If you had to choose, which is more important: plotline or world?
Progressive_Stupidity replied to Death Machine Miyagi's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)If the world is rich and full of lore and the characters are deep and nuanced it can uplift a pretty generic storyline so I'll go with that. I mean, look at Bioware's last few games. The plots are **** and uninspired but the companions really help make up for it. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect greatness on both fronts from PE, though, considering the talent and the games they're citing as inspiration.

Update #9: The power of MODES and Godlike Races: Our $2.3M Stretch Goal
Progressive_Stupidity replied to The Guildmaster's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & NewsThis. I was hoping for a mod kit confirmation. Or a well loved voice actor volunteering to voice a companion at 2.3 or something but that one is pure wishing.

What would make you pledge more?

Is this Arcanum 2 ?
Progressive_Stupidity replied to Virgility's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Arcanum was the first game I played and nothing has ever surpassed it. If there was ever an Arcanum 2 kickstarter or a remake or an enhanced edition I would surely soil myself in pure shock and ecstasy.

What type of "player house" would you like?
Progressive_Stupidity replied to Kopi's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)The thing that would make a player home truly a 'home' to my player character would be having it populated with colourful characters and companions. So an inn would make the most sense, in that regard.

Stretch Goal #2 Reached! Congrats!
Progressive_Stupidity replied to Vatdim's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I'm pretty confident it will do as well as Wasteland 2. Has there been any mention of modding tools if a certain budget is reached?

Character's name identified by NPCs
Progressive_Stupidity replied to kenup's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Companion NPCs being fully voice acted is my biggest buff. The big bad throwing a speech is fine, but when your buddies that you have been going through hell with, for months or years, refer to you as knight-captain or some-such, while not under your direct command? that's annoying. like really, really annoying. Note that I'm not against voice acting in general. Just when this makes people that would logically refer to your character by name, completely ignore it. I just think that a companion (even one already well written) can be elevated so much by a talented voice actor and their takes on certain lines. If they have to refer to the player character as 'Warden' or 'Living One' or 'Shepard' to accomodate this then so be it. I understand why this is a peeve for some people. I suppose with certain characters as you gain reputation with them they could start to refer to you with a friendly nickname or something.

Character's name identified by NPCs
Progressive_Stupidity replied to kenup's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I'd rather have the most important NPC's voiced (companions and frequently recurring characters pivotal to the plot) and referring to my character by some sort of title or nickname than have no voice acting. It's never really bothered me that much, except maybe in DA2 where your immediate family are calling you 'Hawke' but that was the least of that games problems.

Gay and Lesbian Inclusiveness!
Progressive_Stupidity replied to c0wb0ycliche's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)People tend to like seeing characters they can identify with in various ways. If you consider that pandering, much of the game is. True but you don't see those people getting together and petitioning for representation, and furthermore you don't always see those characters always represented in every game. It differs from game to game based around what the devs want, and not what they are pressured into doing by entitled people. Most minorities are represented by default nowadays and do not NEED to get together and petition for representation. There is still major opposition to gay characters in games (or dialogue options that allow players to role-play as gay). So what if there is major opposition to gay people? Go out and fight against the discrimination instead of acting like you're being discriminated in a game if you're not represented in it. I mean why are you wasting your time here asking for gay characters in a video game instead of fighting for gay marriage or to be treated equally. I mean do you see how absurd that is? Um, because it's 11:20pm and I have an extremely naughty puppy to look after at the minute? It's not even a big political thing to me. I'm gay. I like roleplaying games. I like to roleplay gay characters. Of course I could IMAGINE that characters in game acknowledge me as gay, or a mage, or from the Forests of Xanth but it's all the more enjoyable for me if the game actively supports these aspects of my character. Straight people don't have to bother bringing up the suggestion for their inclusion, because it's pretty much a given that they will be able to play a straight character if they so desire. I'm not 'acting like I'm being discriminated against if I'm not represented in a game'. I'm showing support for a feature I want that may not necessarily be considered if not otherwise requested.

How should magic work?
Progressive_Stupidity replied to fan's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Both mana or exhaustion would work for me. I also liked the sustained spell system in DA:O. It's incredibly irritating to have to keep casting defensive spells and buffs every minute or so. Just take a chunk off my mana pool and be done with it.

Which game hook brought you to Project Eternity and interests you the most?
Progressive_Stupidity replied to Ieo's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Arcanum mostly, plus the Fallouts (including New Vegas). I don't like the Star Wars franchise and haven't played PS:T.

Achievements
Progressive_Stupidity replied to buggeer's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I wouldn't mind them if they were similar to Arcanum, noted in an in-game journal. I never did become the pervert of Tarant, but it was cool to gain reputations for befriending the Molochean Hand or putting Bessie Toone to rest. I'd like to see something like that.

Do you want firearms in Project Eternity?
Progressive_Stupidity replied to Dalliance5's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)It worked for Arcanum.

Gay and Lesbian Inclusiveness!
Progressive_Stupidity replied to c0wb0ycliche's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I support this. It will greatly enhance role-play for gay players (or people who like to role-play all sorts of different characters) and I trust Obsidian to write nuanced gay characters.
