  1. Sounds a bit weird and opaque to me. Let's take a more extreme value. We still have 15 DR base value, and then Shock 2. Would that just not be DR 2 vs Shock? If not, what does the percentage calculation look like?
  2. If DR types are percentages and not integer values, what's the equation for Burn 7 turning into 7.5, the base DR being 15?
  3. I adore D&D for many reasons - a love going decades back (mostly from table-top, though) - and still I see no problem diverting from it for a game like PoE. Many mechanics are pretty wonky for CRPGs, and which D&D version are we talking about?
  4. Odd Hermit, you're a life saver! I had no idea. Now it all makes sense. Very well explained too. If this wasn't a beta forum, I'd say, this info ought to be stickied.
  5. Sigh, Medreth I detest you! I had just rolled a ranger to try it out in this BB, and picked Marked Prey. Sure enough, I smacked it on Medreth's head, and it only lasted like 3 secs, then he did his Escape act, and appeared behind my back (2 m shifting, as if my super-fast character wouldn't have noticed), and then Marked Prey is gone. Grr! In fact, this is wrong. A Marked Prey should remain marked. Also, a baddie marked by a ranger shouldn't even be able to Escape - it should be like a Escape suppression for that duration, just to make the Ranger class a bit more useful.
  6. Having begun to play around with various armours, I am overwhelmed. It's not just DR, that's for certain! First impression is like What the...? Pierce, Corrode, Crush, Slash, Banana, Tinky-Winky... You name it. And what benefits my character most: a plate mail or a fine brigandine mail, for instance? Both 12 DR and -50% recovery, but then, it's like mind-meld. Any learned players out there who can bring clarity?
  7. iamgoukas: Thx for sharing, mate! Brilliant stuff. I read every word of it, and reckon I can come to this conclusion already: Josh has poured his soul into the lore and cultures and socio-historical contexts and conflicts. What a fantastic effort! Hats off to you, Mr Sawyer. Finally, a game with some academic diligence and depth.
  8. For real? That simple? Wow. I was scouring the character tab, right-clicked portraits, etc, and didn't see any such option.
  9. Just 10% on those first precious days? It will be a huge struggle for them here on in, that's for sure.
  10. Mere opinions? They need to be elevated to "beta feedback".
  11. I have a related question, sorta: How do I dismiss a companion in-game?
  12. aeonsim: Nice tips. Thx! Talking oneself through the game will be tough, though. I recall BG1 back in the day. First time, some minor quest convos were almost impossible to judge how to resolve peacefully. It took meta-knowledge in later playthroughs to get them right, as it were. All I know is that Obsidian's solo challenge will be super-tough.
  13. morhilane: I meant on Hard. I'll try it later, and see how it goes. Perhaps you are right, but after my little tests today, I'm not very optimistic. Mind you, I'm not allowed to use Arcane Veil and any armour. We'll see how it turns out with more enemies and all.
  14. I love the area loot feature in the BG EEs', so I'm sure I will appreciate it in PoE as well. Looting each corpse individually is fine, of course, but tedious is tedious. In this way, we get rid of a mechanism that didn't add any RPG-value (except for realism, I suppose?). I'm not at all nostalgic about it being gone. Sorry.
  15. My concern is much more about six naked spell-slinging mages being next to non-viable.
  16. I like the old racial way more too. Me too. Please reverse this decision. It was fine just as it was.
  17. Perhaps, but the stark red "Lore 4 required" (or something), certainly tries to tell me something. And when my Lore 8 character has one of them scrolls, the message seems clear: You cannot use it. Best thing would be if that text "Lore 4..." disappeared, if the one having it in invo or on quickbar fulfils the requirement.
  18. After my solo tests in BB 480 on Easy, I am a bit chocked, to be honest. (EDIT: I used slomo for the first time, and I tried to pause and issue commands, but to no avail.) Why? Well, it showed something else very clearly, apart from soling being super-difficult ( I know, it's intended): You need a tank, you need a tank, you need a tank, you need a tank, you need a tank, you need a tank, you need a tank... You get the picture. If you approach any hostile, or have neutrals go hostile on you, they will still bum-rush you like there's no tomorrow. It's frigging scary. *Poke* A hoard of maniacs overrun you! I relatively rarely make my main a tank in CRPGs, so I find it a bit sad, given the ability to create our own party, and Josh's goal of all builds viable, that parties with no tank whatsoever (spell-wise or armour-wise), is not supported. Perhaps I wanted a glass cannon or a sneaky ranger with a bow. At the moment, that will be impossible, even on lower difficulty levels. I really wish that this will change, but I doubt it will do so before Poe's released, obviously.
  19. I forgot to inform you that it was the Feisty voice set.
  20. A couple of builds ago, I did make a very neat druid build that soloed the Medreth fight and beetles etc at Dyrford crossing, so it may be the best choice for me. I haven't tried summons at all with Chanters, so thanks for the heads up.
  21. Hi all! I've just tried to solo the 480 BB, level Easy. First, I tried it with my Amauan rogue, and then BB wizard, BB fighter, BB priest, and BB rogue, in that order. All died in the first fight - Medreth - using only their starting gear in the BB. The one closest to make it was BB fighter. Sure, I'm a bit rusty at the game, so I prolly sucked, but still... I need some serious tips and pointers to even try my hand at that super achievement Obsidian baited me with: Solo PoE at Path of the Damned, max difficulty and Expert, IIRC.
  22. What the title says. When BB priest looks at her scrolls out of combat, and she has Lore 8, they are greyed out and have a red text (presumably means not usable, saying Lore 4 only). But as soon as combat ensues, those scrolls (if on quick bar), becomes usable and readily available. And they do work. I have confirmed that.
  23. Hi! Just entered sneak mode with my female Amauan rogue, and she got a man's voice confirming it. Unless this is some Voice of Reason or Voice of God, seemingly male no less, it must qualify as a bug.
  24. Yay! Soon we get to play it for real, and great new portraits!
