With everything that's happened, and promises to happen in KotOR2, I feel I'm gonna need Mission's optimistic outlook to get through some of the darker moments. She may not have been anykind of powerhouse back in KotOR, but I have to admit, when it counted she provided a boost to flagging spirits (at least I found her to be entertaining). Besides, half the people in the Galaxy in KotOR were powerhouses in one way or another, it was a nice change of pace for me to have Mission's character stand out simply because she was so upbeat (rather than have her noticed because of her combat prowess - which could be considerable if she was trained properly).

You know, they should add in a blooper feature, where they give us the choice of "re-living" some of our more humiliating moments. On second thought, maybe keeping a record isn't such a good idea after all.

About taking on a Jedi Apprentice

I wonder if the Disciple=Carth's Son (Dustil)? Probably not... -
True, but I can't help but feel resentment because people have to suffer from the bureaucrats' poor judgement. Ah well, all in the name of entertainment.
-
Failing that, at least give us some more entertaining death scenes. If we can't be rewarded for being Sadistically Evil, at least we can be amused by being Recklessly Foolhardy (or maybe that's rewarding us for being Sadistically Evil by forcing our characters to be Recklessly Foolhardy).

Great, now we have to perform CPR on the Galaxy. Is it me, or is the Republic constantly needing help from other sources? Small wonder they keep turning to the Jedi. I'm tempted to throw in the towel on the Republic score and strike out on my own. Who knows that if we fix the situation, the Republic won't go ahead and screw it up again (in fact we can be assured that they will). I think they're far too bureaucratic for the good of the Galaxy. Can't rely on them for anything ... (grumbling) <_< The above only applies to the Republic Government though, not the general population (whom I'd gladly do my utmost to defend, including, but not limited to, throwing whatever wrench I can into the Sith Lords plans - although, I'm gonna need to find some steadfast allies first).

About taking on a Jedi Apprentice
SmkJaguar replied to SmkJaguar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I'm not really sure myself, other than to say that kumquatq3 is probably right. Visiting the "Official" site and listening to her while answering those questions had some impact. Especially her last question, even though she doesn't voice the question itself, there's something vindictive in the way it's presented. Also, what little I know of our expected encounter with Kreia leads me to suspect that she's a rather calculating individual, but also strongly influenced by her emotions. She seems too ready to "assist" us with the rediscovery of our abilities. That, coupled with whatever grudge she may have against the Sith Lords, with Sion in particular, feels like she's simply training us to throw us at the Dark Lords. Even her telepathic bonding feels more like an attempt to influence us in that direction, rather than any genuine concern she may have for us. That bit about her willing to sacrifice herself for us doesn't help, it seems she just wants to ensure her investment in us isn't wasted. Kreia kind of strikes me as a Jolee type, without the good-natured humour, and without having made peace with her past. She may be undertaking our training to make up for a past failure. I look at her avatar and match it with her voice, and I can't help but think "Vima Da Boda", or whatever her name is (that lost Jedi in the EU that fell because her daughter was killed, or something). At least Jolee voluntarily left the order, Kreia seems like she fell out of favour. Then again, all of the above is simply a first impression, and if there's anything I've learned to disregard, it's first impressions. Especially when mine often come out wrong  . -
I had multiple play throughs, but it wasn't because I was trying out different characters. As pathetic as it sounds, it was because I kept killing off my one character doing pretty stupid things (multiple times, continuously at that). The highlight of which was watching myself on a video monitor and "overloading the power conduit" :"> " . How many other times did I die? Let me list the ways: Confronting Calo Nord in the Lower Level Cantina (Jabbyar's?) and getting the "Count of Three" treatment. Thinking I'm superman and rushing the turrets in the Black Vulkar's (sp?) base. Meeting Calo again, up in the ruined apartments. More conduit overloading, I did it at least once to myself at each terminal, just to see if just this once, something else would happen " (ever see a guy insisting on pushing a door that says "pull"? ) More turret rushing at various points of the game. Losing the Racing sequences on Taris a couple times. Getting blasted to smithereens by those blasted Sith Fighters (oh I learned to hate that turret mini-game, eventually got decent at it, but not before getting vaporised more times than I care to remember) Getting caught by the Selkaath, and stuck in that death chamber (I probably died, like, 20 times in there). Getting eaten by sharks underwater (many times). Getting eaten by that "Progenitor" (many times). Insisting on trying to take on everything and everyone, despite multiple warnings (the Krayt Dragon was probably one of the more humiliating moments " ). Using a fire grenade on that acid lake on Korriban, even after knowing that the ice bomb was the right choice. Saying the wrong things to those Rakattan (sp?) at that temple while I was stuck in their energy field. Several other death scenes that, at this point, would be chucking pebbles after an avalanche  Looking at the above, I have to admit, I'm one recklessly brash idiot. And I'm supposedly the Galaxy's last hope? (My PC's probably cursing the Fate that's guiding him ) Hmmmm, if the Sith Lords knew this, I wonder if they'd still be actively trying to get me to join them?

About taking on a Jedi Apprentice
SmkJaguar replied to SmkJaguar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Well, there is that bit where she makes a comment (a wisecrack?) about your clothing (or lack thereof). And there's also the bit where she's hiding, feigning death no less. She also seems to have an unreasoning hate (from what I could gather, but that could be put down to misinformation) for the Sith. I don't know about her being wise, I'd say she's pragmatic (when it suits her). But she seems to be lacking a certain Jedi quality that I can't put my finger on. Other than to say that she gives me the impression of being unreliable. My guess is she's overly vulnerable to her own emotions (emotions she seems to want to push onto the player), but I won't know for sure until much later. I've heard mention that she's a Fallen Jedi. If that's the case, perhaps it would be best that she reconciles her personal demons first, before she decides to undertake the training of another. I'm thinking this telepathic thing with her is gonna be mighty "icksome". Me (to Kreia): Lady, I've got enough skeletons in my closet, without having to deal with yours! -
Will there be TV spots/commercials
SmkJaguar replied to mace mandu's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I remember seeing a KotOR spot waaaaayyy back when ... It was a commercial spot during the previews for a movie (don't remember which movie I was seeing at the time though). If I recall correctly, it started off with some guy in Jedi gear and a lightsaber (either blue or green, can't quite remember) in a 'ready' stance. The guy is spinning, while the camera is circling him, and he changes from lightside to darkside. There was a voiceover saying something about choosing the Light or Darkside. Of course my memory may be corrupted by recent trailers of KotOR2, but I also seem to recall a few short scenes from the final battle sequence (where the Republic Battle Fleet is engaging the Sith Armada - however the Star Forge isn't included in the segments). I think they showed some in-game action aswell, but it's been too long ago for me to remember specific details. Oh well, the original "theatrical" trailer for KotOR is probably around somewhere. -
KotORs Anonymous? Count me in. :D

I'll probably visit Dantooine at the first opportunity. However, I get the feeling I'm gonna be depressed that the Academy is in ruins (or possibly even wiped clean of the planet). I wonder if the Star Map computers are still operational throughout the Galaxy. I'm curious about whether the Dantooine "temple" (that housed the Star Map piece) is still operational.

About taking on a Jedi Apprentice

Under ordinary circumstances, that would be true. But who knows what Obsidian is willing to try? In anycase, even if Carth isn't trainable, I still feel we may end up getting stuck with him (or his son - or both! *horrified*) unless Revan's a DarkSide Lady that killed off Carth and his son, Dustil. Uggg, Kreia, Carth, and Dustil? Thank the Devs that only 2 NPCs can be with the PC at any one time (excluding cutscenes). Although, there are times where we're split off from the PC and take control of other characters. I wonder if, in those instances, we still get a full party complement with random conversations still triggering. -
Some time ago, it was mentioned that we'd be able to take on an apprentice from one of the cast. At the time, the feeling was that it would be limited to the new characters of TSL. However, I have often wondered what it would be like if we were able to choose one of the returning characters from KotOR. Lately, I've been struck with a thought, that Carth might be trainable. The first reaction I had was, "there's gonna be alot of people who will probably think 'great, as if the Galaxy needed another whiny, preachy, self-important Jedi' <_< ." Me, I'm kinda neutral to the idea: *shrugs* give him a lightsaber and toss him to the sharks. If he manages to serve up some sharkfin soup I'll be impressed. Otherwise, no big loss. Then again, I can't shake this feeling that the characters I would like to train won't be selectable (perhaps not even joinable), while the rabble left over would hardly be worth the effort. More than that, I get the feeling we're gonna get stuck with characters from KotOR that we'd rather not associate with any longer than necessary (it seems we've already got more than a handful of new headaches to deal with). If they (the Devs) end up shoving Carth down my throat, along with Kreia (one or the other is fine, but I draw the line at both  ), I'm gonna be one unhappy gamer . I do not want to get stuck in an argument raging between those two!

In Depth Character Creation
SmkJaguar replied to Swede Pylika's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
You may have something there. The thing that initially repelled me from Planescape: Torment, was the fact that the main player character was already "pre-generated" (at least in the sense of his appearance and voice). I was thinking, damn that's a really messed-up-looking dude (without even bothering to learn why he should be so). After a few years I finally bit the bullet and bought the game (kept seeing all these comments on the Bioware boards at the time that gave it high recommendations that were widely acknowledged), but still ended up shelving it for several months (bought it just before NWN came out, I think). But after awhile, I decided to give PS a go, and wasn't disappointed (only finished it earlier this year, I believe). I believe that forcing a role on the audience may not go over well initially if they expect otherwise (so it may actually hurt opening sales). But in the long run, the story may benefit from it (especially through word of mouth, but that may not be enough to sustain the developers et al). I certainly enjoyed PS, despite not being able to customize my character's appearance. -
PRIMA Strategy Guide for KotOR2
SmkJaguar replied to SmkJaguar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Some one's probably gonna get the guide on Nov 30, and end up quoting whole sections of it just to wreck it for Xbox and PC gamers alike (almost a week ahead of the general public even getting a chance to start). I'm thinking the Spoiler section should go up on the 29th. But I don't think even that measure will be enough. -
I sense a Disturbance in the Force ...
SmkJaguar replied to SmkJaguar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Thanks for clearing that bit up, jaguars4ever. I haven't managed to find that pre-order offer elsewhere (not that I'm inclined to look that hard). Must be a relatively new deal, I suspect the other game dealers will offer it soon (unless Lucas Arts is seriously pushing for exclusivity). [edit: a lot of them still seem in the dark as to the "exact" date, one even went so far as to announce it as "estimated release date", giving Dec 6, not very encouraging - you'd figure this stuff would have been sorted out by now *shrugs*] -
I sense a Disturbance in the Force ...
SmkJaguar replied to SmkJaguar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
No, I mean the flash portion of the "Official KotOR 2" site. It still reads pre-order coming soon. [Edit: unless they're being lazy and aren't bothering with the flash portion anymore ...] [Edit2: that t-shirt seems to be only available for those who pre-order the US X Box version through the Lucas Arts site, although I only checked the EB site to compare against] -

SmkJaguar replied to SmkJaguar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Hey, I'd just like to know who missed that part of the site. It is after all, the one that seemingly should have the link updated (the site's more polished, so I ended up ignoring the "other" one). [edit: I wonder how long it'll take them to notice ... strange that they have chronicles updated, but overlooked the store link] -

Try the other site, the one with the flash stuff. You'll notice that it says pre-order coming soon. -

So then, they just forgot to tie the link to the Store section of the main site. Hmmm... Interesting, wonder who was responsible for that oversight? If it was one that is... [edit: pre-order only seems good for X-Box ] -
I Dont Like The Darker Theme
SmkJaguar replied to XboxSithLord's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Fear of Failure? That's a devastating blow to a would be hero. Self-doubt and misplaced guilt have undone some of the most promising of individuals. Hopefully Revan hasn't turned into an emotional wreck. But I'm gonna do my best to gather his old buddies from KotOR, ostensibly for leads on finding Revan, but really for insurance just to show there are still people that think highly of him. Well enough to drop what they're doing and join a tortured soul (I'm guessing our TSL character is gonna have some Dark Secret either weighing on his shoulders, or darkening his Destiny - the Devs have stated as much) who's seeking their old friend . -

This message would probably be better served being posted on the Lucas Arts forum. I wonder if anyone over there has noticed the situation. That is if there is a situation to notice ... Anyone here registered over at LA forums? Maybe you can be our proxy and bring our concerns to light over there? -
I sense a Disturbance in the Force ...
SmkJaguar replied to SmkJaguar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I'm afraid I have to disagree. When it happened to us, it was the worst thing ever perpetrated in this industry. But if it happens to you guys, then that's just comedy gold. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Poetic justice is one thing, and spite is quite another (although, it seems one often is the result of the other). As much as I'm jealous of the fact that US X-box users will (may?) get the game first, I can't begrudge them that. I'll be happy enough once I get my hands on the PC version when it comes out (however long that takes ... ) -

There's still the fact that their pre-order shop isn't up. I guess that could be explained away by technical glitches. But glitches that last a month or more? It seems that Lucas Arts (LA) isn't willing to put themselves on the hook like Sony Online Entertainment (? SOE). What with that EQ2 collector's edition trouble (I was surprised when I checked EB games site and saw that the EQ2 CE was removed-they put it back, though, a couple weeks later). Of course, that's more of a distribution thing ... Hmmm ... Could LA be stalling the pre-order site, just so they won't get into that kind of hot water. If so, they feel that it's a concern, there is something that could potentially threaten the release date ...
