  1. Yeah well I just priced XB1 controllers ... $60 gets you a single unit, no cable, regular batteries, what. 75 frickin' dollars gets you the Play and Charge version with rechargeable batteries and a USB cable--the only option for PC. That is kinda irritating. Presumably a generic microUSB would work with the former, but the price still comes out sixes ... unless the cable that came with my Dualshock 4 is compatible ... but then I'd need to keep replacing batteries. The only deal I see is Amazon, $60.61 for the P&C model.

  2.

I went out to a place called Old Major the other night and as you can probably guess by the name they specialize in pork

I had the scallops and cavatelli and the "nose to tail" which is pretty much a big sampler plate. Very good, 2 of 2, will eat again

That menu looks amazing, I also would have ordered "nose to tail". I have never had pigs ears before, how were they?

Heh, that reminds me how much my dog used to luuuuuuuvvv munching on dried pig ears. Awww ...

I wonder, though, why is reading a book on a e-book reader changes the way you perceive it, compared to reading it in a normal paper book?

Some books I've already read in "normal" and on a e-book reader, but I can't say I felt any different.

The theory I saw after the study came out had to do with the brain making more memory connections because more senses are engaged reading a book, turning pages, smelling paper & print, etc than an ereader which does some, but not all, of that.

Yes, not to mention a physical cue, under thumb, indicating how much content remains.

PC drivers for the Xbox One controller came out today. Except you have to use a micro-USB cable, so no wireless play.

  4. Cool, yeah, I liked his bit about how when a point-of-view character drives the plot in a story, it can be subjectively worse than when the central character is more reactionary.

Actually I sorta remembered it wrong, it was this ...

He is a plot driving character, and very rarely do plot driving characters work as viewpoint characters.

It's why Frodo is the main character of Lord of the Rings instead of Aragorn - the viewpoint character is the character who the plot happens to, not who drives the plot. It's why everything Indiana Jones does in Raiders of the Lost Ark is pointless and all he does is react to what other people are doing. It's why the first Matrix movie works when Neo is still the guy stuff happens to, and the Matrix sequels don't work because Neo is the Superman who makes stuff happen.
  5. Should never call the police unless it's life or death.

Seems like the Queen's English regards entities as plural, but American business-es are literally recognized as one person. I think even Aussies do it, too, the first way.

  6. Watch the Cosmos TV series and you'll change your mind there. Plus, next season, when crack shot Hayley Atwell shows up as Agent Carter, it's gonna be ultra-critical TV. Female lead, man, basically a superhero character. Can't wait.

  7. Whew, loving these images of the new S-frame InWin case today. Open-air, yet not, black with Iron Man-red accents. Only 500 will be made, $799.  >_<

what thin veiled hypocrisy it would be to ignore the bad while lauding the good.

No way, that practice is basic human survival, sometimes the only way to get through the day. I pretty much have to ignore my hairline these days, or else I'll sink to the floor whimpering in remorse, but at least I enjoy a slim waist and strong hands.

Or maybe I'm not understanding the analogy.

  9. Huh, for a budget build, that X4 and a 270X could push a 1080p single panel nicely. I just did a perusal for parts to go with it, but less than $600 is a challenge. At least when adding SSD for OS, and memory, god, memory is twice what I paid at the end of 2012. New consoles really are a bargain.

  10. That Major Nelson guy said Xbox One controllers for PC are inbound. How soon "very soon" is in corporate speak is anyone's guess, but six months late is better than never. I wouldn't mind upgrading (if that will be the case) the wired 360 model I have now, with presumably a wireless XB1 unit.

  11. We talked about this last year at this time, State Fair time. Deep-fried candy bars, deep-fried PB&J, basically everything semi-edible has been and will be fried deeply.

Am slightly miffed Burger King discontinued the Angry Whopper. Had to settle for a "BBQ" version today instead. The former was outstanding ... jalapenos, onion rings, bacon, pepper jack, bbq sauce ...

provided you don't mind a lot of people not wearing not a lot of things they shouldn't never not wear.

This is gonna take a minute to decipher. With a white-russian low-ball dictionary, I believe I will succeed.

I'm pleased to hear about TNG in the house--hopefully some Worf stories you guys watched. His character arc between the Federation and the Empire is my fave.

  13. I like a grammatical challenge. Among the Sleep ... among the sleep ... among ... the sleep ... implying plurality to something accomplished strictly on a singular basis. Er, no, that's stupid, I got nothing. Anyway, toddlers scare me--sleep-walking nightmarish toddlers would render me catatonic. Completely unconscious. Maybe even, among the sleeping.

In other news, Playstation at E3 this year is gonna be humdinger. As many as six major announcements being teased so far.
