Apparently a greedy demand, since I've yet to come across one. In fact every strategy game falls into the same trap, which is that of giving the AI cheat bonuses in order to make it competitive. For a history buff playing EU2, fighting a 80000-headed HRE city state army and beating it without much effort isn't all that exciting. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Have you tried playing Galactic Civilizations? I can't say that I noticed any obvious cheating in the game although the game just lacks that vital something to keep my interest. Should be able to pick up the Deluxe Edition for $10-$20.

I got that working on my uncle's computer with sound recently. Can't remember quite how I did it though... I think RA had a problem with the sound. You could listen to the music but it would skip horribly so I just turned it off. All the normal sound effects for the weapons and explosions worked perfectly. YAY! Someone else who has played Dark Reign! I need to find another copy of it somewhere. I never actually owned it, but borrowed it from my uncle. :"> Will probably end up getting a copy of eBay. Hopefully I can get the expansion to, never played it.

It's kinda creepy actually...

I usually play huge worlds with large landmass continents. I don't like playing on maps with lots of water because the computer never really uses the ocean for anything. They don't expand off it and they don't attack across it. The only time I had a computer attack an island was when I basically flipped them off everytime they tried to contact me and threatened to declare war if they even though of stepping foot on my island. I was kind of like alcatraz. No way in and no way out. I had fun defending myself from all the other computers at the same time though. Each of them decided to gang up on me at the same time. Granted each one only sent one transport each but as soo as I beat them back I immediatly invaded the large continent that was right beside me and managed to conquer most of it before the game ended.

What was the original mammoth tank like. I can't even recall what it looked like. I'll have to play through C&C when I visit my uncle this summer. Don't think I've ever finished the original. " That and Firestorm are the only ones I haven't completed.

Go AoW! Although it was amazingly easy to clear out entire maps with those Task Force Talon Rail Guns-er snipers. " Those things went through tanks almost as fast as they went through infantry. Personally I loved using blackhawks to airlift snipers to the roofs of buildings that other infantry can't get into because there is no ground floor entrance. Made good sniper positions and excellent scouting areas.

My favourite RTS would have to be Dark Reign. The ending sucked but up until that point it was a pretty awesome game. The unit AI settings were quite nice, helped keep the units alive. Ambushes were so much fun. Take a bunch of mercenaries and phase them. After the tanks roll past you un-phase and attack before the know what's going on.

You the youngest? Nope...

No, that would mean we would cease to exist. You wouldn't do that, would you? Would you?  Nooooooooo! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Mwahahahaha! I hold your future in my hand! *drops it* Oops...

Every night when the clock strikes midnight, one of you ceases to exist. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Is that because one of us has forgotten about this forum? "

Yay! I'm special!

That's a little disturbing.

So what happens to those of us with a count lower than 1? "

I know where they got the sound effect for that call. It was the plumbing in the mens washroom at the cinema I went to. It was kind of wierd because just as I went in someone was coming out and the automatic flush kicked in. The plumbing made the exact same sound that the tripods did. If I didn't know that there was only one screen showing the movie at this place and it had just ended I would have sworn I was hearing the movie through the walls.

If a movie has enough mistakes that it ruins your suspension of disbelief then it's not a good movie.
-
I'll be rehashing other posts made on other forums because I'm too lazy to point out everything that ruined the movie for me. I understand that this portion was in the book, but that doesn't make it any less idiotic. I think thats about it for now. <_<

It was a terrible movie.

I remember being killed by giant rats in the basement.

Correuption also depends on how many cities you have. Depending on the size of the map you have a larger or smaller "Optimal City Value". If you have more cities than this then you start experiencing massive corruption in all cities except capitals and those right nearby. I once had half of a huge map conquered just so that the enemy couldn't use it. I got no use out of it at all because of the massive corruption everywhere that on the border was basically You get to keep 1 out of every 50 shields while the other 49 are lost to corruption. I gave up trying to build up these cities normally and went into massive tax hike mode so I could afford to just buy buildings in all of them as that is the only way I could get anything in them. The Optimal City Value is 64 for huge maps and for each level smaller you go down it divides by two. (Large 32, Normal 16 and so on...) I modified the rules in my game to double this limit and now corruption is a lot more manageable. Anyway on anything above Monarch I adopt a warmongering approach for the first age or two. Going out with a core of swordsmen and capturing as many enemy cities as I can. I let my research fall to zero and just trade techs with other computers. I like to serve as a buffer between civs where they don't know there is anyone on the other side of me. That way I can buy techs from the first computer to trade for other techs to the computer on the opposite side which I can turn around and trade for something from the first computer. " Mid to late game I go pacifist unless someone attacks me in which case I mobilize my huge army that was left over from my early warmongering which has been upgraded through the ages, which allows me to totally annihilate just about anyone else. "

I've had modern armour lose to Roman Legionaires.

A very clever shot into the barrel, whilst another jumps on the gun and spears the tankmen inside ... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Sure... As the tank is rumbling forward at full speed and squishes the Spearmen under it's treads. *sigh* If only. "

I've got that beat. I managed to pick up a copy of Civ 3 in a dual pack with Civ 2 Test of Time for $17.99. The weird thing was that on the shelf right above it was Civ 3 itself selling for $42.99. Was perfect as I had lost my copy of Test of Time about a month before..

What are you playing ? (looking forward too)

Since my dad has stolen my CD for Fallen Haven I now have a chance to try Alpha Centauri. Managed to find a copy of it last week but I hadn't gotten around to playing it till now.
