Elf Portrait
Marceror replied to gamerdude130's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
With respect to EE, I just have to point out that Dorn Il-Khan's portrait is amazing. Trash the others if you will, but Dorn's is about as close to perfect as they come. I'm also a fan of Hexxat's portrait, even though that one is rather controversial. -

Did you just create a new acronym? I broke out my deep pondering skilz for atleast 25 seconds trying to decipher DGL before I got it. I may have at that! -
Free gum for Backers?

That's just vile. Delete your post before Feargus decides it's a good idea. Someone would sue, and then Obsidian wouldn't be able to develop a sequel. You wouldn't want that to happen would you? It's not too late to edit your post. Hurry. You're onto my dastardly plan to take down OE! Oh noes!! Discovered! -
Free gum for Backers?

Maybe they could hide the live beetle INSIDE the gum! -
I would assume at least until it's morning in the USA, west coast. You figure, the guy who's responsible for pushing this out will likely end up needing to come in late to the office tomorrow, due to not having any hot water to shower with. And once he finally does get in, he's going to need a few cups of coffee to his brain working properly. Then a buddy in the office is going to want to show him some of the ideas he had for the game over the weekend. That will take nearly and hour. Then it's going to be lunch time. Most likely that will be a long one, so 90 minutes later the big push will start. That will probably get interrupted several times, so the intended morning push turns into, "by the time I leave the office today." So I'm guessing sometime between 6 - 7PM Pacific time!

Our House vs. our Stronghold

Didn't they have something like that in Mass Effect? At any rate, a trophy room, whether in the house or the main keep structure itself would be pretty cool. -

I'm sure I'll play as the DGL at some point. Their appearance is bizarre, but I'm not turned off by it. I think I prefer the male DGL, however. If I'm playing a class that can benefit from their bonuses, sure, I'll use this race. Now, if I was going to date one of these guys, that would be a different story most likely! Not sure I'd be up for that! -

Ben N Jerry's? A quart of that has the making of a good time, albeit with a healthy slice of guilt the following morning. -
Free gum for Backers?
Marceror replied to wolfdyne's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yeah, Obsidian should totally go out and buy gum for $70,000 people and ship it to them. That would be an awesome use of backer donations! -
Occasionally when I hit "submit" on a post, I notice that while typing quickly I had written "the" instead of "they", or some other similar mistake. I immediately hit edit and correct the mistake. On basically every other forum I've ever used I get at least some sort of "grace period" where my post isn't marked as having been edited. But on these forums there appears to be no such grace period. I'm curious as to why. It seems a tad onerous to mark a post as having been edited if a quick touch up occurs within 30 - 60 seconds of the post being submitted. It's a minor annoyance, sure, but I'm wondering if there's any chance we can get that changed. EDIT: 20 seconds later, just to demonstrate

Free gum for Backers?

Wouldn't it be easier just to run down to your local supermarket or liquor store and pickup a pack of gum yourself? -

Our House vs. our Stronghold
Marceror replied to Marceror's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
A stronghold doesn't necessarily need a "house" per say. A secure quarters in the heart of the stronghold itself would work well too. But I'm okay with a house. Whatever or wherever it is, we get to upgrade it and presumably get some benefits from that. -
My point is more that the uninformed player/streamer will get a negative impression of the beta from it. We are aware of the bug, and we know it has already been fixed and the fix is coming, but even though the beta is meant for bug testing, first impressions are lasting. I get it from that perspective. My response was written purely from a me, myself and I point of view. Even if there was auto attack, until I get comfortable with the game I'm likely to direct most of the action myself anyway. Especially because I don't have any intention of playing on easy like Adam Brennecke. I will want to make sure my party is fighting as a coordinated unit, rather than attacking whichever enemy happens to be is closest proximity.
-
Not for me. If my party isn't attacking, I will simply order them to attack. It's called controlling your party. Auto attack is a convenience, but it's not essential to get started with the beta demo IMHO. It will be a big deal for some, I'm sure though.

(semi-spoilerish) I notice from the gameplay videos that you start with a party of 5, but the max party can have 6. So I guess the second question is what class do you plan to create at the adventurers hall to fill that final slot. I'm thinking about starting with a chanter and creating a paladin. That way I'll have at least a couple of front liners in the party.

I'm sure that I will need to get used to a lot of things being different. Druid's have always been shapeshifters, but have also always had the most powerful animal companions. Rangers traditionally have animal companions also, but typically they get them at higher levels than druids do, and they are less powerful. Guess I need to go into this with an open mind.

Serve no purpose? Serve no purpose?!? Oh, my good man. How misled thou art. Few things in life are more sacred than 30 minutes spent in the lavatory reading through a 100+ page manual of your most recently purchased game. Just because the opportunity to do this is fading like a stinky toilet in the wind, is it no indication that the activity is any less rewarding or wonderful than it ever was. It's much like the drive in theatre or the vinyl record. Some great things just have a way of fading away over time. 'Tis sad indeed. Not at all. The proud tradition of reading while dropping a deuce is still with us. The difference being the book/manual has been replaced with a tablet/e-reader. In other words, I'm fine with a PDF manual. The important thing is content, not the format it comes in. I guess I'm just a traditionalist at heart. There's something irreplaceable about those thin sheets of dead tree in your hand. Flipping the pages the way god intended. This doesn't mean I'm above bringing in phone, tablet or laptop, and I do so regularly (sometimes more than one at a time). But there is something on a spiritual level that is lost in that translation, at least as far as I'm concerned.

Based on the amount of entitlement people throw around here re: what info OE does share with us, I can't blame them in the slightest for not being more forthcoming. People would hear "10am" and then throw tantrums at 9:58 or complain about how 10am doesn't work for them or some such nonsense. No doubt. But people are going to throw tantrums anyways, since that's just the nature of "the mob", so there's no winning this one really. But yeah, if I were OE I would approach sharing anything like this with fear and trembling.

Keep in mind I totally made that quote up. It's what Josh, or Brandon or whomever "could" have said to us. But to my knowledge they have said nothing more than the date thus far.
