  1. So this happened. Without a Vancian magic system you end up with a bunch of underpowered sorcerers running around spamming underpowered spells. It takes all strategic planning out of a magic system and turns it into a purely tactical one. Some people like it but I always thought it was lazy design. It also tends to lead to a spell progression where you upgrade your spells as opposed to getting new spells. Also lazy. The sheer number of spells in BGT is astounding and choosing which ones to memorize and when to use them was a ton of fun. And hello mana pool! I suppose this was expected when they talked about the soul thing. Of course I’m just speculating as nothing official has been announced. Anyway I'm just bitter because I really like IE magical combat and I think a game made in their image should have the same basic magic system. But what do I know.
  2. If I want to be a blacksmith I'll play a blacksmith RPG. Same for alchemy and enchanting. To be honest the only 'crafting' I really like in a RPG is like BG2 where you collect artifacts to enhance magical item. But you pay an expert to do it. I don't want to collect weeds. I don't want to haul around random crafting junk. I don't want to go to a magic table and walk away with phat lootz because I had random junk and random weeds in my inventory.
  3. If they want the big money they will make this wiedu compatible.
  4. I think what we need to do is keep romances real. And you know what's real? Herpes is real. STDs are the spice of any romantic relationship. Gonorrhea, syphilis, crabs - they all will add depth to any mature relationship.
  5. I'd like them to clarify what engine and whether they will be using per-rendered backgrounds like the IE games. They might have done this already but I don't know where. edit: also mod tools.
  6. Gay romance, straight romances, lesbian romances. You know what they all have in common? Herpes. Let’s make sure to have some STD in this baby.
  7. The only time I used the BG multiplayer was to make my entire party. I don't like anyone enough to spend 40-60 hours playing a game with them.
  8. Just use the classic IE inventory system. Everything takes one spot and you just need to worry about weight.
  9. This was a much better update than before but still important questions remain. The scaling question is a good one. And is the visual style confirmed as fixed isometric with painted 2d backgrounds? And the whole Soul based magic system really needs an explanation. Mana based? Vancian? An Arcane/Divine separation?
  10. I'd also pay $20 extra for the map. $140 is a bit to much.
  11. They say they are making the true spiritual successor of the IE games an that means fixed perceptive isometric view with 2D painted backgrounds. I personally believe the IE were the most beautiful RPGs ever made so I'm all for it. Of course if the developers ever decided to give some real info we would not need to speculate.
  12. UNbrofist. I am also disappointed, but to cancel and go to whine in the forums? You are not a man you are drama queen. Real men pack their stuff and go without a sound. 4/10
  13. Yeah but what does it mean? When the terms house or home are used I think of the crappy Skyrim money-sinks-without-any-substance-storage-sheds. If they called the strongholds like in BG2 or a Keep like NWN2 I would be much more optimistic.
  14. I assume you're coming to the conclusion that magic will be tied to our "souls", and thus you feel that such a mechanic is going to feel forced and contrived? I don't know about that. From what miniscule information we have, I'm getting the impression that mages in this game will be akin to Sorcerers in the old D&D games. if so, count me among the giddy. I LOVED playing sorcerers in the IE games. As I have admitted #6 in the OP was a bit inflammatory. Sorcerers were great but they had a choice of something like 200 spells. If the magic system is that diversified I will be ecstatic. Once again we need the info. They have it but do 't want to share.
  15. Agreed. Look who made that game. Look who's making this one. Lightning in a bottle. I'm not saying the devs are not good or that they are not trying. I just worry about what they are trying for.
  16. I love this qualifier.... Well PS:T is probably he greatest RPG ever made. If the NPCs in this game are even half as good as PS:T's were I will apologize for my outburst.
  17. Seriously Oldmanpaco I have no issue with constructive criticism or someone who wants to discuss issues. But do you know how stupid your post makes you look? You start with a belligerent and annoying title. The game was only announced days ago and some of your points are speculation You then claim you won't fund the game but expect answers, and yet you have the audacity to claim you aren't one of those "haters" and "kids" Why don't you stand by your convictions, leave the forum and find another RPG. After all Obsidian lied to you and this type of reaction is perfectly understandable? How do you expect people who think logically and rationally to react to your petulant outburst? Seriously...WTF Yeah Yeah. Like I said earlier I copied a post from a much more belligerent site because I couldn't be bothered to make a family friendly one. My mistake. That being said Obsidian 'promised' us all a throwback game to the IE days. And stretch goals are still part of the deal. I
