  1. Some food for thought: http://www.alternet.org/waroniraq/100395/m...%22time_out%22/
  2. I don't think you've seen the last of these guys Hah!
  3. As much as I'd like to see them elect McCain so I can laugh at people like taks, the world needs Obama. Anyway, I'm not sure I could laugh in that circumstance (McCain elected) after all - you'd be consigning hundreds of millions of innocent Americans to 4 more years of social and economic degradation.
  4. This is gold. McCain bails out on his interview with David letterman, citing his campaign suspension as the reason and indicating he's on his way to Washington, then Letterman catches him doing an interview with some broad on another show instead. It's required viewing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjkCrfylq-E Needless to say, Letterman wasn't exactly bouncing off the walls with glee. http://coloradoindependent.com/9206/letter...te-cancellation
  5. Because we see how crappy they're doing it and want to show how it can be improved. Oh zing! Dude... they even tried to make an American version of Red Dwarf. Take a wild stab at how successful it was. I don't know what that is. Sounds like a pretty lame show though. The original I mean. So, I wouldn't expect another version of the show to be any better than the lame sounding original. I'm going to come over there, tape your eyelids open, and tie you to a chair in front a TV where you'll watch all 52 episodes of Red Dwarf without pause. Only then will your soul be redeemed.
  6. It hasn't hit the polls yet obviously, but general reaction towards McCain's little debate suspension stunt is not good. Here's a summary: McCain says let's suspend presidential campaigns because we're needed in congress to fix Wall street: "Tomorrow morning, I will suspend my campaign and return to Washington." Congress tells them to go away: "It would not be helpful at this time to have them come back during these negotiations and risk injecting presidential politics into this process or distract important talks about the future of our nation's economy. If that changes, we will call upon them." The debate organisers say they were not informed of any changes to the debate: "The University of Mississippi is going forward with the preparation for the debate. We are ready to host the debate, and we expect the debate to occur as planned." Obama says the debates should go forward as planned: "This is exactly the time when the American people need to hear from the person who, in approximately 40 days, will be responsible for dealing with this mess." and "Presidents are going to have to deal with more than one thing at a time. It's not necessary for us to think that we can only do one thing and suspend everything else."

  8. I'm waiting for them to make a zombie version of EA Sports.
  9. It's hilarious for the first season or two I suppose. Gets old fast, though. And what's with Americans having to make their own version of anything British?
  10. That doesn't mean much. EULAs are often not legally enforceable.
  11. As I said over at Mistress' Lair, Heroes has evolved into a downright awful show in only 2 seasons of existence. Somebody call me when the hotness factor of the actors overcomes the stupidity factor of the show once more.
  12. I call bull****. Nice attempt at misinformation, though. I commend you.
  13. I know we might not seem to matter to some people. But we do. It's called word of mouth. It doesn't happen over night - but it spreads, slowly, like a cancer. EA does not want a cancer. I was neutral about spore to begin with. I might not have bought it, true. Now I will never buy it. How far are you willing to defend them, hmmm? Did you miss the bit about forum bans translating to being banned from a game they bought, or did you gloss over that deliberating?
  14. Stop covering these stories. You just make it worse.
  15. Hah! It mentions Fionna was an IRA operative and that's all you hear about it, if it really worries you.
  16. Yeah, I was contemplating making (another?) thread for Burn Notice considering the previous episode. It was bloody fantastic. I also liked the episode where he pretended to be a chemistry nerd with bad asthma. Looks like we'll, have to wait a few months for the second half of the season. Also, good to see Tricia Helfer (Carla) in something other than Battlestar: Galactics. Oh, and I was happy to see Michael Shanks in an earlier episode, too! I hope he comes back.
  17. Oh, you mean hungry hungry hippos?
  18. Don't let taks or Guard Dog hear you say that or you'll be labelled a 'dirty socialist'. #
  19. Yeah, I think we are clear: you love C++ so much that you think it is a good starting language regardless of (or because of) the information overload, steep learning curve, and unsafe typing. Well, I guess there's nothing wrong with holding those views if you're just a game designer, but I personally hope you stay away from being a CS instructor because such an elitist 'weeding out' approach does computer science and its students a disservice. http://mcsp.wartburg.edu/zelle/python/python-first.html
  20. I take it didn't occur to you that the voters who are racist predominantly preside in electorates typically held by Republicans? Hilarious. I know you'll never support things like social welfare and healthcare, so I'll skip on your little paranoid gem of "the Democrats will plunge America into abject socialism".
  21. Yeah, I like Python. It's a fairly commonly used languages and its reputation as a scripting languages is beginning to surpass even Perl as more programmers discover it. It's used in many computer games for scripting, but that's superfluous in terms of Python's utility. I'm fairly dubious of your claim that you don't need it (almost every programmer does something where it would be wiser to use a scripting language, game design aside). Anyway, we are talking of what constitutes a good starting language, not what is the gaming industry standard. Even then, I've never been one for the "it's the industry standard" argument - kills innovation. Would you have us all learning COBOL for scientific and business computing? Au contraire, the jump from nothing to C++ is a (significantly) larger learning curve than the jump from nothing to Python to C++. From a didactic perspective, this is a grave problem due to information overload. You understand, yes? I won't try and extol the virtues of Python to you but do note that you do not only expound C++ but simultaneously seek to deride other languages. This later part I take issue with. So you'd find it difficult to adapt to a semantic style that is in many ways identical, with the main deviation being extraneous elements are removed for clarity and ease of understanding? Python syntax is almost identical to pseudcode, which was designed for portability and ease of understanding. I'm fairly certain you understand pseudocode. Please stop back pedaling. Besides what you just said making C/C++ poor choices from a pedagogical perspective, you were initially trying to claim Python being unsafely typed and C/C++ were safely typed, as a reason for C being a better starting language than Python:
  22. I don't know, the spice smell isn't a good one; it's very off-putting. Like, back when I was tutoring in Canberra, every time one of my Indian students came in, his 'spice' odour was so powerful I kept getting distracted from my work. I kept trying to figure out how it was that such an odour consistently lingered with him over months without dispersing. I reasoned it had to be with him, because if it was in his books I wouldn't be able to smell it from a table across. It must be due to the epithelial cells picking up some substances more strongly than others. For us its something 'milky', for them it's likely something in their curries. Compounding this, their lactose intolerance means they don't have any 'milky' odour of their own to dilute it a bit, and likewise, we rarely eat curries, so the juxtaposition is all the greater. In conclusion, he smelt distracting.
