Perfect Setting for POE 2
Grimo88 replied to Grimo88's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'd love to see Readceras too, but since its a former Aedyran colony, won't it be too similar to the Dyrwood, and just more of the same, with a theocratic bent? -
Want to start by saying I love this xpac to bits. I'm still in awe that I'm getting a second part later in the year. However, I'm having a lot of trouble justifying playing this mid-game. Here's some reasoning: 1) it's unreasonable if you wanted to play through the whole crit path with the rogue and monk companions, as they are behind a huge difficulty/level spike. 2) If you do this around level 7, as you're supposed to, in Act 2, by Act 3 you have the best gear in the game. There is no reason to do Endless Paths, or many of the side quests available. 3) By the time you're back from the March, you've outleveled a great deal of content, or are overgeared, and the rest of the game is trivialised (I just stomped the Sky Dragon on hard first go, unrested, in about 3 moves, not because of my great prowess, but because almost all of my party had soulbound weaps, and not even fully upgraded). 4) The story is great, but completely jarring in the grand scheme of the overall narrative, and not very well tied in. In fact, after leaving the White March, I'm not enjoying the Dyrwood at all, as everything is trivialised. I feel like now I'm just killing time until I can tackle Cragholdt. What do you guys think? Do you have advice for how and when to play the WM content? Should I simply treat it as a high-level add on and go with my pre-endgame save 12th level party?

Perfect Setting for POE 2
Grimo88 replied to Grimo88's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Readceras would be awesome, but probably too similar to Dyrwood. I would really love to see a spin-off game ala Icewind Dale set in Rauatai. I feel like it might be a little too alien for a sequel just yet. But, like you, I'd be happy to set it anywhere, I love the setting. Ixamitl with all of its malcachoa-ingesting goodness would be amazing too -
Ok, I'll give this a crack: Gameplay-wise: - More re activity with party members, and the return of party politics. More from the companions in general. Anonen-style quests where you could change their disposition entirely. - More challenging AI and encounter diversity. - More soulbound weapons, but far more difficult to gain and less ludicrously powerful, but still highly coveted. - One big city, instead of two, but with more emphasis on creating a living, deep city ala Athkatla. More factions to join, more life in the streets, multiple dungeons, a connected underworld of sewers, more secrets. I wasn't very impressed by Defiance Bay - No mega-dungeon, just more dungeon diversity. I feel like Cad Nua was gimmicky, and the resources might have been better spent on multiple dungeons with their own style and stories. Lorewise - More info. on the aspects and names of the gods that aren't Aedyran, like Cirono is Berath for the Vailians. - Fight a god or their avatar! - More aumaua lore. They are so cool, but seem to be rare in the Dyrwood. - No backer NPCs, or if there are, strictly enforced lore parametres, and no goddamn godlikes. - A mountain dwarf NPC. Not enough dwarves! - More on wizards - how are they different to animancers? What is their place in society?

What do you guys think of a Vailian City state as the setting of POE? I think this is perfect for a few reasons: 1. It mirrors the shift from Sword Coast to Athkatla - rolling hills and forests to a Mediterranean mercantile city state. No need for two 'big cities' this time - just one massive city divided by scheming houses, condotierri, slavers and pirates, just like Athkatla! 2. Animancy is more advanced and more accepted there, which means Obsidian can go crazy with encounter diversity, world building, creatures and concepts. 3. No more Engwithan ruins = hopefully greater dungeon diversity. Man do I have Engwithan fatigue, as much as I love those cats. 4. An atypical fantasy setting, and arguably one of the first settings in a video game where coloured people are the majority. A win against a stagnant set of genre stereotypes and a win for diversity!

Was thinking that. Is there a way I can preserves saves first? -
Bugapalooza 2.0.1
Grimo88 posted a question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
Hi, Just downloaded 2.01 off GOG. Hoo boy, where to start. 1. Graphical bugs everywhere. Most of my screen is pink. It is unplayable. 2. Can't leave areas. 3. Zahua is just a cloak/ 4. Hostiles enemies stand still and can be attacked without attacking back And this was the patch to fix the infinitely scaling unkillable golems in Galvino's workshop.... Man am i disappointed... -
Graphic bug after the patch 2.01

Same problem, GOG patch. Unplayable. What the actual hell. -
Hi all, I can't seem to get past the constructs in this place. They are insanely powerful. I have experienced the stacking defenses bug on a higher level party, but right now with my level 7s, even though I've reloaded a bunch of times, their stats are staying the same (around 51 DR) but I simply cannot hurt them enough before they destroy my party. Not sure if this is a bug or I am too low a level. Please help.

Love the expansion, but...

After starting White March with a fresh, level 5 party, I've found my party is talkative and interacting with the newbies! Before, I loaded from a pre-End Game autosave with a max level party. They never said a word. Could this be a bug? -

Really? I've done heaps of side quests around Stalwart so far and still haven't heard a peep! -
REALLY disappointed that the new characters don't interact with other party members. You can't ask the original party members what they think about them, they have no banter, and generally, they are completely separate. Unfortunately, it also seems like the original voice cast were unavailable or too expensive. The NEW voice-acting is absolutely top notch, but there's a big, gaping hole where the original party members should be!

Have you found a recording? I can't seem to find anything but the live stream which is over. How can I watch this? So, the plot.
Grimo88 replied to Stargazer86's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
It's the first game in a new universe, and a new series. Why do you want them to exhaust all their mysteries and wrap up everything in a neat little package in Game One? Also, Obsidian are masters of their craft. I would wager if they haven't wrapped something up, then it isn't through laziness, but by choice. Hell it's a theme that is constant through the whole goddamn game, that the truth is elusive, and most people go to their graves not knowing answers to life's great questions JUST LIKE WE DO. It's just like Wael says: the seeking of the knowledge is more important than the answer. I mean, it's spelled out for you right there as a major theme in the game. -
I can't believe this, but...

My characters are stuck on a ledge after one of those narrative moments IN THE LAST DUNGEON OF THE GAME. Only Pallegina can be selected, and no matter what I do, my party will not move after jumping the ledge. I have loaded three different saves and it isn't fixed. -
Defiance Bay Act 3

Was anyone else just thinking of this the whole time when listening to the music? -
*wipes brow* I read that comment too and thought 'Oh God, it's happened, AAA gaming has finally killed my late 90s/Early Naughties gaming pedigree. I can't kill these f@%ing beetles, I'm doomed.' But, seeing you say that has made me feel better.

Thanks Sen. Balance issue, or intended? It's a noticeable leap in difficulty
-
So I just started up the beta for the first time since release. I played it through twice on release, and now... is it just me or did normal difficulty get super hard? before I felt it was challenging but ultimately satisfying but now I get steam rolled by beatles, using similar tactics. Has the difficulty been bumped for testing purposes? I found it really unenjoyable. Wizard seemed quite limited, and fighter went down very quickly.
-
Having completed all the content, I want to ask Obsidian whether the choices made in the beta, if implemented in the complete game, will have lasting effects. If we let the Vithrak go, do we encounter it and its colony later in the plot? If we convince the ogre to leave, will we encounter him downriver later? If we allow Aelys (spelling?) to go free to carry out the Skaenite's plot, will we watch the fall of House Harond? I suppose what I am asking is, do these fantastic moral choices (there are some classic, nailbiting ones here, as I have come to expect of a post-NV Obsidian) cause a ripple effect in later parts of the game?
-
Yeah. I like the writing but, whew... Torment had a nice mix of darkness and levity. I am really not seeing any levity in the beta so far. I realise it is a matter of taste, but I'm just waiting for some light moments... BG was full of unforgettable one liners. I feel like the story is taking itself a little too seriously so far.

Seconded. Finding it very hard to know what's what. Don't understand a lot of my classes' innate abilities that don't have a tooltip,
