That catchphrase matches your glorious avatar. You know my avatar is kid of messed up here. It's irritating. -

6 mages, no pack mules. =D I suppose six is a given, Infinity Engine and all. Heh, 6 mages is too easy in the IE games. -

How about tasteful rape? Anyway 'Mature' is a buzzword that needs to die. -

5 or 6 work for me. But like Zed finally clarified it would depend on how classes are handled. I always like two grunts, a healer, two mages and a thief type. Good fun. -
Magic System
oldmanpaco replied to oldmanpaco's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I like the Vancian system primarily becase it encourages a wide variety of play styles and makes you plan ahead. If you have all your spells at your disposal where is the tactical thinking? And the more spells out there the more decisions you need to make which encourages the implemintation of extra spells. If this game doesn not come with over 200 spells I'm going to be pissed. How many times in the IE games did you pause to peruse your available spells, curse your lack of planning and then cast the most usfull spell availble. -

Level Cap
oldmanpaco replied to oldmanpaco's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I disagree. Chapter 2 in BG2 was the sweet spot of the whole series. -

Ah the 8 man party. Just like U4! -
It's been said that this game is (hopefully) 1st in a series. Is the leveling system being setup like BG/BG2/TOB where characters increase to a specific limit (based on content hopefully) then continue on in the next game or like IWD/IWD2 where the games are basically standalone and the characters get up to high levels in each game? Don't make it like W1/W2 where we just start back at a low level with the same character. That's some weak sh%t. BTW whats the language policy on this site? We family friendly?

Will the party system be like BG where people go to their own place when kicked out of the party and some will not come back or like NWN2 where the whole team hangs out at a camp. I hate the camp concept. I also hate it when people not in the active party get XP. Apparently drinking in a bar is just as rewarding as killing the obligatory rats in the basement.

So are there going to be specific character classes like BG/IWD or a more 'Be Anything' system like Fallout? I personally like classes. Also if you are having specific classes will they all level at the same rate. I loved the staggered leveling in BG and always find it irritating when everyone levels a the same time.

So in BG/BG2 the spell system evolved into a chess match (at least with mods installed) where your mages needed to protect your grunts while dispelling protections on opposing mages and fighters. The reason it got there was due to the vast number of spells in the D&D system. There was also a clear difference in divine/arcane spells with druid spells thrown in for good measure. The whole soul thing already seems sort of limiting to a magic system but do we think this game will manage to get to the same level of complexity and the same number of spells? One thing I hate are magic systems that level spells. A lvl 1 firebolt does 10 dmage while a lvlv 5 firebolt does 50 damage. Lazy game design if you ask me and I hope this game does not go down that route.

So the IE games have been thrown out as inspiration. Does this mean there is going to be a 6 person party like those games? What do people think the party size should be?
