Emphasis mine. Omnipotent? Say what? As is clear from the Alpine Dragon, the Adra Dragon was strong, but not improbably so for a member of her species. She had powers of astral projection, telepathy, and possession, but that's a far cry from being an intangible spiritual construct with ill-defined but generally tremendous influence on the physical plane, as the gods are. And he herself noted that once the Adra ran out, she'd starve to death like any other animal that ran out of food. I probably meant to say "omniscient".

It seems that the gods of Eora were constructed by combining the souls of thousands of Engwithans. The Adra Dragon has been essentially eating souls out of Od Nau's adra statue for centuries. Apparently, this granted it god-like omnipotent powers, such as the ability to observe what was going on on the surface for a radius of miles. Similar process?

I've seen that complaint about Magic Missile before...has somebody been reading the Something Awful forums? That guy overstated his case, though. Unlike most other wizard spells, PoE's Minoletta's Missiles spells launch multiple projectiles which hit separately in rapid succession; in theory, wherever fast attacks are useful, they're even more useful. PoE also has an interruption mechanic, which could possibly use some tweaking to make it more attractive. It's true that the missiles don't always hit, but I think it's a good thing that PoE is saving "always hitting" as a feature for high level abilities in a sequel. So basically, I think the spell is okay, but it could use some context (encounter design, tweaks, etc) to makes its advantages more obvious. And multiple quick long range blasts should have advantages. Adding more Mirror Image-type statuses that change based on number of hits, along with enemies that use them, would be helpful here.

But during the period immediately after the game's release, he seemed to be taking a pretty "glass half full" approach to Pillars of Eternity. For example, see him lavish praise on creative lead Eric Fenstermaker here: https://twitter.com/ChrisAvellone/status/583680931774373889 https://twitter.com/ChrisAvellone/status/582593216542744576 I think something must have happened afterwards.

Do not make the game isometric
Infinitron replied to Bercon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Larian is a smaller company than Obsidian, but the Divinity: Original Sin team was much larger than the Pillars of Eternity team. I promise you that it did not have "about the same budget", no matter what they say. -
Why can we loot the NPCs?

Dude you make the weirdest threads -
I think certain elements of the main plot of PoE were meant to be at least superficially evocative of PS:T. For example, it seemed obvious to me that Iovara was meant to be a take on the Deionarra role (although her relationship with the protagonist is ultimately very different - intellectual rather than emotional)

PoE 2.
Infinitron replied to tedmann12's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
The way experience points are structured in PoE is potentially great for balance. In a given act or segment of the game, you go to a town, do all the quests and get experience, eventually plateau at a certain level, and then go to a dungeon or other combat area with encounters that are designed and balanced precisely for that level. Rinse and repeat in subsequent acts. -
That's how I read it as well. At Survival 7, your party member gets to select the Damage Reduction v2 or any of the other (now unlocked) v1 options. At Survival 8 it's v2 DR and Healing Multiplier or any of the other v1 options. Wonder if it's a "hey, one of your guys has unlocked this and now that you're resting you get to pick one thing for your whole party" thing or a "oh, I see you're resting. Please use the interface to assign individual bonuses to each of your party members based on their Survival skill" thing. I actually almost hope it's the latter though I'm sure people are going to bitch about it being tedious. If they do that, it'll probably be a thing you can select as a default option for every character so that you don't have to go through six menus every time you rest.
-
Notice that the description says "choose from a variety of bonuses". Does that mean you have to select one of the six when you rest (or less if your rank is less than 6), like how you select just one of your available Stronghold rest bonuses? In any case, I think increasing the bonus itself has more long-term value than increasing the duration. With the enemies you face at high levels, piddling bonuses just aren't going to be that helpful no matter what their duration is.

They're not going to make that many spells and abilities. -
PoE 2.
Infinitron replied to tedmann12's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
In a previous post, I suggested that the character could have his level halved due to some sort of "soul-drain" (which is something that could have happened to you in Baldur's Gate 2 as well, due to Irenicus' "experiments", if you think about it). So instead of a spread of level 12 to level 16, you get a much more reasonable spread of level 6 to level 8. -
PoE 2.
Infinitron replied to tedmann12's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Hmm how do we know it for sure? Is there a link to an interview or a tweet? The last thing I read about a possibility of PoE 2 was in a recent Fergus-Josh interview were Josh said "we'll try something like Baldur's 2; something familiar yet more exotic and unusual" or something like that. Didn't mention anything about continuing the watcher saga or whatever (although I'd like that! I want to port my character and continue the journey!). Hmmm, I guess it's less of a clear-cut thing then I thought at first, but: https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/82687-pillars-of-balancing/?p=1743981 http://www.pcworld.com/article/2886976/pillars-of-eternity-josh-sawyer-talks-mods-pc-first-focus-big-head-mode-and-more.html?page=2 One thing I could envision is the sequel allowing you to start from Level 1 with a new character, but pushing you through the first N levels very quickly in the intro/tutorial area. Just to make character creation less overwhelming for players who are new to the series. -
PoE 2.
Infinitron replied to tedmann12's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
One thing we definitely know about PoE 2 is that you will not start at level 1. I believe that will make it the first "high level campaign" RPG since Mask of the Betrayer. Yes, it's been a while. -

Camera angle in PoE vs BG2
Infinitron replied to Ineth's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Hmmm. Now that we have an exact measurement formula, I wonder whether all the Infinity Engine games used the same angle or could there be slight differences.
