  1. Broken Age has the great story and memorable characters, for certain, but the puzzles are (mostly) pretty straightforward, particularly for the veteran adventure gamer. Definitely not bad mouthing it and I'm planning on playing it again soon. Urg, well I'll have to give it a shot soon. Bad puzzles can turn an adventure game into an interactive movie. I'm looking at you, Dreamfall. hey! interactive movies aren't a bad thing… though if that was not it's intent then i guess it's a bad thing… but it's all about the intent of the creator and how well the story is told.
  2. Concentration is similar to Concentration in 3E/3.5 (somewhat similar to Poise in Dark Souls) but it is for everyone, not just spellcasters. Concentration prevents you from playing hit reactions when you take damage. If you cannot maintain Concentration, you will play a hit reaction and your attack/reload/spell is interrupted. We're still defining the system (in fact, I was messing around with the formulae before I sat down), but that's the general idea. In the new scheme, Might affects damage/healing whether it's a single application or over time. Penetration is something we may or may not use in conjunction with an inherent Penetration value on weapons and other attacks that cause damage. I'm leaning toward "not" right now. may i ask, can you make a auto level thing? you know, a system that automatically assigns stat points to base stats based on your class? i ask this because in MMORPG's i always manage to find a way to screw myself over by not properly allocating my stats in the proper places at the proper time to get the most out of the class that i am playing, this got so bad that i stopped play WRPG's altogether. think sort of like JRPG's, like Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest (Dragon Warriors) i am not saying that people shouldn't be allowed to choose their own stat builds, but give the option for the computer to do it for the player who really doesn't understand a thing about stats, and doesn't want to pull a bunch of wiki's trying to learn all of the nuances for each class in order to do well in the game. i don't know if i am saying this right, and i know a lot of WRPG purists are going to get angry and the idea of this, but i really want to enjoy the game, and i won't be able to if i am constantly worrying if i allocated my points properly. skill points i don't need any help with, as i generally tend to know what i want in terms of skills.
  3. i can't wait to see this film, although the plot is a little creepy... though the CGI used in his films (CG of which he pioneered with 5 centimeters per-second) it has to do with how the lighting interacts with the 2D animation (the 2D is also animation is made on the computer i believe)
  4. while i refuse to watch 5-centimeters per second because it's an OVA, but i have seen the films made by the writer director of that OVA. the most emotional anime i have ever seen is Clannad, i have never cried more while watching an anime than what i had with that show. the only other show/film that has done that to me was Air the movie. though the show had better animation oddly enough.
  5. Dude whatever you are smoking I want some, it sounds great i think it was called... purple haze? i honestly can't remember. i just have this strange craving for chocolate chip ice-cream and hotdogs...
  6. i died today i now haunt my computer, it's not all bad though, i can still access the internet and play some games (as i am in a pretty crappy MacBookPro) i wish i could have haunted a high end gaming rig, at least then i could play skyrim, playing games while you are haunting a computer is kinda trippy because i can experience the game like interact and feel everything, well to an extent i can only interact with objects that are programmed to be intractable, needless to say why i would want to inhabit a high end PC to play skyrim. god i'm bored.
  7. Walter literally was central to pretty much all of the major threads in the show including a lot of the human storylines like his relationship with his son. Fringe arguably was his story, not to detract from the other characters or actors though who were all wonderful. yeah, the story arcs where he is trying to repair the relationship with his son, and him trying to get over the pain and guilt for stealing peter and destroying the fabric of two dimensions. the actor is very expressionate in showing this pain, especially in the eyes.
  8. as the release date for Tales of Xillia draws closer, is there anyone here looking forward to this game besides me. JRPG haters please don't post if you don't have anything truly constructive.
  9. if you give it a chance and watch all of season one, you might like it, and the show has been completed (thankfully it wasn't canceled with season 3) four twenty-three episode seasons is more than enough content to finish the story. hell most anime don't get past twelve/thirteen episodes these days.
  10. yeah, the actor who plays as walter is fantastic. the subtle emotions he expresses, like when he is in emotional pain his expression looks like he really in pain. oh did you notice that the actor who plays as walter, played in Lord of the Rings as Denethor II the Steward of Gondor.
  11. I recently asked on the Project Eternity Kick Starters page at the possibility of a Pen and Paper RPG inspired by and set in the world of Project Eternity. what inspired me to ask is two fold, 1) i was watching a show on a youtube channel called Counter Monkey, which sparked my interest in the world of Pen and Paper RPG's. 2) Sine the guys at Obsidian are huge fans of Pen and Paper RPG's as well as CRPG's and WRPG's i thought there was a possibility of this happening. This is the response i received Hello Keichi, Thank you for your interest in Project Eternity. At the moment, we are unable to comment on your question but it is entirely possible. Thank you for your support, Maria What do you think? are you as excited for the possibility as i am?
  12. i recently started watching a show called Fringe, and so far i am blown away by it. i am in the middle of season four, and it isn't as interesting season one, but that is because the secret was still in the "Box" as JJ Abrams put it. anyways i wanted to hear the communities thoughts on the show.
  13. the more i hear about this game, the more i want it. i think i may play either a Cleric or a Paladin, i prefer being a support player.
  14. So far I have really been into the Tales franchise, because they have been consistently great games. Lunar Silver Star Harmony is great (too bad they got rid of the "over world" in the remake) Popolo Crois is pretty good, it kinda plays like Chrono Trigger and a tactics game. xenoblade is alright for what it is, the same goes for xenosaga. FFIX has hit a soft spot for me as well, it's probably the most Final Fantasy-esque game a Final Fantasy game can get. Star Ocean is ok... it always feels like it's trying too hard to be like Tales. the first and second games especially taking A LOT of cues from Tales of Phantasia, of which I feel took a lot of story cues from Chrono Trigger. The Yakuza games are pretty different by combining the brawler type gameplay from the likes of Streets of Rage, some RPG elements, all set in the red light district of Tokyo. If you like Sleeping Dogs, Shenmue, or Metal Gear Solid (you will know what I mean should you decide to play the game) I think you may have a soft spot for Yakuza. I think Eternal Sonata is a solid JRPG, it can feel more like a history lesson at times because in between each game chapter you get a history lesson on the life of Fredric Chopin, who served as inspiration for the game.
  15. for me romance is the point i read stories and play games, of a game doesn't have a romance subplot that can't be explored even if it is optional then i have no interest. the thing about the romance is that i want to care about what is going to happen and i want to make decisions based around protecting the love interest here and there, having kids etc. as long as it is well written it's fine, and as long as it is in the game.
  16. how about calling the game "The Skyrim of Morrow Winds Oblivion"? on a serious note, how about "Eternal Souls"
  17. You don't want your attributes to affect your statistics, (which, in this context, I assume is meant to mean like skill bonuses, damage bonuses, etc.)? Then, what, exactly, are your attributes supposed to do? And regarding skills and debuffs...um...yes, well, I certainly hope you enjoy the game, too. you know how some cRPG's when you level up you are given a certain number of points so you can build your character, and that is the only way for your character to get stronger... i don't mind those points for like a skill tree, just not for "building" my character.... i don't know if i'm communicating it right...how about this you get 5 skill point or attribute points (some games call it differently) and when you level up you don't stronger in anyway until you use these points, i hate that kind of system because i have a hard time trying to figure out how i should build my character that i end up simply putting said point into str. def. and health. on EVERY character i play as regardless of class (except mage or mage like classes i'm not THAT dense)
  18. Well, you're more than welcome to your preferences. I'm not trying to bash them or anything. I was just trying to get at the fact that the core of the design of this game might be drastically, fundamentally different than what you're looking for. I mean, JRPGs aren't typically built around loads of customization. The developers of those games typically do all the skill/stat/class/personality specifics for you, and you sort of linearly progress with everything from there and enjoy the ride. And I get that. I enjoy them as well. I just don't know if it's a very good idea to expect a cRPG to be that similar to a JRPG, with the exception of mathematical-mechanic similarities like HP and damage and levels, etc. Also, I was just trying to point out that hoping something isn't in the game simply because you don't like it suggests a conflict of interest and choice. I mean, it would be mildly paradoxical for me to say I love FPSes, but I hope this new one doesn't have headshots in it. That's sort of core to the damage system in almost every FPS known to man. Damage/armor types have been around quite a while, as well, even if they don't show up in every RPG (RPGs have a much more vast amount of factors for variety to affect.) And, just like how, without headshots, some of the fun is taken out of sniping (part of the bonus of a sniper rifle is its precision, which doesn't matter nearly as much if you can't get what's essentially a realistic critical hit), without damage/armor types, your Rogue with twin daggers and your Paladin with a two-handed warhammer aren't nearly as robust in what they can do in combat. The fewer damage factors you have, the more it's just how much damage you do versus how much damage your enemy does, across the board. Your party members just become man-power. That's why in JRPGs you've got different elemental damage types and such. If your Mage did 50 damage with Lightning Bolt, no matter what, and your Warrior did 50 damage with his sword, no matter what, then the only real difference would be purely aesthetic. Not only are some foes weak to electricity and some are resistant to it, some foes are weak to physical damage and some are weak to magic damage. Not to mention the commonly found "armor break" and "magic defense break" skills and such that work along the same lines. In JRPGs, they expect you to use "Magic Defense Down" on an enemy with high magic resistance, and in P:E, they expect you to use a huge mace on an enemy with high armor. They're really pretty similar, when you think about it. i dont expect cRPG's to be like JRPG's at all... i'm just hoping something are a bit more streamlined like level progression, i don't want ability points to increase my stats (becuase i ALWAYS end up ruining my character or second guessing weather or not I'm doing the right thing) picking and choosing skills i can get down with (as long as i can unlock every skill at some point in the game, i hate not being able to unlock every skill) and i never use debuffs in JRPG's i always found it pointless because they are timed and normally don't last for the duration of the battle, though... FFXIII has forced me to do so... either way i don't want to argue about this anymore, i just hope i enjoy the game.
  19. Well, I hate to tell you, but if it's as simple as "I don't like damage types, and therefore I don't want them in the game," then your ideal game wouldn't have any magic, or poison, or bleeding... and the only difference between abilities would be how much damage they dealt and how quickly. Same goes for weapons. I'm sorry, but the complexity of things like damage types are part of what it means to play an RPG. You can't like chocolate cake, but hate chewing the chocolate cake simply because its effort. The effort is part of the eating of the cake. If we all had a gland in our mind that just let us taste whatever we wanted, people would still eat chocolate cake. If the only reason you don't like damage types is that they require more effort, then you don't like anything that requires effort. And an RPG game cannot require zero effort and still be a game. Therefore, either you don't like playing RPGs, or you have some other reason for not wanting damage types in the game. I don't particularly like the color red, but I don't think removing it would make the game any better. There's a difference between not-liking something and that something not-serving a purpose. That's all I'm getting at. have you ever played a JRPG? what i explained is exactly it, i don't mind elemental weaknesses or bleeding, just i like characters to have a set weapons, like the warrior uses swords mages use staff hunter uses a bow etc. i already know that i wont get what i want, though i would like some heads up as to which weapon would be more effective against what enemies, like some sort of skill that scans enemies and tells you its weaknesses or something? and why not give that skill to like the hunter or rogue class. honestly i know what i want isn't what im going to get man, i know that just like everyone here i wanted to give my two cents. i don't like different weapons with different damage types, granted im used to laying JRPG's and strategy is a bit different in that, I'm sure ill like this game regardless even though i may totally disregard the whole flail, rapier, two sided type thing.
  20. Yeah, I'm just curious here... if the simple inclusion of damage types makes things "more complicated than what they need to be," then how simple can you get before things fail to be complicated enough? Where's the "need to be" mark, and how have you determined it? Because if it's simply a matter of "damage types require more effort, and therefore are too complicated," then that reasoning would basically lead you to "Let's just compare the DPS between my party and the enemy group, and if mine's higher than theirs, give me a 'Kill All' button." There's gotta be a minimum of complexity to prevent that, and a reason for determining that minimum. i just don't like damage types, different weapons sure. i'm sure there are WRPG mainstays that you don't like
  21. i was thinking after reading a thread on summoning, should mages have familiars? it would make sense, and it would help the player, i dont know if it is a good idea or anything, i just want your guys two cents on the idea
  22. i've never been fond of the whole "blunt, smashing, piercing" i'm mostly interested in one thing the pointy end goes into the orc and the orc dies. granted im used to playing JRPG's where this really doesn't matter period. though that is part of why i play them they are simply to figure out, i hate being forced to put in stat thingies into things like mag. physical. constitution. etc. because to me it makes things more complicated than what they need to be, i prefer they each do their jobs and character stats and weapon/armor damage types.
