  1. Its not actually THAT bad, it really is about what company you work for, some companies, are actually just running questionable, and in some cases illegal work practices. Fair enough. It does often sound though like low pay, very long hours, little freedom, ridicoulous deadlines, having to jump at the whims of every passing retail or publishing suit are standard working conditions. I'm often puzzled why anyone would want to work in games development at all.
  2. I'd rather clean toilets with my tongue than work in the video game industry. It seems a pretty unpleasant place.
  3. You taunt me so, but happily no. I salute you, sir. You are made of strong stuff, indeed.
  4. seems like the game is slowly winning converts. *waits for Monte to buckle*
  5. WHenever a game is released, I'm reasonably sure that there are people with ties to the game in some way, coworkers, significant others, friends, milkmen, whatever, who are posting postive reviews. TO single out Bioware is frankly a bit absurd. That's the way it goes on the internet: the ballot boxes are always stuffed.
  6. Come on, Monte, just buy the game! You know you want to...
  7. That was a serious amount of work. I stand in awe. Thank you.
  8. I'm not particularly a fan of IW, but I've played it through twice and it's not that bad really. No worse than Bioshock and probably better in some areas. Just don't compare IW too strongly to Deus Ex, and enjoy it for what it is.
  9. I hope it takes a long long time to get here: by AUgust 26th summer is almost over, and I can't handle another winter right now. I'm looking forward to a long hot slow summer. I don't know what crazy planet you live on but DX:HR will be coming out at the end of winter. All you crazy people in the southern hemisphere go through life upside down!

  11. 2 with 3 a close second
  12. Sure. I'm a cynical bastard, at least when it comes to game development in this day and age. NO doubt about it. Never tried to pretend otherwise.
  13. I must say that I find the cynicism of this forum delightful. It's like a cold shower of truth to remove the remains of the lukewarm gelatin baths that are the bioware and bethesda fora. You think cynicism is more "truth" than optimism? OK then. For me, reading this forum is comparable to walking into a room of crying retards complaining about everything. It's downright nasty (and slightly creepy). *shrug* I can find optimism on Bio and Beth's fora. It's unremarkable and rather dull (and more than slightly creepy).
  14. mmm? Feeling a tad cranky today, are we?

  16. I agree. It's not a slamdunk success by a long shot. Hopefully, it's a modestly budgeted title and isn't expected to blow the doors off in terms of sales numbers. But if it does sell very well, it's a huge win for Obs, maybe even more so than the success of NV.
  17. By all accounts FO:NV has sold extremely well. If DS3 does as well, then Obs is in good shape as far as having a reputation as a successful developer. The relationship with Sega was appears to have been a disaster, but other than that, Obs has done all rigght for itself.
  18. Hey, we all ready have a Bioware thread.
  19. He seems very frank about the fact he doesn't finish most western-style rpgs. He can't stand them and they tend to be fairly longish.
  20. He's always at his best when he's kicking an rpg in the nuts.
  21. I think Bioware's writers lack the proper sadism. In fact, I feel they should be taunted for that. In hopes they can eventually be challenged to write the darkest, most despair filled, and depressing RPG of recent memory. Because somebody needs to and the only options are Obsidian and Bioware. Or I've just spent too much time browsing TVTropes. That happens. Though, I think the point more is not about Bioware being either too dark or not dark enough. The point is that they are "dark but not too dark" at the same time.
  22. epic foursomes?
  23. Is this a bad sign?
  24. well, that would explain the bisexual foursomes, then.
  25. I have to disagree on this. The most overused Bioware word is "dark". WHich is so overused that it is often used twice in the same sentence: "dark, but not too dark."
