  1. Source? http://blogjob.com/oneangrygamer/2015/03/divinity-original-sin-dev-talks-boob-plates-sexism-and-moral-outrage/ Read through it, can't find the reference to physical threats. Could you please point them out? It's pretty late here, and my text-parsing skill seems to have sufffered heavily.
  2. I think you forgot Larian and inExile.... ;-) Larian? Haven't you heard, they caved to SJW censorship too. The early concept art for the two Original Sin main characters had him in sensible armour and her in cleavage-y boobplate. When people complained about this, the art was changed so that both characters worse sensible armour. Or as sensible as armour ever gets in Larian games. All those spikes, man. Interesting, I liked the armor. ) That is sad to hear though. Guess it is just inExile.... Considering dev overlap and cooperation between Obsidian and InXile, I'd honestly be surprised if they'd have a significantly different company culture over there, come to think of it. Guess you could always play Shadowrun? Oh wait, they sent GGers away, too. How sad.
  3. Oh, right, that too. I even remember the artist whining about censorship. It was hilarious. I should toss some money at Larian's next KS, I guess.
  4. I think you forgot Larian and inExile.... ;-) Right. Larian. Masters of intricate storytelling. [/sarcasm] As for InXile, I'd rather wait and see how they fare with Torment before saying anything about them being a possible competitor. Found WL2 dreadfully dull, but then again, I find anything post-apocalyptic dreadfully dull.
  5. Nice move, Obsidian. Now my SJW-y acquaintances hate you for letting him play victim in the new epitaph, while the whiners who always cry "censorship" when someone bursts their comfortable little bubble of privilege hate you for changing the original. Personally, I think this whole thing could've been avoided with tighter control over backer material. Maybe then my eyes wouldn't bleed when reading the backer NPC stories either! Seriously though, I don't get those who have sworn off Obsidian games forever because of this thing. What are you gonna play now? Bioware games? Elder Scrolls? It's not like Obsidian has, like, any competitors at what they do.
  6. You hate them for all the reasons I love them! I don't hate them, I just see no reason for my character to want to travel with them. Even though there is a certain charm in the "He's a silver-tongued diplomat who can see ghosts! He's a foul-mouthed, omnicidal hobo with fire powers! Together, they fight crime!" setup.
  7. - I found Durance to be insufferable and Grieving Mother thoroughly creeped me out (no, ma'am, if you admit in our first conversation that you will mind control me into saving babies whether I like it or not, I will not want to have you in my party). Which is to say I'm utterly pumped to get to know them better on a replay, but they very much seem like a liability to my cautious and diplomatic paladin. - Sagani and Hiravias didn't even make it to my roster, they're pretty much perma-stranded at my stronghold. I'll use them on a replay. - Pallegina seems somewhat bland, but at least we're almost always in agreement, and she's an utter combat monster, so she stays. Also, points for diversity. - Aloth... I like Aloth. He feels like a real person and keeps interesting secrets. Not to mention that snooty elf wizards are always welcome, especially if they're fellow Aedyreans. I wonder if we'll do anything with his... allegiances down the line. - I also like Edér. He's a chill dude. Glad to have him have my back. - My personal favorite, however, is Kana Rua. He's such an adorable giant nerd. Who's also a shark person. With a gun. You can't really top that.
  8. No. Such a paragon of rationality indeed! Oh, you mean "@Obsidian No spine whatsoever - only a loud, fringe minority of thin-skinned crybabies were offended"? Because that's about the only not-very-polite quote aimed at Obsidian I found at your links. Okay, some people were also saying mean things about TotalBiscuit, but knowing the propensity of the man to weigh in discussions he knows nothing about with all the tact of an elephant in a china shop, that's hardly surprising (and also not very relevant to the issue of people reacting to Obsidian's handling of the matter). Did you just misquote me on purpose? That is just low. That "no" was clearly part of what followed. If you're going to act this way then I see absolutely no point in trying to discuss anything with you. ...Oh my, how serious. Positively grave. There was something about thicker skin? Something a certain crowd is very fond of espousing? If only I could remember what it was... Mockery aside, you failed to engage with my - admittedly flippant - attempt at understanding what you were talking about with "sides" and "gamergate". Which I found frustrating. Hence the reaction. But... I read through the quotes you linked. I think. I scrolled to the end, at least. At no point did I find any voice criticizing Obsidian hit a tone other than "this is a misstep I hope will be rectified, thanks in advance". Well okay, there were "this is very bad" and "I'm not going to buy the game" statements, too, but nobody was calling the devs spineless, which the other side did. Are you sure you copied the correct links?
  9. Okay so how about this. I'm Jewish, the stereotypes that modern Jewish jokes are based on essentially formed arguments that led to the murder of 6 million Jews. IE Jews are greedy, Jews have lots of money, Jews are deceptive etc. etc. Yet I would not want them to be censored because I know that a joke is not the same as actual hate speech. If actual hate speech against jews was common and encouraged by society (ie. if you actually lived in Nazi Germany), how would you feel about people making jokes about the jews? I think that's an extreme example because it's hard to imagine a Jewish joke in Nazi Germany NOT being hate speech. But let's be honest, modern day America is nowhere close to Nazi Germany when it comes to Trans people. Yes, there are still hateful bigots out there, but there aren't exactly death camps. Is discrimination only bad when it gets to the point of people getting put in death camps? Because let me tell you, trans people have it really, really bad even though they're not being gassed to death. I must admit that you are a very good demagogue. You manipulated him very skillfully. [snip] Erm... thank you, I guess? I'm not sure why it's manipulation to point out that people can face serious discrimination without being sent to death camps, and jokes in certain contexts - such as against groups of people who face aforementioned discrimination - can be seen as punching down, regardless of authorial intent. But okay, I'm now officially a Skillful Manipulator, which I shall wear as a badge of honor. As for the rest of your post, the nazi comparison wasn't really brought up by me, so I'm not really sure what you wanted to achieve by that.

  11. That's a pretty good idea, annoying backer NPCs are annoying. And even though their name-plate-thingies have pretty distinct coloring, in certain lighting conditions, I still managed to confuse them with actual NPCs, causing me to waste valuable seconds on exiting the conversation menu. Such miserable existence!
  12. ...And I suppose you expect me to take your word on this over my personal experience with the critics' group because you have been such a paragon of rational thinking, right? ...Well this part was... something. About something, I'm sure. There were words. On my screen. That's pretty much all I can tell. Mind injecting a bit of coherence here?
  13. Was it, though? Because from what I've seen, people were politely pointing out their concerns, Obsidian said they were looking into it, aaand... that's pretty much it. I literally can't find anything more harsh than "this joke is vaguely tasteless, you might want to look into it". But for some reason, this prompted others to start wailing on and on about censorship and evil SJWs making mountains of molehills. Also, harrassment. Bandwagoning indeed.
  14. Hm, you seem to be right, there doesn't seem to be any more reliable source than "internet people said this is the case". Sawyer seemed to be sympathetic to the issue, but the final verdict is "We are going to be talking with our backers about this issue in our next backer update. They are the ones that made Eternity possible, so we feel it is our duty to discuss it with them first." Which is... reasonable, although I still think it's an issue strictly between the backer who submitted the epitaph and the devs.

  16. I'm not sure what your point is. Also, you should be legally forbidden from ever using the word "fallacy" until you learn what they are and why is it useful to have a working knowledge of them My poiny being that your argument didn't have on. What I replied to had no bearing on the discussion what so ever and was simply an appeal to emotion. I fully understand the wording and so far what I've seen the most is simple bandwagoning. As to trading insults, well you can surely keep doing it if you so wish. Just don't drag me into it. No, I mean, what was your point with the statement "a lot of people find a lot of content offensive; media doesn't have to conform to them"? Case seems pretty clear-cut: somebody politely pointed out that the limerick is kinda problematic, Obsidian almost immediately responded by contacting the backer who submitted it and asking him whether he's cool with its removal, he said yes, so it's probably going to be removed. At least this is what I've heard. So what exactly is the point of pointing out that media doesn't have to conform to people who find content offensive? Is conforming to the wishes of opressed groups inherently bad and they should stop doing it? Also, I don't think it's insulting to point out that a working knowledge of fallacies is generally best used to check one's own logical processes, not to use it as a bludgeon in internet arguments.

  19. ...And you don't think that trans people may be better suited to judging whether a transphobic joke is indeed transphobic or not? I would agree with this. But I would also think that a priest is well qualified to determine what is offensive to religious people, a 45 year old soccer mom is well qualified to determine what's offensive to mothers, yet I wouldn't want them removing offensive content everywhere. Except, y'know, when priests or soccer moms voice their concerns over content being offensive to their peer group, the internet hate mob doesn't descend on them and dig through their facebook photos to mock them for not being feminine enough, which is a thing that happened to the person who complained about the limerick. Or so I've heard. What does that have to do with anything? I mean, it sucks sure, I don't endorse it, but it's completely irrelevant to whether the joke should be removed or not isn't it? It's a very specific gendered sort of harrassment that kind of proves her point (ie. transphobia generally being a thing), which is where the difference from, say, Jack Thompson lies.

Or so I've heard. But, y'know, transphobia totally isn't real.
  21. ...And you don't think that trans people may be better suited to judging whether a transphobic joke is indeed transphobic or not?
  22. ...Since when is "dark content" offensive? How can you not see that some people will find dark content offensive? There are people whom are easily shocked by elements such as those shown in PoE. And I think brushing off concerns of transphobia with "well, the game also has 'dark content' in it, so your complaint is invalid!" is missing the point, to put it lightly. What matters is not whether sensitive subjects are present, but how they're handled.
  23. Me too. It's such an amazing game, even if it sometimes takes ages for me to get it to work on my well below minimum rig. ...Kinda disagree. Elmshore theme is great, and the strings in the opening give me the chills, but otherwise meh. I would've appreciated a Watcher/Memories of a Distant Life/Thaos theme building on those sorrowful opening notes (also present in that scene right before the end of act 2), which could play during the flashbacks. Agreed on all accounts. I also love how much characters of the same class can be differentiated from each other, how attribute-unlocked dialogue options are not always the optimal choice, the sheer reactivity of it, and the combat in general. Which is surprising, since I generally prefer to resolve matters peacefully.
