I Dont Like The Darker Theme
SmkJaguar replied to XboxSithLord's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I like it Dark, just not TOTALLY Dark. It seems that all hope is lost now, with little chance that the Galaxy can see a brighter future. At this point it seems more like a desperate fight for survival, rather than a crusade to save the Galaxy. The Enemy seems unified to a cause and purpose, while the Republic has been shattered and reeling. It's no longer a contest between Good & Evil, it's a full-blown rout, with the Good Guys not only on the run, but getting butchered as they turn to flee (picture ESB, but none of the Rebel defenders survive to make it off Hoth). I'd prefer it if there was still a Galaxy left to save. With allies still strong and able, yet battling a Darkness that seems all but invincible (kind of like making a determined stand, yet being forced to give ground). That way there's a fighting chance, and you'd get to glory in the front-lines of combat. Now it feels like I've just come back after a short hiatus, and told that the place is wrecked. And now I have to go in and fix it?! Darn, I just cleaned up the place too! It's no longer about saving the Republic, we're being asked to Resurrect It! As it is, it seems like it would be more favourable to cut our losses and regroup, rather than to stand and fight (and I hate having to abandon people when they may be depending on me ). I can't help but wonder if Revan experienced something like this. It would appear that Korriban was wrecked due to a massive battle. I kind of fancy the notion that it was Revan who did it (the dude fights like a Demon (!) , at least my Revan does anyways ). Him travelling to Korriban and wrecking the place, and then later being appalled at the death and destruction he caused, so he decided to go into seclusion. Maybe he figured that if he continued fighting the Galaxy wouldn't be able to survive the collateral damage from the conflict. Perhaps the Jedi did the same, it would seem that's what they were planning to do in KotOR. Take a what and see approach, while assessing the danger and consequences of joining battle. In anycase, it looks like reckless heroics will no longer be the order of the day. Probably just as well, since Jedi seem to hold more value in critical thought and listening to their instincts than to reacting with emotion. (I'd still rather shoot for the glory - bet [edit2: but (rather)] then, imagine the accolades we'd receive if we manage to pull this off ... ) [Edit: guess this means I sort of agree with XboxSithLord, although, not quite completely] -
Something seems to be wrong. The game is slated by several distribution points as being released in early December for the US X Box, but checking the official Lucas Arts site, I notice a distinct lack of a preorder available in their on-line store. Just a disquieting message (considering how little time is left between now and the supposed release) saying Pre-order available soon. Perhaps the unforseen has happened? I wonder what problems would occur if the hint book gets released on time (a DVD enhanced version is set for Nov 30, a little over a week away), yet the game gets delayed a month (for the US X Box players)... Thinking on it, I'm more than likely jumping to wild conclusions, still ... I can't help but wonder.

The issue of the 'darker' meaning behind "Krath" has intrigued me. I've run the term both through a search engine and some translators, and this is what I've found: An article about a demonstration that features a banner with the word "Krath" (specifically in Greek: ola ta KRATH einai dolofonoi). It appears to be a demonstration against the increasing use of military might in global affairs. Krath correlates with "States" in the phrase: translated to "all the states are murderers". (pretty grim declaration ) A variety of translations from various languages where "Krath" in:Croatian=time Serbian=time Slovakian=times Turkish=crater Icelandic=Social Democrat (more political references, seemingly  ) Danish=bush Swedish=bush Norwegian=bush Polish=crate I'm uncertain as to the significance of any of these, but it seems that the word "Krath" in itself, may not be profane (as yet I haven't managed to find much connection between France and "Krath"). The context of the word, however, seems to be harmful, perhaps politically/socially due to some incident between France and another power that occurred in the past. Another search using a variation of the word "Khrat" turned up a religious reference to some kind of Codex (common to both India and Iran/historic Persia), possibly Islamic in nature? In anycase, I'm convinced that we probably shouldn't go digging too deeply into this. It's likely to open a very big can of worms  .

So does this mean the game's gonna go gold, like, real soon? Or am I reading this wrong. So when can we expect the announcement? Or did I miss it? -
To break in and steal it? Nahh, a "playable" version of it is probably already there. Haven't heard any announcements of it going gold though. (not that I'm condoning break-and-enter or theft  )

Mandalore is definately Canderous!
SmkJaguar replied to jaguars4ever's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I don't know about that last bit about Revan never having the mask. I can't help but think that this Mandalore is a pretender to the throne (if he isn't someone sanctioned by Revan that is). Besides, for all we know, when Revan was taking apart Mandalore, one of his subordinates may have managed to scoop up the mask after possibly being knocked off (probably head and helmet along with it ). I just can't shake the image of one of Mandalore's subordinates (too scared to intervene in the fight) watching on the sidelines. Suddenly Revan sweeps Mandalore's head off his shoulders, upon which the subordinate makes a dash, scoops the head (mask and all) like a fumbled pass, and makes like lightning to the nearest exit. [Me]"You go dude! You can have that touch-down " (I'd be too busy laughing to bother stopping him) :D -
Also in Ep I, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan were stuck in that room with concentrated poison gas, and survived (it's debatable how long they were stuck in there, but I'd say it was long enough to kill even the strongest of "normals"). Not only did they survive, they came out of the room with lightsabers swinging . [Edit] don't forget Yoda and the X-wing thing . [Edit2] also, although he wasn't a Jedi, Vader managed to stop Han's blaster bolts with his hand! Yoda did pretty much the same thing with What's-his-face's lightning bolts. [Edit3-I'm doing these as they come to mind-in case you haven't noticed ] The Emperor (who also was not a Jedi, but still runs along similar lines) managed to unlock Luke's manacles with a casual gesture. And Yoda can levitate (at least I'm pretty sure it's him levitating, rather than him using a levitating chair).

Well, Obsidian (when they were in their previous "incarnations") has been known to do some whacky stuff, and generally do well afterwards. We'll have to see how this venture turns out .
-
The requirement being we start off without Force abilities and a saber, or that we have to start off as a Jedi? Someone just earned my ire, now I just got to figure out if it was LA or Obsidian.

PRIMA Strategy Guide for KotOR2
SmkJaguar replied to SmkJaguar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
While I tend to agree with you one the fact that we all shoudl play the game before getting the Strategy guide I still think I am going to buy it myself just so I can get the DVD and reveiw some of the much needed info on the disk before the game comes out. There are lots of things I would like to know and this would solve alot of that. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I may very well get the DVD enhanced strategy guide simply to have it as a collector's item. However, it will probably go into cold storage for several months into the next year (if I ever even bother to look through it, which I'm beginning to wonder). Although, with the guide coming out a full week before the game is even released, I suspect a Spoiler forum will be required for those who can't keep themselves from acquiring foreknowledge of the events in the game. Accordingly, I'll probably avoid this Forum altogether once the end of November approaches. I'm not sure about others that have played KotOR, but for me, I went into KotOR totally blind (didn't even bother to set up my "radar"). The whole time I thought Revan was dead, so I kept pestering people about what they thought about him, and what influence he had on their lives. I kept thinking I would have liked to have met this former Jedi face to face. He was so different from my character, who I played more like Obi-Wan in Episode I rather than Luke Skywalker in ANH or ESB. I assumed the confrontation would have devolved into combat, but I figured I would have at least had a chance to ask why. Why did he turn to the Dark Side? Later on, upon first meeting Malak, and he starts that climactic revelation about Revan my jaw just hit the floor (!) . I was thinking, "no way, he's not insinuating what I think he's insinuating?" Cue Darth Revan, in his Vader-esque get up, reaching upto his mask and I'm like (w00t). Face plate falls away and I'm :D  . Of course the initial shock of the revelation was like getting hit with an uppercut to my jaw. Although it wasn't painful, it knocked my "why'd you go to the Darkside" question out of my head. I never did find out the answer to that question in KotOR (at least not to my satisfaction). And with KotOR2 coming out, with hints that Revan will be there, I find myself desperately hoping again to meet Revan face to face. It's like a hope of revisiting Planescape: Torment for me. Hope of meeting that "Good" incarnation in PS:T (which I felt, my Revan had come to be like at the end of KotOR), hearing the "incarnation" tell of his past and his reasons for tracking down Ravell (sp?) - which so matched my own when Ravell first asked me The Question. I need this, I need to find Revan for closure . If Revan's dead at the Sith Lords' hands, Heaven help them , I will personally hunt down every last one of them and gut them! If he's alive, then maybe there's hope for these Sith Lords yet . With the game only weeks away from release (the US XBox) - with a PC version coming a month after [edit: 2 months after, my bad ] - my anticipation is greater now than it was for the original KotOR when I first learned of the game and the PC version that was in the works at the time (you wouldn't believe how jealous I was of the XBox owners at the time! ). A parting thought, when I started KotOR, Revan had already dropped off the Galactic Radar even before my PC started the adventure. Now with TSL on the way, Revan has again dropped off the Radar, and I find myself completing a circle. I'm mindful however, that the last time through, I assumed he was dead, this time through I'm hoping to find him alive . -
i havent seen episodes 4, 5 or 6...dus han solo fall in love with some queen from another planet or something...? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, he falls in love with the queen of the wookiees. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Funny, I thought Solo fell for the Princess of the Ewoks.

For those of you who have read the new UK OXM..
SmkJaguar replied to velocitygirl's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
 <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No need to take my ranting seriously. -
Unless, in the time since KotOR, Revan has been quietly growing his skills and abilities as well. I doubt Revan would cease his progression from KotOR (barring his death), unless he decided on early retirement. Doesn't [Edit]sound[/edit] like him though, at least not like my Revan . In TSL, I'd be content with my character being in Revan's shadow (as long as Revan isn't dead; or fallen to the Dark Side, again! ). In fact, once I get the game, I'm gonna make it a priority to round up the old crew and track down Revan, and drag him back to the Galaxy at large. With him kicking and screaming if I have to :D . The Sith Lords can go suck eggs for all I care , I'll deal with them later. Those Sith Lords aren't even worth the time it would take for me to recall their names, so I'll probably not even bother learning them. Unless of course they're directly responsible for the loss of one or more of the KotOR crew, in which case all of them will have earned my undivided attention - much to their regret.

I haven't seen this article, although I do find myself wondering ... Ooooo... " " " What if they're right... Dam... hate to loose my left testicle.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> hmm point, but hey huse gunna want it?!?! oh nd bsides im NOT gunna be wrong so theres not an issue neway, i was showin my confidence <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Still..... Wouldn't you fell less o a man with only one testicle... :D <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Umm, holding all bets aside for now I have the feeling that the article may be true in part. What was what it that Obi-Wan told Luke in Return of the Jedi? [Obi-Wan]... you'll find that many of the truths we cling to depend on our point of view ... ... Or something to that effect. It could be that the game's story is set in such away that the choices of KotOR have a significant impact on how KotOR2 proceeds. We already know that a DarkSide ending in KotOR would lead into the majority of the cast eliminated even before KotOR2 begins. These individuals that are dead, may have had great influence on the course of events had they been alive. In short, the description in the magazine may be the "Official" variant of how the story proceeds for those who haven't played KotOR, and could care less about meeting the original cast. It would satisfy those who want the TSL story to be their own (as much as possible at any rate). However, this magazine may have only seen one side of the story. I'm hoping the Lighter ending is incorporated to a strong degree as well, which would mean that the Galaxy at large has a slightly (though still significant for those of us who finished KotOR as "goodguys") different political composition if we indicate the LightSide ending from KotOR. For one thing, the original cast could be alive and kicking (although in a clandestine manner). And another, there may be one or two less Sith Lords to deal with. All I know for sure is, if the original cast is gone, then those Sith Lords in TSL better start praying to whatever powers they believe in (most likely the Force, but that won't help them, since I'll be drawing on it too, and far more capably I might add ). Cause once I receive confirmation in game that there's no one left from KotOR, I'm gonna hunt down every last Sith Lord (and their pathetic servants) and make them PAY! Starting with that walking zombie, Sion (he only thinks he's in pain now, he won't believe his misfortune once he crosses blades with me ). -
PRIMA Strategy Guide for KotOR2
SmkJaguar replied to SmkJaguar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Well, I still haven't gotten around to getting the first KotOR strategy guide. At this point, it's a pretty safe bet I never will. I may acquire the KotOR 2 DVD enhanced guide later for it's value as a collector item, that is if there's any left by the time I finish the PC version (most likely won't even consider it until after several attempts or a few months with the game have passed, whichever comes first). -
Looks like Ondernon was bombed
SmkJaguar replied to Craigboy2's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
If you examine the pic closely, particularly the columns on the left and the house(?) that's overlapped by Kreia, you'll notice a peculiar taste in landscaping/architecture, either that or the place got wrecked *shrugs*. [Edit:]Strangely enough the flooring looks undamaged, I was expecting potholes and cracked asphalt/masonry (or whatever material it is they use for their roads/pathways). -
PRIMA Strategy Guide for KotOR2
SmkJaguar replied to SmkJaguar's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
According to EB, "Pre-Order: Ships on 11/30/2004". Seems like the entire game would be spoiled even before the game itself is released. Seems like every hint book that recently came out was available at least a couple days before game release. Wonder why they do that (hint book publishers that is)? -
Found this while browsing through EB's selection and was intrigued by it. They hint at some interesting developments that may occur as the story progresses. Here's a snippet: DVD Features: Video footage of developers demonstrating the various fighting styles available, using Force powers and Jedi weapons to suit a player's needs. Description and solution of various "chokepoints" in the game. A player can become confused as to what needs to happen next, the DVD shows them exactly how to get by the difficult spots. To facilitate the character's quest there will be overviews of each planet the player is able to visit. Locations, story points, and encounter spots will all be detailed. Exclusive insght from the game developers as to what they love most about their game. There are subtlties (edit=subtleties? or subtitles ) that a player might never notice without the experience of a tester. Wallpapers for the customer's computer created by Prima's designers. Book Features: PRIMA's Official Game Guide includes full walkthroughs of both light and dark side story arcs. All three Jedi classes will be detailed to let players make the best choice for their play style. Stats on all weapons and items provided as well as suggestions on uses for different situations Every companion character will be examined, giving stats on their strengths and weaknesses and special abilities. All force powers will be covered to give players the knowledge they need to fight off (or join up with) the Sith. Maps of key areas will guide players through the worlds they visit. Of particular interest to me is the joining up option with the Sith. The first KotOR really didn't offer much in the way of affiliating with the Sith. The Darkside option was simply to wipe out everyone else and take the throne yourself, but this seems to hint that we'll actually be able to offer up our services to one or more of the Sith Lords. Personally, if I ever went Darkside, I'd see myself as a Darth Vader to someone else's Emperor (I'd rather let someone else handle the administrative headaches while I go scooting around the Empire crushing our enemies - kind of like the way I offered my services to the Jedi Council in KotOR, so I could hunt down the Sith  ). KotOR TSL seems to offer that opportunity, and if it does, this may actually cause me to reconsider my loyalties  .

Thanks, but those ideas were inspired from theories put forth by others in this forum. In fact there's several really good ideas floating around that caught my attention. I think that if enough of us express our ideas, we'll eventually have all the pieces of the story (the important ones anyways). We just have to figure out how it all comes together. In anycase, I'd lay odds that we could outperform a room filled with monkeys at least.

How Do You Think Korribon Will Corrupt You?
SmkJaguar replied to Bastilla_Skywalker's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Freedon Nadd--->Exar Kun--->Kyp Durron <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Who?! Seriously though, I think Darth Sidious did a far better job of it, after all, he managed to corrupt a Jedi Master (I wonder how in the world he managed that feat ). That whole EU dark side ghost thing doesn't seem to jive with the Movie material, not that I don't believe that Dark Side Ghosts can't exist. If anything, it isn't the ghost that would corrupt a Jedi in training, but rather his/her reaction to the ghost reveals the corruption that's already there (ie. the Empire Strikes Back cave scene on Dagobah). In Luke's case, he's out to take down Vader for all the wrong reasons (as far as I could tell). And in TSL, my dude would probably fall for pretty much the same reasons. The Sith are Sith, Revan's dead, and there went his one chance to meet and train under a Jedi he may likely have idolized. I'm guessing here, since I have nothing else to go on as to why the PC would fight under Revan's banner - the PC's history is that he fought under Revan right? At this point I can't even be certain of that, since one thread here gave me the impression that the Council exiled the PC before he joined Revan. Or maybe he was exiled because he joined Revan (but before Revan had the chance to be redeemed or whatever path KotOR took him on). Well I'm certain all will be made clear once the game's out. (*muttering* can't help but think I'm gonna be looking back at all my posts and wonder - "What on Earth was I thinking?! ). -
How Do You Think Korribon Will Corrupt You?

I was under the impression that living Dark Lords seem to do that task well enough, and not just with the young (Darth Sidious being a prime example). -
How Do You Think Korribon Will Corrupt You?
SmkJaguar replied to Bastilla_Skywalker's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
At this point, probably the only thing on Korriban that would corrupt my PC is discovering that Revan is dead. And believe me, it wouldn't be the "hahaha, join me in the Darkside and we'll rule the Galaxy together" corruption. It would be the "Damn you all to Hell, I'm going to hunt down every last one of you" , full on Hate corruption, with the desire for the absolute destruction of anyone even daring to call themselves a Sith. I'd show them the True meaning of the word, Purge! But that's only because I can't shake the notion that there's a deeper affiliation between the PC of TSL and Revan. Kind of like a Jedi who joined Revan's banner in the hopes of one day receiving some instruction from him. Him finding out that Revan's dead would be akin to Obi-Wan witnessing Maul saber Qui-gon. At that point nothing else would matter, his sole mission would be to take down every last Sith just because they're Sith (which would make my PC a Dark Jedi of the most evil caliber). -
Perhaps Revan gave the mask to the Mandalore of his choice? Actually scratch what I said about taking the mask, I probably would have just sabered it several times, then melted the pieces to slag from prolonged contact with the 'blade' (without bothering to strip the mask off the corpse I might add ). If this Mandalore is the same one from the Kashyyk reference, than he (from where I'm standing anyways) seems to cut a less than ideal figure for a Mandalorian leader. *shrugs* Still, it's best to give respect where it's due, since it never pays to underestimate a potential adversary (or antagonize a potential ally). [EDIT:] A funny thought struck me, one that's probably been mentioned before (or at least a variation of it). The new "Mandalore" could be Sion or one of his proxies in the armor. The Kashyyk reference is what triggered this, more than likely, silly thought. Their pattern of behaviour seemed to match that of soldiers testing out new gear for assassinations (could even be Genoharadran - sp?), however, clearly not all of them were happy with the orders they were given. Maybe Sion and/or Mandalore have an association with the Genoharadran (who seem to be a Galactic Assassins Guild). If not, then Sion and/or Mandalore may be at odds with the Genoharadran (rival groups never seem to take well on the other muscling in on their turf).
-
There's that mask thing again. If Revan aced the "first" Mandalore (ie the one in the Mandalorian Wars), wouldn't he have realized the importance of the mask and stripped it off his corpse? Canderous mentioned that the Mandalorians were a shattered people after Mandalore's defeat, what better way to crush your enemy's fighting spirit by taking away their symbolic leadership (they took everything else away, why not the mask?)? If I were Revan :D , I'd have stashed that mask somewhere for safe keeping, which would mean that this Mandalore is definitely a pretender to the throne. Probably why he isn't universally acknowledged by the other Mandalorians - either that, or they're doing a fine job of disseminating. Hmmm, could they just be pretending to be broken? Could the real Mandalore have doubled himself and sent his decoy to a death to fool the Republic (and sent another decoy to draw in assassins)? Seems rather convoluted, but the best way to fool the enemy is to fool your own people first (or so goes an old military axiom). Of course, if Revan did take the original mask, then the only ones that would have access to it are Revan and possibly his crew from KotOR, or any of the Sith Lords that managed to either beat it out of him (HAH! Fat chance of that! - course I'm just biased " ), or somehow persuade/trick him out of it (again, something I think highly unlikely).
