  1. I don't agree. Atton's death (if LS female) and Bao-Dur's sacrifice were great dramatic elements and I would have respected the writers even more if they got those events into the game (well, Bao-Dur's sacrifice is halfway-in already). Plus, if they went further than implication of crew members dying, it could make a sequel a bit easier to write. Less contradictions - So-and-so can't make a cameo because if you did this, he/she got devoured by a horde of gizka, ect.
  2. Nothing is wrong with diversity. And it is rather nice to see Visas and Handmaiden being so vastly different. Same with Atton and Disciple. But I still think I'll stick with Bastila. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Good point. Ahhhh... Bastila. I've actually asked my roommate (a hearing, speech and language pathologist-in-training) how hard it would be to give my girlfriend a British accent.
  3. you think like this.... Friend: I'm setting up a benefit concert for Relay for Life: it's a typical benefit, so no cash, you'll only get whatever the bartender gives you in free beer. Me: Okay, I'll ask the guys, but I'll try to swing them on it. *light side points gained*
  4. Nothing is wrong with her personality... it's her appearance. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Noted... I still applaud Obsidian for taking a chance and straying from the stereotypical student/love interest. I really don't mind the short hair, as I've stated in other threads.
  5. You're not missing anything except a truly remarkable absence of color.
  6. She is great the way she is... lesbian cops notwithstanding, the Handmaiden is the perfect "disciple." She has a great backstory and she is willing to sacrifice her loyalty to Atris for the exile. And she does all this without appearing submissive or giving up her femininity. I know a lot of girls that have similar personalities (if not similar haircuts), and strength of character is NOT a fault in females.
  7. I believe this was posted before... but it's worth bringing back because there might be some people that haven't seen it yet. And it IS very funny. "I see the liquor's strong with you, Obi-Wan Ka-boozey..... Drinker!"
  8. I can't believe the same guy that voiced Jolee Bindo also voiced Johnson, the bartender in Leisure Suit Larry 7. Wow. Now that's range! 1. Kreia 2. Atton 3. (tie) Sion/Handmaiden Honorable Mention: T3, for improving 1000% over the last game. Like R2, you could tell that those beeps and hums actually meant something.
  9. Jeez, am I the only one who hated the silver crystal? Anyway, LS playthrough (haven't finished DS yet, but there will be more red sabers then) Exile: Orange Handmaiden: Double-bladed Cyan or Violet Atton: Green or Violet Bao-Dur: Blue Visas: Single red and the Nadd-saber Mira: Viridian Kreia: Yellow
  10. Fear Nothing and Seize the Night were good. I've read quite a lot of Koontz's stuff and those are two of my favorites. I can't remember the name, but there was one where the evil dude that had been killing people left and right turned out to be so angry and homicidal because of the extra testosterone he was producing.... from his extra testicles . No joke. I stopped reading Koontz for a while after that on principle. Also, the Xanth series is great. I especially liked "Demons Don't Dream," the one about the kids that get into the fantasy realm through a video game. Considering that book came out in 1993, I'd say he was ahead of his time. :D
  11. Macsal Matoh ... had to add the first "a" due to a severe vowel deficiency. Or maybe Macsa Al-Matoh Either way, this system isn't kind to those of Scottish heritage with a "Mc" prefix to their last name.
  12. Good, they fixed the speed and aura trees of powers for PC. It's probably a good thing they don't stack, because adding all that defense to Force Enlightenment (once you get it) would make the Exile a invulnerable killing machine, instead of just a killing machine.
  13. May 18th-20th 2005. (w00t) But just to be sure, is that the Ep. III movie release or the Ep. III game release? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I remember hearing that the game was going to come out a week before the movie, so that should be about right.
  14. Haha you are so right. About bass player being the coolest and about it being an Ibanez. And, yeah, Social D rocks hard. I was pretty bummed I couldn't see them when they came to Columbus a month or so ago. I had an exam in my night class that very night. I hear that Matt Freeman from Rancid is their touring bass player now, too!
  15. And that's another thing... Every time she said, "My life for you," it reminded me of Trashcan Man from The Stand. "Ciboooooolaaaaaaaaa!"
  16. I know Jaguar will probably be in here momentarily to forcefully rebuke this, but... I just didn't think Visas was that appealing of a character. Yes, the voice acting was good, but I didn't really think the character was that great.. maybe she's just not my type. The handmaiden was more interesting to me, marine buzzcut and all (cue the obligatory "lesbian cops" responses). Also, I don't think I ever got over the fact that her conversation options could be exhausted 10 minutes after she arrives on your ship. Of course, I think a lot of the characters had that problem, but I do wish there was more late-game and event-reaction conversations with your NPCs instead of everything being there at the beginning.
  17. Tolkien, of course. The Stand, of course. Ender's Game, of course. All true classics. Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series, Steven King's Dark Tower books, Robin Hobb's Farseer trilogy and Liveship Traders trilogy, Terry Brooks' first Shannara trilogy, Elizabeth Haydon's Rhapsody trilogy... hmm I'm noticing a trend here. I also have fond memories of Isaac Asimov's robot novels, epecially the Elijah Baley detective stories. Fight Club has been mentioned, but Survivor is another excellent Chuck Palahniuk novel. Christopher Buckley's Thank You for Smoking was really good, too, if you like heavy doses of sarcasm and irony in your reads. For classics, I liked Hemingway's Green Hills of Africa and The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand, even though she gets ripped on a lot. Nonfiction... hmm. I read a book called McCarthy's Bar that was funny and interesting. It's the story of a Brit named Pete McCarthy who wants to get in touch with his Irish roots, so he goes tramping around Ireland following his first rule of travel: If you see a bar with your name on it, stop and have a pint (or five). The problem with college is it forces you to pack all your pleasure reading into three months out of the year.
  18. My desktop background isn't gaming-related. It's usually a semi-recent shot of my band rocking out. I'm the bass player.
  19. What exactly is this supposed to mean? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My guess: The articles on Slashdot, Gamespy, Evil Avatar, theforce.net, ect. ect. Regardless of whether the dialog file was left in intentionally or not, Obsidian allowed 666 posts (creepy, eh?) in the "cut ending" thread. They allowed, on their forum, an awful lot of publisher-bashing, which doesn't bode well for future contracts. The news was also so big that it caught onto those other sites. Every game site worth its salt has a take on this and I have yet to see one that reflects well on LA. Hell, even Tycho from Penny Arcade linked to that thread and HE got it from Evil Avatar. Obsidian would be a lot happier if we had kept the lid on this; they don't want to garner a reputation as some sort of rebel developer that dumps the blame on the publisher whenever things start going wrong (even if it IS the publisher's fault, this isn't a good idea for a fledgling company, even one with a built-in fanbase).
  20. Didn't they do the theme for Buffy the Vampire Slayer? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You are correct, sir.
  21. Back in the mid-90s there was a really awesome nerdy light punk band that called themselves Nerf Herder. They actually got some MTV play for their hit single "Van Halen," about the band of the same name. These guys were really ahead of their time. At the time, Weezer was the only emo-nerdcore band around - now you can't throw a rock in any direction without hitting an emo kid or dime-a-dozen pop punker. Nerf Herder also had the whole retro-nostalgia thing down way before Bowling for Soup came out with that inescapable "1985" song. NH wrote songs about Jonathan Richman and Courtney Love as well as Van Halen. They also were geeky as geeky could be, writing songs like "She's a Sleestak" about the mysterious creatures from "The Land of the Lost." And although I've only heard their first two albums, I hear the single off their latest effort is titled, "Mr. Spock."
  22. Bio forums... eh. Watching the QA ninja zing idiots left and right was fun, but that was too big of a pool for me to jump into. Lucas Arts forums...not even a question. If I wanted to converse with mental eight-year olds, I would be a elementary education major. No, I think if these forums (the only forums I've stuck around for more than 5 posts on) closed I would just get more work done. That's the one upside, I guess. Too bad, there's a lot of cool people here. I joined for instant notification of every new screenshot of TSL that went up. I stayed for the distinctive personalities, the discussion and speculation and the fact that (USUALLY) no one gets flamed unless they deserve it, regardless of post count. I've learned a lot; it's been fun.
  23. I never envisioned Yoda as a "Silver Bullet" kind of guy. But Obi-Wan Ka-boozy's flask was comedic gold.
