  1. Oh well done, bravo! Europe and Australia are screwed because about 2% of the population are Muslim and part of the Ottoman Empire committed barbaric acts hundreds of years ago! Where is that facepalm image when you need it.
  2. I'm not sure why I expected any other comment from a fearmongering bigot. I'm not sure why I expected any other comment from a person at the literal end of the world, practically divorced from the real problems of europe and the west You might be able to indulge in any sort of fantasy in your island retreat but the rest of us don't have that luxury. Oh, no, I hear that kind of pathetic bigotry here as well. OH NO THE MUSLIMS ARE COMING, THE MUSLIMS ARE COMING! They're not coming to you unless they swim real well. Enjoy your comfort while it lasts. You ignorant fool, Australia has a massive Middle Eastern refugee and skilled immigrant intake every year, and one of the primary election issues here is what to do about 'boat people' - typically Middle Eastern people who arrive here smuggled in on shoddy unsafe boats fleeing oppression (refugees) or seeking better economic conditions (illegal immigrants). Arabic is roughly the most commonly spoken foreign language in Australia, along with Greek, Italian and Cantonese. Australia's closest neighbour (and I mean close enough to swim to at points) is the largest Muslim country in the world (and I'll add one of the largest democracies). Australia is 1.7% Muslim Serbia is 3.2% UK is 2.7% Spain is 2.5% Italy is 1.5% Ireland is less than 0.5% Romania is 0.3% France and the Netherlands? About 6%. You know why? Because during the Cold War their governments promoted a massive Muslim immigrant influx to help with unskilled labour shortages at the time. They stuck around when the projects were completed, and because they were unskilled, poor, and often spoke little of the native language, civil unrest problems emerged. The governments had no foresight, and it had little to do with the specific ethnic groups used and everything to do with their socio-economic status. As I said, you are a bigoted fearmonger. There is no 'Muslim problem' in Europe to be worried about. Oh yes, the Christians never did anything so barbaric! (Hint: that was massive sarcasm) I imagine part of your hatred of Muslims probably stems from the fact the Kosovo is majority-Muslim.
  3. Thanks to both of you. Yes I meant GTX 285. One of the reasons I chose nVidia is because they have better Linux driver support than ATI. I will have to consider the ATI's I guess, though. I am definitely sticking with the AMD Phenom II (not sure which model - price difference seem negligible and I don't overlclock, but the 3.0 ghz model seems to use less power which could be tempting) I am willing to buy an SSD. I just didn't think that the HD would be as large a bottleneck as you suggest, Spider. I would be looking for a 128 or 256gb SSD. 80gb could work I guess. And yes, this is most definitely a gaming PC. I want to buy it to last 3 to 4 years for once, so I'm going high-end this time. For the case I guess I want a smaller form factor. To clarify: I will be dual-booting between Ubuntu Linux and XP. Linux for coding and some gaming (for example I buy all my indie games as Linux versions), XP for any gaming that doesn't work on Linux.

  5. I'm going with: AMD Phenom II 965 (about $250 AUD) - highest end AMD CPU, 3.4 Ghz quad core with 8mb cache total between lvl 2 and 3, the comparative Intel product is $750 plus I've always preferred AMD, especially given Intel's somewhat dubious business practices against competitors. nVidia GTX 985 (about $500 AUD) - second highest nVidia, $200 cheaper than highest end product AM3 Socket Gigabyte mother board with DDR3 ($100 to $200 I guess) - what to look for in a motherboard? A case CPU fan Power supply Hard drive (7200 RPM with 32mb cache preferably) - I don't care what the HD size is. Smaller is probably better. I use externals for anything important. HD will mostly contain game installs. Don't think you can really get smaller than 200gb or so these days anyway. RAM (3 or 4 GB max) Can anybody think of anything else I will need, as well as expand on specific products to buy for fan, PSU, RAM, etc? I'm looking do build this comp for under $1200 AUD - should be doable given the CPU and GPU I've chosen. I'll be ordering via this website I think, for reference: http://www.tigersdirect.com.au/
  6. Nokia and Intel just merged Maemo and Moblin. This comes a week after Nokia open-sourced Symbian. Interesting times. EDIT: Link: http://www.itworld.com/open-source/96887/h...moblin-my-maemo

  8. In India, Muslim women can choose not to wear either of the damn things. They are cultural things (mostly Arab), not religious.
  9. By about 2040, the US will be majority Hispanic. Which I guess is still European but it's not Anglo-Saxon!
  10. Complaining about it here will change a damn thing, because word of mouth is a very powerful force in marketing. Don't assume this thread on this forum is an isolated case. And a bunch of people who read about it on each forum are going to go warn their friends. Who'll probably further warn their friends, etc. It may not prevent everyone from buying a game, but if it puts enough of a dent in sales it could well make the stupid suits think twice, because there's nothing they like more than higher margins.
  11. So in other words, not very close.
  12. You forgot an asteriskskskss on the end. It makes you look like you're correcting a typo as is.
  13. A little better than what I remembered, but still losing 5 to 1 against the consoles. Ignorant statement. It's not losing 5 to 1 against any single console. That's what people talking about 'the consoles' fail to grasp: the PC is a platform. The Xbox is a platform. The console is NOT a platform. The breakdown of sales is roughly 6:3:2. For this game sales on the PC lag those on other platforms, but they are still high (more than high enough to justify porting - and on that note, it'd cost more to port it from Xbox to PS3 than Xbox to PC, assuming they didn't actually code it for PC first, which they often do).
  14. Actually, no. I felt it was stupid of you to be trying to blame anybody at all for the way they enjoy their gaming. Evidently you missed this.
  15. Would you stop being a tool and consider that this form of DRM is unique and more dangerous than any before it? YOU CAN'T PLAY YOUR SINGLEPLAYER GAME WITHOUT A STABLE INTERNET CONNECTION, PURKAKE. It's entirely worth raising awareness of this and discussing things like its potential to set a precedent. Don't post in the damn thread if you are sick of hearing about DRM.
  16. I suppose ignorance is mainly to blame, but the stupidity of that statement really irks me. By the nature of ADHD, games are more likely to suck you in and make you pay attention to detail than they are a normal person. The fact of the matter is, games these days are made for normal people, not nerds (or whatever else you want to call hardcore gamers). That's where the problem lies, and that's who you should be blaming, if you really must blame someone.
  17. The problem with countries like Iran, Pakistan, and North Korea owning nuclear weapons is that they would possibly be willing to sell them to terrorists (Iran and North Korea), or sloppy in their safeguards (all three), or states liable to collapse (mainly Pakistan, but all three) - meaning government leadership (who controls the bombs) could change hands very rapidly.
  18. lol. You sound kind of like an Evangelical Christian trying to convert someone by telling them they will burn in hell.
  19. I want the option to date Kristin Kreuk.
  20. Damn, that sucks. Summer isn't for almost another year where I live!
  21. There is never grounds for piracy. People deserve to sail the high seas unmolested! Ignoring the ethical issues involved here, one can easily surmise that a DRM measure like this will, statistically, increase illegal download rates and lower revenue, in a similar manner to the way censorship of games in Australia (e.g. L4D2) was confirmed to have increased illegal download rates and lowered revenue relative to the other Western markets of the world (Australians deciding to torrent to get an uncensored version instead of pay for a compromised one). It's a blindingly stupid move.
  22. Stack Overflow.
  23. And in the process you lose any progress you made in your game. http://games.slashdot.org/story/10/02/18/0...rmed?art_pos=17 Games not to buy include: Assassin's Creed 2 and Settlers VII
