. Uh, no it doesn't. lol I see an old lady who needs help crossing the street. I help her across. She isn't one of those psycho baby-killer grannies. Where's the negative aspect here? Also, 'neutral' is a bad term to use because you lose information, as Wals said.
  13. Happy Easter! Even though it was actually yesterday.
  14. Good thing none of that defines a computer/video game RPG. Yeah. Except not. Except so. I can name several RPGs that have little or none of that. Plot, dialogue and character design have nothing to do with the definition of an RPG? Anyway it's a moot point since Anachronox is playing much more like an RPG after planet Sunder. Di: Yeah, I'm enjoying it. I was up till like 9am playing it so I think I'll take a break for today. Hooray for public holiday or I'd be in trouble.
  15. I just read that it ends on a cliffhanger. Man, I don't feel like playing any more. I need to stop accidentally reading spoilers. Llyranor: Gameplay is fine to me. Sure it's not typical combat style, but change is sometimes good.
  16. I don't believe so. As I implied earlier, I believe much of HL1's appeal is its fast-paced combat and compelling and intense atmosphere. Consider Deus Ex; it had all the good features of NOLF1, and while I adore it, as do many others, in terms of sheer popularity it wasn't a massive hit with FPS fans.
  17. The AIs in NOLF1 ran away, took cover, tried to flank you and called for help. It was awesome for its time and not many games since have improved upon it. Maybe it's because I used stealth and one-hit-killed with headshots most of the time. I guess I can see what you mean by good AI.
  18. It's a ****ing planet! A planet. A ****ing planet. Oh my god this game is awesome. Good thing none of that defines a computer/video game RPG. Yeah. Except not.
