Not really, especially not really for Castol. In the ending slides they set a research outpost there to study it. But it is insignificant compared to their research at Ukaizo - animancy gets a giant kickstart with VTC and knowledge gained rivals Engwithans themselves. And while for Alvari it is true that VTC is there to get all there is to get in Deadfire and leave, for Castol it's different - VTC is there to stay with permanent settlements and research institutions. When I got there I wasn't really sure about that animancy kickstart part. The engwithan was a civilization beyond measure and they ended up producing the current flawed "gods"... are you sure the current empires of Eora are ready to deal with something like that? I for one wouldn't want to see that power in the hands of anyone ( even tho Castol isn't that bad compared to the others). Totally valid, some people are too afraid of the potential dangers. But you can't stop progress, even the gods seem to push kith towards it by breaking the Wheel. And Vailians are the most progressive on that part, while not being shy of inviting bright minds from all over the world. So, it's better be them than some fumbling Huana. And I doubt anybody will want to create gods again with previous ones still present as an example.

Well, devs sure did it for some people, though unintentionally. He's bugged and his conflicting dispositions will have to be changed somehow, either by removal or swap for some other disposition. But that doesn't help with the first impression at all, sizable part of the audience doesn't replay games.

Alright, Xoti may not be as totally bugged as I thought at first after watching her dialogues on YouTube. It just takes quite a while for all the random banter to roll through to get her dialogue with the Watcher about what to do with Eder. It also concerns all the other companions as well, as they all have these dialogues - first they randomly have banter with each other and then after most of it rolls out they have a dialogue that includes the Watcher. It can be a hate dialogue like in case of Xoti or Pallegina, or reconciliation dialogue like Pallegina and Tekehu, romance dialogue like Xoti and Maia, or friendly dialogue like Xoti or Serafen. Mind that the banter itself is pretty buggy as it doesn't seem to take into account completed companions quests. For example, Xoti is still spouting apocalyptic drivel she sees in her dreams even if you help her empty her lantern. Also some ending slides (Xoti & Eder) don't seem to take into account those inter-companion dialogues but rather relationship values between companions. And those values are definitely looking buggy, just like for the Watcher - some raising to 2 way too fast, some sitting at 0 for the whole game even if two companions are always in the party. So to make the banter roll faster just travel back and forth between areas in Neketaka, some of them are maybe main quest gated until later. Personally, I hate random banters, but at least it's not as bad as in DA:I - it took ages for all the banter between companions to occur there. And by not listening to it all you could miss extra dialogues with companions or whole romance thing between Bull and Dorian, just like here in POE2 between Xoti and Maia

Well...I didn't have the insight to check, but there is that one chick in Dunnage who is implied to just be hiring you to assassinate former pirates for vengeance. I'll definitely have to come back to that in another playthrough with a high-insight character. They got her sister killed and they were pirates who got rich plundering, so basically, criminals.

Favourite side quests?
Aramintai replied to Yenkaz's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
This one and Arkemyr's Manor. They reminded me of Raedric's Hold - different ways to enter, different ways to reach the goal. I like quests like that where there are different options in how to approach them. -
The former are military/navy and the latter are innocent civilians? There are no bounties to murder civilian targets, or political figures. Except queen Onekaza That's not a bounty per se, but the last faction quest. Faction quest lines are ****ty like that - somebody will always die in them, no parley. Basically, at that point you're helping one faction to raise above all others and make it a supreme power who's word is law. So later nobody will be able to put you on trial for this. History is written by the winners.

I think the problem with bounties in Deadfire is that they are sanctioned by different factions, there's not one power who's word is law above all else. Sure, the Huana royalty seem like the official power of Deadfire, but actually they only represent the biggest tribe that controls Neketaka and some nearby islands maybe. They themselves are still struggling to unite other tribes and islands under them. Then there are two trading companies who forcefully ingratiated themselves as official powers of Deadfire too, having several outposts on different islands and superior fleet to back their claims as official powers. And lastly, there are pirates, who have their own territory too and consider all other factions ships as target practice for their bounty hunters. So, since there's no supreme law on Deadfire any bounty is fair game, because they're all official looking from employer faction point of view.

She didn't know they were assassinations requests until after the fact. She didn't know what was in her missive until she opened it after she left the party and never opened the other missives. How could she tell you beforehand? Thinking the other two missives were assassinations after the fact is speculation from the Watcher and her too. She's shifty because the missives are part of her spy work and she hates being a spy. Really, what kind of spy goes everywhere telling everyone they are a spy? Please Don't be so naive. But whatever, personally, I wouldn't have minded her being a spy so much if she did just that, quietly spying on other factions, gathering info. But no, she had to drag the Watcher into this as well, fully expecting him/her to help even though as you say she's not a friend or comrade. I guess her joining the party somehow automatically supposes the Watcher supports her faction, even if that is not true. Rauatai this, Rauatai that. Everything for Rauatai - lands, resources, assimilated natives...Just as bad as the other factions, or even worse. Personally, I'd choose them only if my protag was from Rauatai - for Motherland! and all that crap...

Aside from him being popular, I think they put Aloth in the sequel not because of anything related to the main plot, but to give him closure with the Leaden Key. It was left hanging in the open in his POE1 ending. In the sequel you can see him doubting himself and wavering about what course to take with the Leaden Key and you can help him finally decide. I think it's fine, not every companion should obligatory be tied to the main plot.
