What would make you pledge more?

More areas, more story, and eventually longer game play. 100+ hour games is my thing. Combat difficulty? Meh. Ironman? I'll pass, it leads to googling cookie cutter builds. Translations? Don't care. -
"Other" Playable Species Poll
Gecimen replied to Gecimen's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Dunno but still a little bit of courage and creativity works wonders. My favorite game when it comes to companions (and overall) is PS:T, not just because they have a unique background but also their looks and behaviours are magnificiently well drawn and unique. -
New Game + vs Once and Done

My personal replay of choice is to replay after ~10 years have passed. I think it falls to the once finished I'm done category. -

I'm not sure what your point would be here. Fairy tales are just short stories of folklore. There's nothing wrong with them. But I don't think fantasy being open-bounded suddenly makes them short and part of an oral tradition. Haha nice one... And yes I agree the best fantasy is wild fantasy be it in a book or a bed In all seriousness, PS:T which is one of the most unusual settings seen in a cRPG, turned out to be the best ever. I'm sure Obsidian can go even wilder than that. -
coop multi can be fun but I don't think it's too much of a stretch goal.

"Other" Playable Species Poll
Gecimen replied to Gecimen's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Elves&Dwarves aren't even new designs. I'm talking about human with blue/red/green faces or face tatoos. Ah the Star Wars the Old Republic thing that were supposed to be 'Alien Races' but were really just Humans with face paint sort of thing then? Oddly enough that bugged me because a few of the Star Wars species that they didn't bother with at all were genuinely alien looking. Always made me sad. SWTOR and Everquest are two I can think of quickly. But many old cRPGs had wood elves, dark elves, moon elves, half orcs, and many other species that are simply recolored humans. Agree about SWTOR species but it was an abomination of a game so I don't even want to discuss. -

Well, they are a staple and at least they and dwarves make some biological/evolutionary sense. Basicly a off-shot of humans. human-animals make no sense. No sense in the real world. In mythology and popular fantasy, deities with animal forms mate and have human-animal mortal offspring. -

Well mythology is full of animal headed people though. And since LotR RPG settings have been deriving from mythology. True. It doesn't really make some random author slapping a Human and a Goat together come off as any less lazy to me. If anything it would make it seem even more lazy. Well except for very innovative ones. You can design countless different creatures out of X animal/human combination. What I find lazy is normal human with a little make up. -

Shameful but I can't find how to edit a post.... If I can I'll clarify the choices further, but I think there's a time limit. Werebeasts include; werewolves, wererats, werebears etc. Demonic includes incorporeal and outer plane beings. Not just horned deamons. Greenies include ogres, half giants, trolls and all sort of stuff. Small humans include faeries and that sort of little human shaped species. Undead include ghosts but I don't think ghosts would be a very popular choice. -

No probs, at least we'll know if people want it or not. -
There's another thread over this but it doesn't have a poll and I'm going to lose my eyesight trying to read all the pages. Ok, so we've got human, elves and dwarves, and I'm also excluding all their subspecies (drow, tiefling and whatnot). So what "other" playable species would you like to see in the game? I was going to add some more choices in the 2nd question but it has a limit of 10.

Crafting vs. Loot
Gecimen replied to Gecimen's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yeah I'm trying to tell the same, crafting shouldn't cross with loot. -
Romance is an important part, and a driving force of life. It's the cause of the most terrible wars, dramatic moments and tensions in history. Therefore it can't be left outside a mature themed cRPG. Yet still I want it to be all random and unpredictable: no romance meters, not limited with companions, not limited to opposite sex, and doesn't automatically end with marriage or sex unless the player wants to.

VO for every line = either very expensive or little content = crap story. -
Played SWTOR recently? @OP; I know it's nerdy but I'm a huge fan of Draconoids or that kind of stuff.

Crafting vs. Loot
Gecimen replied to Gecimen's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
This gives me a whole new idea. Updating OP. -
While I'm not a fan of realism (explained below), I'm having a lot of fun with games with good crafting mechanics. Yet in many games, crafting is usually secondary to whatever loot you can find throughout your adventures. This always keeps me from crafting new items since there's the chance of looting something better for the same slot. I think looting shouldn't be a cheap alternative to crafting or vice versa. So I've got this idea to merge looting and crafting. Many players are already against monsters and ghosts dropping arms and armour pieces. So let such creatures drop rare crafting items such as a magical leather, a rare gemstone, a monster blood or an essence of ghost. Such rare items can be used to craft different unique items such as vampire blood -> an item with life drain ability. Make items for some slots exclusive for crafting, such as helms, gloves etc, while others such as necklaces and rings are exclusively looted and can not be crafted by us. Nerdboners criticism gave me a whole new idea about recipes: Recipes are not found written on paper out in the wild, but rather we find broken pieces of legendary arms and armor from treasures or monsters, and we repair/recraft them with required materials.
