  1. Over-emphasized realism, adherence to DnD resulting in impaired game play. Yes DnD is the father of these games, but some of the ideas and ensuring everything "makes sense" down to minute detail level doesnt always work well for cRPG's. A lot of these ideas tend to really be pushed by the hardcore RPG crowd. I understand where they are coming from, but there is a reason that the audience for cRPGS is much greater and diverse than the audience for PnP DnD.
  2. What about energy based life form - can possess others temporarily, disrupt nervous systems, or connect inanimate objects to form a body/weapons.
  3. All of them. PS:T my favorite followed by BG2 + TOB
  4. Also for the mods see "part 2" section of this post: https://secure.gog.c..._essential_mods There are other mods but they add player made content to the game, some of them can be buggy and often they arent up to the same standard as the original game.
  5. There are some solutions to problem you described here: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/baldurs_gate_series/massive_screen_flickering
  6. Are you trying to run it in windowed or full screen mode. I found it runs better windowed.
  7. What do you mean by, "it wont run right"? Baldurs Gate 2 and other IE games can run without issue on Windows 7 64bit. Underlying hardware for the most part should be a non-issue.
  8. I wouldn't mind seeing some weaponized footwear - eg blades or spikes sticking out. Bolas Garrotte Weapons which knock people out - tranquilizers or bully clubs Trident and net Whips and its variants. Magical weapons would be great as well. I dont mean crafted, I mean a melee based magic class, whose weapons are conjured and maintained through pure magic.
  9. At this point I would up my pledge based on future stretch goals and overall how close we are to achieving them vs time remaining. I am really happy with this project and have confidence Obsidian will produce a great game. Very interested to see what future stretch goals are going to be. I really put a lot of value on: story depth how much influence the player can exert on the world around them detailed, engaging and entertaining npc interaction, world liveliness rich & detailed character progression. diverse and satisfying challenges throughout the game. (combat, puzzles, dialogue etc)
  10. This is great, can we add an entry for Media - art, concept art etc.
  11. I like itemizing my party and companions to optimize their effectiveness both in and out of combat, you can call items magical or non magical there should still be progression. I think it is just a matter of perspective. Having really well described items with unique names does help with this, and doesnt have to be limited to magical items. I agree that seeing rows of the same item with +1 +2 +3 +4 greatly diminishes that feeling of awesomeness. If it fits well with the game that is also fine, PS:T had less focus on items (well less item slots and items available), but I do not feel it was any less. In this game if magic is tied to souls, does that mean that magical items will have souls as well?
  12. One of the features I have always wanted to see in RPG's is a greater ability to engage NPCs to do things for you. Quite often what happens in an RPG is that the player is doing the work for NPCS even if the player is driving the plot. You will go to an NPC they will either inform you that they have what you need, before or after you ask them, then proceed to get you to do any number of tasks for them before they give you what you require. Due to being held within the framework of the plot and game systems you need to do them yourself, otherwise you cant progress. I would like to see some more options available which make sense in the context of your characters abilities, reputation, and resourcefulness (money, people you are loyal to you etc). Examples of this would be - Getting your out-of-party companions to take up the task - risk vs reward, you may get your companion injured/kill vs gaining experience and meeting an objective, or they may do it badly, either hurting your reputation or causing you to fail. - Hire some mercs to do the work for you. - Blackmail - NPC is withholding something from you unless you do xyz. Instead of doing the task get dirt on NPC, find out where he lives, get someone to tail him etc. - As you have more money bribing could be more feasible as well. - Political leverage, if you are known for having a strong reputation with the authorities/politicians people will take you more seriously. You could for instance either help get a store relocated to a better part of the city or you could put them out of business by ruining their reputation. This could either be done where you don't have enough time to do tasks yourself, due to urgency or as you progress and become more powerful/influential it makes sense to get others to do tasks similar to those which you did yourself at the start of the game. I feel there is a lot of opportunity to improve on these ideas, and would like to know how others think & feel about this?
  13. All of these options have potential, however I would not want single player story compromised (missed opportunities to improve and develop further - within reason of course) Personally I would prefer that modding be a stretch goal, if they could implement it with steam workshop, I think the amount of content available will be staggering.
  14. From New Zealand. Living in Singapore last 5 years.
  15. Rolling is the enemy of OCD must have best points people. When I played baldurs gate in 98 for the first time, or haha IWD the amount of time I spent rolling stats for all of my party members was absurd.
  16. Unique characters really add a lot to the game, both in terms of characterization and abilities. For me, more to learn about and experience is always awesome. Limiting everything to the same set of rules, unnecessarily removes opportunities for some amazing creativity. I remember every PS:T NPC very easily compared to characters from other BI games. Some others though Minsc, Many as One, HK-47 stick out for me as well.
  17. I like trapping NPC's in a conversation. Feeding them information which leads them to an actual or metaphorical trap. It would be good to setup ambushes. Find out where someone works or lives, the schedule of an event, plan it out then execute it - very satisfying. Why limit traps to mechanical, magical traps are also great
  18. What about having your own persistent and creepy stalker?
  19. Class specific strongholds are great, I would like to see something different or unique done in this space though, please not an actual tower!
  20. Generally what you will find is that a game with very rich lore, detailed, complex characters, & setting will have more opportunities and occurrences of great relevant and interesting dialogue to go with it. However that being said I loved a lot of the philosophical undertones and conversations which took place in PST and to a lesser extent BG2, and with the concept of magic being tied to your soul, my intuition tells me, we will be seeing more of that.
