Scaling.
Good question. I've not played Gothic. But I have played the odd MMPORG. And the further away you go from a population centre the tougher things get. There are also areas you just dont go at level 1. Couldnt see anyone owning the planes with a rusty dagger for instance. But at the same time you keep the sense of accomplishment since your levels allow you to go places you couldnt go before. Although in many respects it's much like Oblivion where you get weaker in relation to the monsters as you level. And your equipment defines you more than your skills.

Scaling.
As you level , the goblin levels with you. In plot instances you have different creatures. But they level too so you not only end up with a tougher creature but a tougher boosted creature.

Fantasy Yes its the fantasy version of KOTOR. It even has it's very own Bastila.

Oblivion First Impressions
Wouldnt suprise me I had a nightmare in that place because of the damage shields on a certain creature (and there were two of them). Oblivion is all about you "bling" Once I came across the magic longsword which did 19 damage it got remarkably easy. I tend to use a glass mace and keep the sword just for times when I'm outnumbered. Theres just something not quite right when your equipment defines you to that extent.

Scaling.
Maybe, but thats not the point of the thread. It's what can be learned from Oblivion so you dont repeat the same mistakes. As for correcting it. Well it looks like quite a lot of people actually like the scaling as it is.

It's the games that will make the real impact. If you have to fork over

Oblivion First Impressions
Someone over on the TES boards said they finished the plot at level 1 with a rusty dagger.

An unliving entity would be fine too
Only with regards to any possible side effects. It's not like parents would engineer their children in negative ways.

Did you read about the deal they did with Sega ?

Scaling.
I know it's flavour of the month over at TES . But what about the implications for other RPGS ? Like PNJ and PG for example. Good thing about scaling. The game has stayed challenging. Bad thing, if you happened to make a non combat oriented character your in trouble. Since scaling is generally about combat , it should perhaps be based on your combat related skills alone and not just on a level number ? Bad things about scaling. To long finding crap (although given the speed of level up in Oblivion it could have been worse). But do you really want to spend 10 levels finding rusty and useless items with no chance of a "good find" because of scaling? On the other end of the scale. It rains powerful items so they completely lose their specialness. Silly instances in Oblivion for example where bandits wearing gear costing 1000's of GP are demanding 100 gp off you. Somewhere between those two extremes there must be some sort of happy middle ground where you get enough useful stuff to keep you going, with the chance of a nice suprise. But without getting to the point where you just at finding another uber death sword.

Why not it's cheap now and you get all the expansions thrown in as well.

The real question is how much will it cost.

Oblivion First Impressions
Yep, trying to take that lot with an original 3 damage steel short sword. Not to be recomended.

I've never been caught " Perhaps, but the games leveling scale scheme is seriously whacky.

I expect you cap when you can no longer spend 10 points in primary skills. So in theory you get more levels with low starting skills rather than high ones. Although I havnt found much use for leveling. I did come across one quest with a minimum level of 8. I stopped leveling at 14 , my skills keep going up but I just avoid beds. I bet there will be one of those mandatory beds along the way though.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms game?
Relatively untouched ? 6 Dynasty Warriors (plus handheld versions). Dynasty Warriors Tactis (2 of those) And I think it's 8 of the "wargames" Romance of the Three kingdoms. MegaMan is the only one I can think of with more games based on it.

Stark Reality may be the funniest spell ever. It has a really funny quest to go along with it as well. Funny thing as I was running naked for my life I came across another shrine :D <it will all make sense if you find the spell>

X-2 dosnt make much sense unless you play it completely linear and also uncover the cave. Has my favourite FMV sequence too. Gameplay wise I like it more than X but X as a story wins hands down.

Oblivion
CE cost the same as online as the regular one did from the store. When I get around to it I have to return the original for a refund. I dont need two copies of Oblivion. I'm trying to come up with some way to display the coin. It's that good.

Wasnt what I was getting at. I was just pointing out that the quest was solved before it even started.

360 controller problem.
Boots up ok. It's like it's periodically losing the signal or something but the game still responds.

360 controller problem.
What is happening is the player select light is spinning around. This only started to occur since I brought the thing home. It was working fine over my folks house. I'm not sure if it's the battery or if it's conflicting with some other wireless device. Anyone heard anything about this ?
