  1. So, my better half got me another gig of ram (1 DIMM). My already existing gig was in two DIMM's of 512MB. You know how a mobo has four slots, two blocks of two? Well, each block had one DIMM of 512MB and I was going to move the two 512MB DIMM's to one "block" and put the 1G DIMM in the other block leaving one slot open but alas, my viedo card was in the way of the clip and I was lazy so I just put the 1G DIMM into the spare bottom slot. My question is, does it make a difference? Would the RAM perform better if I put both 512MB DIMM's in the first block and the 1G DIMM in the second or doesnt it matter?
  2. Well, I guess Im the latest casualty of Lady in the Water. Even though the missus fell asleep halfway I soldiered on to the end. I hate myself on the inside for that.
  3. I cant wait for the day my cell phone sues me for damages because I dropped it. What if my phone becomes evil and greedy? Me: "Whoops" *drops Phone* My phone: "Oooow, whiplash!" *ejects some keys for added effect* Me: "OMG, are you alright?" My phone: "You idiot, wtf is the matter with you! Im sueing!" Judge: "Mr. Gfted1, please stand for your verdict." "You have been found guilty of abuse of your phone and must pay it restitution for the repair of its keys. Furthermore you are required to pay for a nice home for this phone where it will rest and rehabilitate." My phone: "Judge! Id also like a restraining order to keep this monster at least 200ft away at all times." Judge: "Motion granted."
  4. Hmm, so why not the same rights for all living things?
  5. Linky Interesting concept, non-living entities being given the same rights as living organisms. Does an sufficiently advanced AI equal "living"? Does "decision making" equal "living"? Why wouldnt animals be given these same rights, because they cannot speak in a language we understand? Your thoughts?
  6. Whats the recoil like? Kicks like a mule?
  7. Yeah, I noticed the box of ammo while I was admiring your tile floor but couldnt read it. You take it out and let 'er rip yet?
  8. What caliber round does that use?
  9. My current work desktop is one I totally stole from one of you last time we had this thread. Its called "Fallen Angel" iirc and shows a cybernetic angel being comforted be a "normal" angel. Would post the pic if I knew how.
  10. IMO, morality exists right up until push comes to shove. Then, quite naturally, survival takes over and people will do whatever it takes to ensure their own.
  11. Wow, Im shocked! I would have easily belived that those percentages could be reversed (76% recidivism). Quick question about Table 2 though, I think Im misreading it. The top category "All sexual offenders" states 24% recidivism at 15 years. Five categories down we have "Offenders with previous sexual convictions..." which shows 37% recidivism at 15 years. Where am I going wrong here?
  12. This coupled with the absurdity of the picture in the subsequent post gave me a hard laugh this morning. The thigh-high leather boots, ouch.
  13. I get the feeling you are more interested in arguing then discussing but Ill bite. Are you more convinced that this is the case? Before you just said you thought it was (which was kind of funny, given the lengthy discourse about wanting proof and citations). What would you like me to provide you proof of, the existance of Methadone clinics or the fact that drug related crimes still exist? Oookaay, you would link a link to a fictional law suit? Fictional, you know, because this service does not exist in the United States so therefore hasent happened yet. Well seeing as there are no clinics to go get free booze, supplied by the govornment, I cannot answer your "what if".
  14. My estimates were calculated purely on the numbers provided in the article Walshingham linked us to about the ex-hooker/junkie who stated approximately $60.00/fix was needed for the habit.
  15. Well, Im sorry to see that you are "narked" but if you expect me to take your "facts" at your word without you providing any sources then most likely any serious discussion you and I have will end in you becoming narked. If you come in and throw random numbers around (that sound absurd to me), I will question you on it. It doesnt mean I dont "get you". Ive read and understood your point, I simply disagree. While that may be true, its beyond the scope of our discussion. You say free drugs is the cure to: 80% of prison overpopulation, organized crime, prostitution, bad breath, etc... Fine. I say free drugs are already readily available and yet these conditionas still exist. What gives? Austin Powers: International Man Of Mysters. Or it could have been Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. I cant remember which. Your not advocating that the junkie hang out on the property until they sober up are you? Now you will need rooms for them, and a nurse/doctor to make sure they dont drown in their own vomit. Oh, and dont forget the niceties such as bathrooms and the people to keep all this all running. Better be careful or your sub $60 heroin habit is going to quickly spiral out of control.
  16. Nice sidestep. I think you know I not talking about the perp, but the victims. Its already on the books that a victim or their family may sue an establisment or private citizen because they "over served" a person that later commited a vehicular crime due to intoxication. Now, lets take it a step futher. Little Johnny's family is righfully enraged that some fool who just got high at The Govornment Smack Institute ran over little Johnny while he was out playing with little Sally. They, using the tools already at their disposal, sue the govornment for 1 BILLION DOLLARS. Now multiply this by the number of times it happens. I think we all see where this is going.
  17. Who says it hasn't? Well, obviously it hasnt since we're so vigorously discussing what a pancea "free drugs" would be.
  18. Err, we're talking about the prospect of providing these drugs to drug addicts, through government channels. Just now you decide to bring this up? Besides, you make it sound like heroin would become available at your local drugstore. I dunno, I just thought of it. What does the timing of the question have to do with anything? Another point I brought up earlier in the thread got lost in the discussion. I think methodone clinics are available in every major city that, afaik, give the stuff away. Why hasnt this "taken a bite out of crime"?
  19. I wonder how the U.S. govornment would deal with the liability of becoming a drug dealer. I can see lawsuit's out the wazoo. Here its currently possible for a bar (or private citizen) to be sued, and found liable, for "over serving" a patron who leaves drunk and wraps his car around a tree. What happens when Junkie McSmack wrecks into a bus full of handicapped? Thats right, "Its not my fault! The govornment gave me the heroin which caused me to crash my car!"
  20. As I didnt see this in the article, I can only guess your pulling it out of thin air. Unless the UK police force is so unbelievably inept as to cost themselves tens of thousands of pounds in the process of typing a single report, there is no way this can be true. Why would heroin cost tens of thousands of pounds to make? Ingredients? Delivery system? Infrastructure? I dont know how much the manufacture of heroin would cost the govornment, I was basing that cost on $60.00/day x 1 year (explained in slightly more detail above).
  21. If this was directed at me, I dont think I understand you meta. Im sure all cops worldwide have mountains of paperwork to write-up each day that detail the crimes deal with but how does that tie into Walshingham's post? Using his article as a basis, lets assume the average junkie spends $60 per fix. Lets also assume they only need one fix a day. That comes to $21,900.00/year. I find it nigh impossible that arresting one person one time and not even sending them to court (penalty phase) cost the city where the offence took place more then $22k. While I dont know this for a fact nor do I have any references to link to I would also say the numbers used above are extremely conservative and the average junkie spends far in excess of $60.00/day.

  23. Neat trailer, like the one for War Front that plays after it too. The age verification section cracks me up, Im sure THAT will stop those persky minors from seeing adult material, lol.
  24. Im not sure if this is Urban Legend or not but Ive heard that during D-Day there were several Tiger divisions nearby that werent brought to bear due to the fact they only took orders diretly from Hitler, who was napping, and nobody wanted to wake him. You know anything about that one way or the other?
  25. Being through boot camp and some military training they pretty much try to erase individuality and basically do a form of brainwashing that you would comply to every order given. Yet have laws that make the soldier accountable for his actions and not the commander who dictates his actions. *sigh* One time you are going to be right about something and Im going to fall out of my chair. While Im sure you feel you know all there is to know about the military what with the 6-8 weeks you invested before getting canned, my 7.5 years of active duty thouroughly disproves your "facts". 1) Blind obedience is only taught in bootcamp. This is, as you surmised, used to break down the individuals and form them into a team mentality. This is used for unit cohesion and training the person to function under stress. Once you reach your duty station, you are expected to follow all "lawful" orders, but not all order period (below). 2) Military personel are not required to follow "unlawful" orders. Meaning, if your ordered to run in and gun down the monastary full of retarded nuns, you do not have to follow it and you will suffer no reprucussion. While you may be bitter for being found unfit for duty but you dont have to make up BS and pass it off as fact.
