What do you think of Darth Sion?
SmkJaguar replied to Retnuh's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Actually, I think he's evil because he's falling apart (or rather because of the circumstances surrounding how he came to be in that state). Someone obviously did a number on him, and he's been nursing a galactic-sized grudge ever since. As for his get-up, my guess is it causes him more than the usual discomfort (and it looks like he'd be in continual agony - I figure kind of like being dunked into acid or lava) if anykind of clothing was in direct contact with his skin (over a large area at any rate). Sounds like he has no trouble shaking off weapon hits, though. And if he can dish out even half the amount of punishment that he seems capable of, then that first encounter against him is likely going to be quite rough. I wouldn't be surprised if some NPC needs to jump in and save the party's bacon from the fire. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if it was Atton Rand (sp?) that does it . -
I don't know about any of the three being 'manlier' or more 'masculine' than the other. But I do know who of them garners my full attention. After Malak wiped out a significant portion of Taris, he instantly became (at least on surface appearances) the most dangerous and imbalanced of the three. And after pulling the same stunt on Dantooine, he became (in my eyes) Public Enemy # 1. Saul was just a toady, who I saw as likely to die anyways. My PC wasn't about to strike him down, but I figured Carth would if given the chance (guess he isn't such a wimp after all, if he's willing to waste a guy after he's been downed <_< ). But luckily for him, Saul bit the big one on his own. And as for Atton, (I haven't seen a pic of him, or if I have, haven't identified it as him) that 'shirt-lifter' impression might just be a ploy. I think he's the dude that starts off with you at the beginning (as in showing up ala Morte [PS:Torment], in the 'Hawk). Which leads me to question his abilities and true allegiance. For all we know he could be a Sith agent or one of the Sith Lords himself (damn, I'm starting to sound like Carth! - and despite all that, I have to be mindful that his instincts are sharper than most people give credit for. His initial suspicions were largely dead on after all in KotOR  ).

What your looking forward to

Did he(?) ever actually do anything other than splice that door on Taris? I remember getting him, and just kind of leaving him in my roster for most of the game. Although I did take him along after acquiring HK-47(sp?). I just couldn't resist the opportunity that some acidic dialogue between the two would crop up (and I wasn't disappointed either ). That and the cut scene after the Leviathan when you ask T3-M4 about his thoughts (and Mission's quip afterwards) made me wonder if he bothered to start up a dialogue with anyone (or if anyone other than HK would start up with him). I had him at times in my party for considerable lengths of time, and there would be nothing but silence, unless I chose to engage him in some small talk. Oh, and this is off track, but I figure Carth isn't so bad. I mean I probably would have thought little on the matter, except that when we were about to take on Davik, Canderous and Carth start up . The timing couldn't have been better, and the exchange made me laugh. If Carth is quick witted enough to score a couple of zingers off of Canderous (and still stay standing), he's alright in my books . So I guess that leads up to another of my hopes. More inter-NPC random dialogue, with more dialogue hopefully triggered by certain party combinations at certain trigger points in the game. And with T3-M4 in, hopefully this time he'll heed my request and occassionally jump in with something to say (even if it's just beeping and whistling an undecipherable question or some encouragement). -
What do you think of Darth Sion?
SmkJaguar replied to Retnuh's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I read somewhere that he kicks some serious @$$ the first time you meet him. As long as that's true, he can wear pink ribbons, leotards and a tutu for all I care (admittedly being humbled by such a caricature would likely be more traumatizing ). [Edit] Of course, if the 3rd Sith Lord (or even the masked Sith Lord: or both! :D ) is/are some blazingly hot, gorgeous babe(s), then: [1]I'll get to feed them that David Duchovny(sp?)/Fox Mulder(sp?) line from that videgame chick girl X-files episode: "I bet you think you're gonna kick my @$$ up and down this street." [2] At which point she (they) probably will kick my PC's @$$ up and down the street - just like the aforementioned X-files episode - and I'll probably enjoy seeing it about as much as the aforementioned X-files episode . [More Edits: some changes to argument ] -
What would you like to see next?
SmkJaguar replied to Topaz Quasar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I'd say the rest of the game, but I'm pretty sure that doesn't qualify as an update <_< . The option's not even included in your poll . In fact what would be just as good (although it would be about as probable as my first option) would be an official announcement stating world wide release the very next day (that counts as an 'update' doesn't it? ). -
Theories on the masked sith guy!
SmkJaguar replied to Stargate: 2000's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I was struck with a thought, remember how in KotOR, Revan's memories were seeping back? What if at the end of KotOR he got 'em all back, and whether he (she?) became good or fell back to evil, would remember why he turned bad in the first place. I mean all we saw was bits and pieces of him discovering about the Rakatan (sp?) and their technology, but I doubt that alone would have been sufficient to corrupt him to the Dark Side. There was likely something else involved. Maybe the Sith Lords have some relation to what turned him. In fact it would be kind of cool if Darth Revan is the reason why Sion is the way he is (I can't seem to shake the notion that it was Revan who took Malak's jaw - simply because Revan as Darth Revan was one vicious b@$t@rd! ). I just don't believe that the lure of the Star Forge was what pushed Revan over. Remember at the time of the discovery he assumed it was just an uber war factory that could churn out war machines continuously and indefinitely. It was Malak who unlocked the key (although all I have to go on is what Malak says cause my PC certainly doesn't remember that! ). Presumably Revan was trained as a Jedi since birth, and passed the trials, which are indicators that he is probably as far from the definition of "weak-willed" as possible. And even a taste of the Dark Side would be unlikely to affect him. He would have had to willingly "... embrace the Dark Side for it to dominate his destiny" (seemingly). Anyways, the point I'm trying to make is that Revan's flashbacks in KotOR seemed to simply record the journey down the Dark path, not the reason for him to start it. I'm hoping KotOR 2 will come back full circle and show us why he did the things he did, not just how and where. Cause I look back at my PC, then I look at Darth Revan, and they are two completely different characters. Where Revan strove for control, my PC would struggle for understanding. Where he gave in to impulse, my PC would strive for restraint. The times he would most likely show scorn and contempt, my PC would have expressed compassion. Where he would carry himself with pride, my PC would have carried himself with humility. I noted the same divergence in characters in Planescape:Torment (finally finished it after tearing myself away from Neverwinter Nights, and I have to admit, PS' story completely blows away every other RPG out there - at least the one's that use the amnesia gimmick). I remember that skull dude ... Morte? - I always wondered if that was short for Mortimer - ... commenting on the contrasts between my current and past incarnations. I also remember talking to the good dude and thinking his reason for being was something I could strongly relate with. Anywho, back to KotOR, I recall that same feeling that I got with PS just after the Leviathan sequence and Mission saying something to a similar effect. And I remember thinking, "damn, these guys just instantly grew on me (I mean I liked 'em before, but now they're like a virtual family ... umm... pun unintended? ), I'm gonna be seriously pissed  if any of them gets KOed on my watch." That brings up another issue. I can't for the life of me figure out why my character would have sat out in the outer reaches of the galaxy while a massive war raged. My dude would have jumped right in and did what he could to help (even if it was just little things like jumping in front of a Mandalorian/Sith and deflecting blaster bolts away from defenseless individuals B) ). Hopefully during the course of KotOR 2 a satisfactory (I'll even settle for viable if that's the best they can come up with <_< ) explanation as to that particular occurrence. -
Theories on the masked sith guy!
SmkJaguar replied to Stargate: 2000's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I think the masked dude (dudette?) could be either male or female. I remember Revan as a dude. Found out later Revan's gender depended on the gender of your PC. Can't really tell under that get-up (could be over-sized gauntlets or something). I mean why else would they ask you if Revan was male or female? The answer must carry some weight. I wonder if they'll ask you what avatar you picked for the PC (figure they might if they ask about Revan's gender). Heck, they may even ask you what your PC's name was in KotOR (the other name, the one we got to choose ). All of which should come as a warning that we'll be encountering a very familar face during the game (whether or not it's one of the Sith Lords). Doubtless, they'd ask some probing questions about Bastila as well. Of course the real shocker could be that we end up with our old role with another round of amnesia (how else would we be on the 'Hawk, when we'd have no real business being there - at least I read somewhere we'd start off on the 'Hawk). Although that kind of deja vu (or lack thereof <_< ) I would rather do without. But if they decide to pull that stunt again, I'll just go along for the ride (again) and see where it takes me . -
I dismissed the inconsistency myself on the count that I couldn't stop laughing. Even recalling it now puts a grin on my face . [Edit] Actually that brings up another question, will there be more of the same humour? I mean I can't even remember all the time I spent laughing at some of the wicked exchanges the characters had. Even the options I didn't take were funny enough just reading them, the consequences were dire enough for most of them. The one that floored me though, was when (if you're using a male PC) Bastila drags you to the ****pit of the 'Hawk and starts with the melodrama. Near the end of her spiel you can drop the bombshell: "... Sorry Bastila, that starship won't fly." I didn't even get a chance to pick the line before I fell off my chair laughing. Of course I figured she would whack me to the deck, so I decided to play it safe  . Found out later, she's more in control of her emotions (or at least her reflexes) than I thought. I hear (or rather read somewhere) that the person who's doing up the dialogue is putting more of an edge to the humour.

What your looking forward to
SmkJaguar replied to Darth Ravok's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
None of the above, I'm really looking forward to getting my head handed back to me on the tip of Sion's sabre the first time I encounter him . I'm also counting on the opportunity to pay him back in spades on the rematch. B) That and crossing swords with the other Sith Lords just so I can touch my inner child and relive those first moments when I first saw Darth Vader grace the screen  . -
Theories on the masked sith guy!
SmkJaguar replied to Stargate: 2000's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
You know, it's conceivable that the masked dude is Revan (whose gender may or may not be changeable) and the other could be Bastila (unless she was killed - she could be killed right? I never had the heart to explore that option ). I mean, they (the Devs) could hit us with a double-whammy at the end. With the masked dude revealing himself (or herself) as Revan, and Bastila coming to stand by his (her?) side. I know I'd be like ... F!!!, the S!!! has hit the fan now! Just a thought  . -
Okay, there was one thing that seriously bugged me in KotOR, and that was those blasted (and dreaded) "Instant Death Triggers". The first was when I tried to wipe the floor with ... what was that guy's name? ... Calo Nord? The bounty hunter dude that counts to three and wastes people (*grumble* b@$t@rd's lucky he didn't pull that stunt when he was with Davik  , or maybe I'm the lucky the one! ). Anywho the other was bull rushing the Sand People's front door (what's the point if we can't engage in a little bust-the-front-door-down-I'm-gonna-go-nuclear-on-y'all action B) ). And the last that I remember was the Krayt (sp?) Dragon (hey, I wanted to mount that thing's head in my cabin in the 'Hawk - doubt it would fit, but I wanted the option of trying ... ). I was thinking that battle would have rocked, but all I get was some cheesy death scene. Well, to cut my ranting short; will those "Instant Death" bits be in SW:KotOR? I found them to be annoying, but I could see why some parts may be necessary. I mean if they didn't put that in - and I aced that bounty hunter in the cantina - than I wouldn't have got that hilarious exchange between him and Malak (sp?). [Malak?] A Jedi and a war hero? It's a wonder you survived the encounter. (I guess my character was just "pepper in the stew" <_< ) [Nord?] I'm hard to kill Lord Malak.

The Sith are the poor man's Empire
SmkJaguar replied to Ivan the Terrible's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
This has nothing to do with the topic at hand, but the 25K year old Republic thing bugs me, too. I know it's a tad ludicrous to apply Real World political science to the freaking Star Wars Galaxy, but it's a bad habit I can't rid of and which bugs me in the course of the game. Multi-national countries tend to be really, really unstable. Different ethnic groups want more representation for themselves, want independent countries where their own concerns come first, want to dominate other ethnic groups or avoid being dominated by them. Eventually, the pressure of all that causes them to fall apart, whether it's in five years or 100 years. I think that's because the logic is in human terms. And we can't even be sure the humans of SW are the same kind of humans that we are. After all SW is a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away (or something like that). And when you throw high technology, aliens with lifespans that exceed several centuries (although it's by no means certain that Yoda's extreme longevity is common, the point remains is that it exists, and is largely acknowledged by his fellow Jedi and good portion of the galaxy at large), and a largely unifying religion that has access to identifiable and readily recognizable miracle feats (the Force), a civilation spanning tens of thousands of years really isn't all that far fetched. For the above point, I would refer to that unifying religion thing. Even the Dark Jedi and Sith 'worship' the Force. Difficult to discount a religion when a practitioner force chokes you <_< as a physical demonstration (although that's more of a Sith thing, the Jedi would likely just jump between the antagonists and ignite his sabre if things got ugly). Accordingly, people would likely give a large measure of respect to others, even when differing in opinion (even a Jedi's presence can be intimidating, so it's best to keep arguments very civil  ). Also, the humans of SW seem to be on average, far more enlightened. Must be a product of their advanced technology. That and the Jedi. And with the Jedi presence, civilization has a stabilizing factor, although the Sith, while in hiding, have done all they can destabilize the situation. Besides, if the Republic has been around for 1000 yrs, that would mean Yoda's been around for the vast majority of it. His immediate forbear would have been there to witness the birth of the Republic and would likely have influenced it greatly (when these Yoda types have something to say, everyone generally stops and listens - at least that's been my impression). In anycase, I favour the 25k version, makes the SW universe more mythical (which is what was seemingly intended in the first place, considering the "thousand generations" line was given in ANH). I sincerely hope Yoda isn't the last of his kind. It just isn't SW without some Yoda type around. Which is kind of funny, considering The Movie that touched off the phenomenon had no mention of Yoda (maybe that's why I favour the other two of the OT). In fact it just isn't SW unless there's a Jedi around B) . Of course, this is from a guy (being me) who generally has his heads in the clouds (or spends entirely too much time indoors  ), I think a little romantic idealism is excusable. -
Oh well, since the other thread's locked anyways, may as well post another question here. I've been wondering, there are 3 Sith Lords in this game, right? Will one of them be Revan? Is it even a possibility? I don't keep up with the gaming news, and I am not going to wade through a bazillion posts (despite having a search function that can cut through a lion's share of garbage - I'm just too lazy :D ). {Aside: Besides, I feel it's Obsidian's fault for putting that dinky level thing in. Now people are tempted to post nonsense just to earn some seniority ... Or is that how that level thing works? } I think it would be cool if he (or she) is the head honcho. It would be surreal facing Revan at the finale of KotOR 2:TSL. And also a mark of pride to see Revan has made it to the top (albeit the top of the Dark Side). I wonder if I'd even be able to strike him down if he is at the finale. {Aside: I wonder if I could bring myself to, even if I was able ...} [Me] Walking up a metal walkway to the last Sith Lord's throne. The throne turns and a Vader-esque figure rises and gazes steadily down as the PC halts and looks up. The figure removes his (her) mask ... [Me] "It's you .... I never thought it would come to this (shakes head sadly) ... I've come too far, and there's no turning back." [Revan] "....." Heck, I think there's possibilities even if he isn't one of the Sith Lords.
-
Darn, I'm always the last one to find out about anything. I wonder if the PC avatar will be height adjustable then. Doesn't seem likely .
-
Thanks for the heads up. So ... is this thread dead or what?
-
Okay, I posted this in another thread where it seems unlikely it'll be seen by anyone that cares (at least while this weekend thread is alive at any rate). So I figured I'll try out that multi-quote thing they have going on in this forum:
-
I'm wondering if we can pick an alien race for the PC. I'm leaning towards the Jawa Jedi thing. I mean they've already got the stylin' robes ...
-
I'm sure this has been covered somewhere else, but I'm too lazy to execute a search :D . I'm wondering if one of the requirements to become a Jedi Master will be the training of an apprentice to Jedi Knight status. Presumably the Sith would have a similar restriction before attaining the title of Sith Master. If that's the case it would be entertaining to take on a padawan and train them to pass the trials. The interaction with an NPC apprentice could add considerable depth to the game. I have to admit, I found Episode I's most enjoyable moments to be when Qui Gon (sp?) and Obi-wan (sp?) were in action (or even just talking) together. In fact, the other side of the coin could be just as entertaining. SWKotOR had that training session but it was too short for my tastes. Being a Jedi apprentice with no master kind of sucked (although that short narrative and the conversations with the Masters on the council were enjoyable enough). Which brings up something else, I thought Padawan=apprentice? Aren't they supposed to award you the title of "Jedi Knight" after you pass the trials? Someone's gonna mention some kind of source material or junk <_< , but I don't buy that 4000 yrs routine. After all, the Jedi have been around for at least 25 000 yrs (I'm guessing it was considerably longer, considering they were Defenders of the Republic for 1000 generations). And the fundamentals behind their order wouldn't seem likely to change over the course of several thousand years considering that Jedi living 800+ years isn't unheard of (you'd figure there's at least a couple of those Yoda-types at any point in the last 25 000 yrs, otherwise we wouldn't likely have Yoda in the SW movies ). On a tangent, Jedi get the Jedi Knight title after passing the trials, but the Sith seem to jump to Dark Lord (or Darth?) of the Sith. Oh one other thing. It's been stated that the PC starts off as a Jedi, I'm guessing we start off as an apprentice prior to taking on the trials. If that's the case, I wonder who our master will be? I wouldn't mind being a padawan to Master Vandar. Heck, I'd settle for being an apprentice to that antagonistic fellow on the Jedi Council (his name escapes me at the moment, but he was the one that was unusually hostile to the PC in SWKotOR - although we find out later why). Actually, I think the opportunity for some humour would result with that kind of pairing. Which brings up another question. Will we be seeing any of the council members? I suppose at the beginning of the game, we'll find out how many of the Jedi on the Council survived (I'm hoping all of them, that Twi-lek (sp?) Jedi Master was pretty cool).
