When I made my question I was thinking, if Feargus was in the position to make the decisions about cancelling or continuing, bearing in mind he was running a business as well as making games. A hypothetical situation.
-
I'm wondering if Feargus would have cancelled Jefferson and VB in the way IPLY did, or what he would have done if he hadn't had left BIS. Though I doubt I'll get him to comment publically...

Obsidian must carry the torch
Mr. Teatime replied to Drazzil's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I agree with this, Anachronox is comparable to PS:T in terms of NPC depth and world detail, albiet done in a completely different way. This is why when asked to list my top 3 RPGs of all time I say Fallout, Anachronox, PS:T. If you've never played Anachronox but consider yourself a CRPG fan you really, really REALLY should. You won't be able to go back to KOTOR afterwards. It's one of the reasons I was excited about Josh Sawyer working at Midway because Tom Hall - creator of Anachronox - has moved there, and figured Midway might give him some cash to make another similar RPG. -
If it is KOTOR2 I'd suggest Obsidian look at Anachronox for inspiration for a console RPG, since it did everything that KOTOR tried to do 100 times better, better plot, better characters, a sense of humour, interesting mini games.....

DONT SPEAK HIS NAME! He might just appear

I found all of the KOTOR NPCs to be one dimensional and totally boring. Whereas PS:T had me reading every detail of NPC backstory, I couldn't click through the text fast enough as some whiny bitch told me I was 'more man that any other guy i've met' or something similar as cringe-worthy.

The way Carsten interacts with the fans is an example to other game devs. So were the final days of black isle, with JE, puuk and briarieous all posting on a daily basis.
-
UNless someone's already mentioned it, Feargus has said that they'd open the forums when they have something to discuss, so I'd guess some form of announcement is due in the next few days.

If you really have THAT money, do yourself and the world a favor and spend it for the really serious problems on this harsh world. So I must agree with Volo, games like PS:T are surely welcome, but not absolutely necessary. I couldnt fund the game but I'd certainly pay at least double the normal price of a game to get a product nearing PS:T's quality.
-
I guess you don't like PS:T in the way I do, then. Need is always relative. We don't need food. Only if our goal is to live do we need food. We don't need to avoid having our limbs sawn off - only if our goal is to keep limbs in tact. We don't need money, only if we want to buy things. Do we need art? Do we 'need' Shakespeare? That's a debate I'm not going to get into, but for my definition of 'need', in the same way we need the best contemporary art be it music, literature, or whatever, I *need* a game that is as fantastic as PS:T, and not another ****ing bioware NWN expansion.
-
I'm hoping that Obsidian will have the balls to make a PC only CRPG with Chris Avellone flexing those same muscles that he used to make PS:T. Please. The world needs games like that. Set up a paypal donation fund and I'll pay you money to make such a game.

I once wiped out a populated planet with my death star, and they sent this guy with a glowing sword to kill me. Turns out he was my second in command's son as well!

I often find Gromnir's speech hard to understand and largely pointless, as is arguing with him (and not because he always wins). So I have learnt to ignore him, as I'm sure he has me, and I'm a happeir person because of it.

But wasn't MW developed primarily for the PC then ported? So we got a PC game. Same as Max Payne 2 - developed for PC, ported to PS2 and xbox. Those were not 'dual development' games - the ones I can think of that were dual development, suck on the PC. Examples, Deus Ex 2, KOTOR (doesn't suck but certainly screams console in its small levels, bad interface etc.)
-
The worry I have is the fact it's dual platform development. This usually translates to 'console first, then PC port'. And it's a general rule that console games on PCs just aren't that good. Can't think of one at all off hand, let alone an RPG.

Nice interests you've got there in your profile, Mer. Is there a Josh fanclub?

Because I'm bored.... what is the origin of your name you choose on here, and the avatar you use? Origin of name: Mr. Teatime is from a Terry Pratchett book (comic fantasy), he was a mad assassin who devised plans to kill mythical figures such as Santa Claus, the tooth fairy, and Death. I thought the name, and the background, was pretty interesting and wierd. Origin of Avatar: It's the front cover of my favourite album, Pleased to Meet You, by a British band called James. Every track on that album seems relevant to me whenever I hear it, and the cover fits really well with the theme and content of the album. Everyone else?

Ok this post confirms to me that this isn't the real Visceris.

Looks like that swearing filter needs some tweaking.... EDIT: I don't think KOTOR was anything special, it's achievement was feeling 'star warsy' in places, but I wasn't that impressed when I played it. There are far, far better RPGs in existence, though none of them by bioware.

I don't know what you're talking about.
