Oin the comments section on kickstarter a few hours ago Feargus stated that they haven't chosen a distributor in Russia and Poland yet. And he stated that they noticed your doubts about C1/Denega and will be very strict in negotiations with any possible distributor when it comes to quality. So have some faith in Obsidian that they will not let your translations down.... -

Justin, your music from the trailer was amazing, really liked it! I think you know Kai Rosenkranzes (former Piranha Bytes) score from Gothic 3? It's without doubt one of the most sophisticated soundtracks ever produced for a PC video game. I hope PE's soundtrack will at least come close to the quality of that masterpiece! That's not really going to be all that accurate. Especially as we go more towards the end due to the unpredictable spikes in the last days. Yup. A paladin is basically a warrior or knight that can cast a few divine spells and also has auras, etc. They are quite different. A Paladin is a very good fighter too. Clerics/priests are not. Hey! A yo momma D&D class / combat powa comparison. A 3E Fighter / Cleric trumps a paladin of an equivalent level every time. Gah. Multi-classing, especially 3E multi-classing, shouldn't be used as reasoning for not including a class. Some people just don't get that paladins are NOT necessarily bond to a clerical institution. Chevalry is about doing the right things in life in mainly a secular way. Surely, there are some very religious paladins as the crusaders and they all share a common codex with a strong religious flavour but they are NOT part of the clergy..... -

I'm going to be a broken record here. When the question is asked, I always push for new. Bards and Paladins aren't new. The classes we already have announced aren't new either, but that's a lost battle for me. I've only played one computer fantasy roleplaying game that had psionics in it, so as far as I'm concerned that's pretty exciting. I'm not against using classics, don't get me wrong. But if we only have two possible classes left, I want to see something I haven't seen as much before. I'll still be excited and hopeful for the game if all the classes and races are things I've seen before. So until that's set in stone, I'm going to push for new things. Because if I can carve out just a tiny little hole where there's a four-armed insectoid race or playable blob and a class where the theme is throwing furniture or long-distance spitting, I'll be ecstatic. Not to say that I should derail this thread with nay-saying. But you asked why not. Yeah, but the whole project is built around the topic to bring the flair, the gameplay and the emotions of the old infinity engine games back to life. So what's the matter with the classic classes? Damn, it is a classic RPG! Many people like exactly that kind of games with everything in it, classes included. That's what I am here for. If I want to play new classes I don't back an old-school approach on RPGs.... -

Maybe but why should I? There isn't a single reasonable arguement why paladins shouldn't be present in the game. In fact, adding them would only mean additional content you don't have to like at all. But why saying no to it if other people like it? I personally don't say that they should take ciphers or the adventurers hall or whatever out of the game though I'm not interested in them at all. -

Only if it's restricted to fighter-types only and it unlocks a paladin sub-class. If a fighter can't become an archamge, then I don't want to see mages being called paladins. Not even as a title. In fact, if there is a subclass or title only fighters should be able to become such. Priests/clerics shall never be paladins/knights because they are part of the clergy and only obey to their church and their gods while paladins/knights commit themselves to oaths which are far more secular. They also gain their power through faith but not by following clerical ideology but by following the path about what is right, just and lawful. -

There are three options which would work for me: 1) A full paladin/knight class 2) Paladins/knight as subclass of the fighter class with their title and skills/abilities 3) A fighter who can become a paladin/knight during a quest or something like that (with new skills/abilities and reputation) All I want is a confirmation from Obsidian that it will be possible in some way to play a paladin/knight character in PE! (And as Jalister already said in the kickstarter comments: I will not discuss with people who nay classes only because they're not interested in them.) -

Please read at least some of the posts already existing here before writing your own.... We don't want paladins solely for gameplay reasons, we want them for roleplaying reasons because of their moral conflicts, their perfect fit for mature topics, their attitude, their style, their way of talking with other people, their way of acting and so on. Why the hell are you people playing story-driven RPGs? There's a lot more than combat in it. In fact, in a perfect RPG you should be able to avoid most combats with other skills and the paladin is a perfect fit for that because of his leadership skills, his reputation in society (good or bad or somewhere between), probably his speaking skills as member of the nobility, his faith in his mission and things like that. The same is true for bards to a great extend. Perhaps they are not the best fighters out there but they are damn good in talking with NPCs and companions, in gathering information, in holding up morals in your group and so on.... So show some respect for these forgotten classes! -

A paladin is just a slightly less useful healer than a cleric with slightly more combat ability to make up for it. A cleric in this universe sounds like it has the ability to easily become a paladin equivalent and focus more on combat than cleric-y stuff- hence, paladin is redundant. You just don't get the point. I'm NOT talking about gameplay.... I'm talking about that picture and it's message (not only the written one): -

A paladin is NOT a priest or cleric, not at all. They might share a comparable gameplay but contentswise they are very different. Or would you say that a druid is the same as a cleric because they share common spells (in D&D at least)? I wouldn't say so. Playing RPGs is as much about imagination as it is about gameplay. *wimp mode on* So I won't raise my pledge any more until there is confimation that you can play as paladin (at least as a serious sub-class of the fighter class)! */wimp mode off* -

Spears were popular for fighting on horseback because of their range, that's also right for the middle ages, I admit. And the city watch also used spears and halberds, but mostly not for real fighting but for deterrence and symbol of their stand. I also admit that spears were used in the middle ages by poor peasants and landsknechts, but not very often by knights. A spear was a weapon for the poor because you only need a stick and a little iron point. And I think the companions in PE should be no poor peasants who couldn't buy not even a sword. And even if they fight with a spear they would certainly exchange it with a sword from a fallen enemy if they had the chance to do so. Vikings used spears as well but their greatest appearance in Europe was at the very beginning of the middle ages and not at the end. At the beginning of the middle ages armor techniques weren't as sophisticated as in the transition to the Renaissance and same is true for weapons techniques.- 42 replies

Exaclty, if I jump you with a pike that's long twice your sword you should be quite ad a disadvantage! The range of spears is the real disadvantage in an head-to-head encounter because it makes you inflexible and slow. Years of oriental martial arts movies all for nothing. Red Cliff, Hero, <no other movie comes to mind cuz I'm sleepy>! I curse your inaccuracy! Usually, martial arts fighters don't fight in heavy armor and shield, that's an immense difference. For a monk class fighting with a spear "martial arts style" could be reasonable but certainly not for warriors in full plate (unless they fight in narrov formation).......
