I think there's a huge chance that "Latest Rumors" is out... I say this because of the way Bethesda have advertised NPC to NPC conversations. If it works like Bethesda say, then the NPCs will walk around and actually discuss the latest rumours with eachother. As seen in the 20 minutes of gameplay video, the PC overhears two NPCs discussing a rumour/some news and the PC can then ask NPCs about that rumour/topic. If this works, I think it'd really add to the gameworld... it'd certainly make the characters less stiff (unless all characters in the game repeat the same rumour convos over and over again until eternity) But I'd also like to be able to ask the bartender about the latest news

The reason they cut the History part of character creation was because they didn't have enough time to beta test it. As I understand it's fairly common for the game to crash and/or freeze in the game creation screen if you've enabled histories. Especially if you spend too long time in the character generator. So, there are probably some major bugs and glitches with the histories. There's a fanmade histories mod where many of the bugs have been fixed, though. Check Paine's Site One thing I can think of right now is that there is a section in the game where you NEED a firearm. I couldn't finish it without one, as it included a part where you had to shoot at a certain object. Hitting it with a sword didn't work, I believe. So the Ninja history may be flawed. Of course, you can probably godmode yourself out of that one... maybe. Anyway, have fun with the game!

The drunk half-ogre in the first town you get to is a good melee fighter. He bashes things and keep it plain. There's also a dog somewhere . I guess that's a half spoiler... Believe me, you'll know who the REALLY good NPCs are, and they won't join you until you're high enough level. You know, just save and kick a member if you have to, then have a NPC join you and look if he's any good. But that drunk guy I kept with me the whole game, every time I've played it I believe. A hot tip... keep some blunt weapons in store as many enemies will break your poiny and sharp weapons rather quickly. Don't fear my "spoilers" they don't give away any story or stuff... it's just that they're tips and I'm not sure how much of a tip you want. Actually, they're both safe. Bah, just read them.

My impressions of the F.E.A.R demo is as follows: It's damn neat, hehe. It ran decently with most of the stuff at maximum and 1k resolution (9800 pro), but I ended up with cranking down some stuff to medium and playing at 0.8k resolution anyway, because it lagged a bit in some areas. Anyway, blah blah blah, in the trailers I saw the character jump and make kicks... I wondered how to do this and messed around a bit... And I found out that if you jump (in ANY direction) and press the melee attack button (I think it's unassigned by default) the character jumps and makes a series of kicks. This kills the normal grunts instantly and makes them fly like HELLUVA! Instead of sneaking around and dodging I just ran right smack into the middle of them grunts and kicked and shot like a damn right bastard. It was totally chaotic, and to tell you the truth I didn't loose any more health than I did taking cover. In some cases I even lost less. Plus they scream in F.E.A.R of me. There's also this slide thing... if you jump then press the crouch and melee attack key at the same time he makes a slide kick. Seriously, the whole kicking thing made the action really upbeat and highly raised my opinion of the demo. The guy's a friggen ninja, I tell ya! Note however that the guy in armor bitch-slaps you if you try kicking him. The real downer for me was that the weapons felt... I dunno... thin. I'm not sure if it's the sounds or whatnot. But the kicking MAN, THE KICKING!!!1'' EDIT: Seriously, the guy TAP DANCE on their FACES!

<{POST_SNAPBACK}> For some reason I couldn't play the Longest Journey demo... well, I could but it crashed a lot, but I didn't have any problems with the full version of the game (I'm running on the same windows version as you, and an ATI card). I had two crashes I think. I think I did something to try and fix it though... there's a patch, but I'm not sure that it solves the issues with XP or ATI. I know that there are apparantly differences between the 4 disc and 2 disc versions of the game... there are issues with AA and ATI cards on the 4 disc version of the game. I think the game worked for me without more fixes than the XP compability mode, but since you've already solved your problem by getting a nVidia card (right?) any further speculation is pointless. Actually, I just posted to say that I think the game is good and I hope you give it a shot regardless of your hardware/software issues with it thus far.

Meh, all the servers are full ;___; ... trying to get it from the secret fat-line swedish server  First game I'm actually waiting for to release something playable.

So which new RPGs were unveilled at E3?

I dunno?... were they? Fallout 3 was pretty much announced at least a couple of months ago though. -

I agree, all the news seem to be about nex-gen consoles or next-gen console games. I mean, I don't care if there's tons of news about em, I'd just like to get some news for the PC as well. I think I've watched about 4 or so trailers/teasers for PC games. (there are some sports game trailers I haven't watched though). Shame about Bioware - and most likely Obsidian - not showing stuff at E3 this year... I'm hoping we'll see something from them soon anyway, though. Has any NEW RPG's been unveilled at all at E3 though? We knew about em already, and had some screenshots and info anyway. -
Yeah, I wish developers would throw us a bone and show us at least SOME clips from the actual E3 demos. To my mind gameplay should be more important to show. Considering it has the word "game" in it, and "graphics" clearly do not. Although both contain a "g" and an "a". Uh... well, that's half of "game". Right. Seriously though, I'm very interested in seeing something from the E3 demo of oblivion. Even though it can be fabricated, I'd still like to know roughly where Elderscrolls has headed after Morrowind.

If you mean mesh foliage, you'll probably have to wait a while. But physics, at least simple physics, on flat, textured polygons probably ain't that far ahead. NWN even has it EDIT: Btw, Erik

While I keep reading about Hellgate: London, it certainly doesn't come off as an RPG... I mean, the screenshots are all guns, and the texts describing the game feels like something written for Blood 2. *L* But who knows, eh? -
Either way, that emperor isn't in-game. Combat can be played 3rd person, as it could in Morrowind, and you see it in the trailer. And I agree... it looked fabolous when the first screenshots were out, but now the graphics are good but not especially groundbreaking. The graphics certainly aren't ugly or bad though After I saw the trailer I thought "Heck, my current computer should be able to run that". Sorta looks like EQ2 but with much better design and more grass, trees and stuff. I think many developers should work more on animation. It doesn't matter how many shaders or texture layers you stick on a character, if it moves like a high-school stop-motion project it won't look good. That wasn't a jab at Oblivion, but at games in general... including Morrowind.

A high-quality version (not shot with a camera by a reporter) can be found at the elderscrolls website. The scene with the text, flying sword, the emperor, and the heir kneeling in the end are pre-rendered. The rest is in-game. (As described by a Bethesda Dev) Official Version of the Trailer Just thought I'd keep the thread updated. EDIT: I repeat, not shot by camera, so it's got good visual and sound. I think the DivX version is almost full-screen capture, sorta like those Half-life 2 videos that popped up after E3 last year.

I highly agree. I just thought I'd chime in and plug dreamfall.com, which is the sequel to The Longest Journey... It'll be some kinda Action/Adventure game. Just in case you hadn't heard of it On-topic: My buddy is building an arcade cabinette, so he's purchased an arcarde stick (2-player) and stuff and we've spent a few weekends now playing old arcade games and drinking some beer. Dungeons and Dragons is just awesome, hehe. (Not to mention Metal Slug) While many of the old arcade games don't have much of a story depth, the gameplay is still very entertaining, and the animations are often tip-top-notch. Actually, the latest Metal Slug game isn't old at all (2004-2005 or something) so there's still a market for 2D sprites. Not to mention all the cell-phone games. I think that gameplay may have gone forward however, as when I play through old abandonware games and such - I sometimes get fed up faster than I did back in the early 90's. Then again, there were bad games back then too. If someone released a 2D sprite windows compatible refurbished Master of Magic, I'd be very interested. I replayed the old game recently, and boy... talk about joy EDIT: Actually, the characters in Morrowind were shallow and cold, and the textures on their faces wasn't much to look at. I often found myself mentally anthropomorphize them... you know, to give 'em more character. I wonder if we've done that with the old games as well. You know, with less details it's easier to fill in the gaps.

Well, while the time issue certainly takes away any sense of urgency, I kinda liked it since it gives me the freedom to finish the game at my own pace.
-
What forum IS that? o_o
-
Actually, I believe you can finish the last boss in Fallout 2 without a fight. But I agree, it takes wits and that's something the player has to have. In fact, I'd have to say that most of the game depends on the player having some wits (not an abundant amount, just enough to get him through some quests). But I think it's the change of the game being demanding on the players wits, to the game being demanding on the players reflexes that is being debated Not that a game that demands reflexes can't demand some wits!

Really? I couldn't tell because the sound is so distorted (all sound, not just the voice over). It must be recorded with a camera, unless that site uploaded a new version of the clip after I downloaded it.
-
Eh, yeah sorry, mate... I shouldn't have pushed it through a second post as I wasn't being very serious with it in my first post. SteveThaiBinh: Yeah, I agree. It'd be nice even if they just went away from the 1st person/3rd person follow cam modes to a more top down mode. Judging by the comments from the devs themselves, it's not very likely to happen though.
-
Yeah, the combat animations are still very stiff. The voice over is probably horrible because the whole thing looks like it's shot with a camera. If not, then they should probably hire a new soundtech. Btw, they've opened up a store for Oblivion merchendise I may buy the game, but I don't really need an oblivion pen.
-
Hell even I think, there's a small chance at it being decent..tho I won't view it as a Fallout game :D <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's about how I feel about it. And fallout 2 is so old that a part of its feel is the (now) shoddy grafics and stuff.

1. "It's OK to say you don't like a game, but referring to another company's employees as "weenies" or flatly saying another company "sucks" will simply not be tolerated here." and you even said "I've learn they suck by experiencing their trash." ;P Not that I care, mind you. I believe you're entitled to your opinion. 2. I agree, the game may become worse as a result of them trying to correct the flaws from previous games. The only certain thing is that we won't know until the game's done. And if it does suck, it's not the end of the world. It's just a game
-
It's interesting how you claim me to be a Bethesda fanboy just because I don't break the forum rules and troll about other game companies. Many of the flaws in Morrowind, Bethesda say they're trying to fix in Oblivion. That means that there's a chance it can be a much better game than Morrowind. Regardless of what you think of their previous products, you cannot deny that Oblivion might become a game that you'll enjoy. I personally have no illusions about what FO3 will become, good or bad. I am almost certain however (although I could be wrong) that it will not be a turn-based isometric RPG. Kaftan: I wouldn't trust what stores say. They always put release dates up before they know anything. Game sites state the release date as To be announced.

Watched this earlier today. Looks fancy This is just the teaser though... I read that they'll show a demo in the EXPO part of E3. I suspect that the teaser -may- be either what they'll show us non E3 attendants or they have a longer trailer in store. At first I was really excited about the grafics, and was looking forward to playing around with a Morrowind with better grafics for a while. But what interests me now is to see the new dialogue system and how the npc's are and such. Judging by the looks of the king, they've got face morphs and such going on at least. Btw, what they'll show in the E3 demo includes stuff like the fast-travel map and other new things (according to the news on elderscrolls.com). Hopefully we'll get to see clips from that in the days to come.

Fallout 3? Out in a year? o_o I should think NOT. (unless my daily visits to NMA has been for naught.)
