Lord of the Rings: War in the North
SadExchange replied to SadExchange's topic in Computer and Console
Well, I'm definitely interested in a hack n' slash set in the lord of the rings setting that has decent loot, but I'll be waiting for a price drop. Thanks for the heads up though on the impressions Greylord. -
If you'd like, you can add me on your battlelog so we could join up in a squad sometime, you can find me under SadExchange410

I'm very excited for when my Steam version unlocks in a couple weeks. Hard to wait through the console release, but I played through AA on the Xbox and then on the pc and just wanted one version this time around, but the extra month has been a long wait.

These are definitely three games I'm looking into as well. They all look pretty good so far. -

Always wise words -
I wanted to see if anyone was looking at this game? I know it's coming out amid a host of AAA titles, but wanted to see if anyone was planning on picking this one up? It looks like a decent enough rpg action game built around co-op. I know Skyrim is coming out and setting the scene for the fantasy setting for the rest of the year, but I thought I'd throw out a post to see if anyone else was interested in this title. Seems like it's coming from a good developer who released Champions of Norath and Dark Alliance, but it appears that they have expanded upon all the good aspects of those games and put it into the Lord of the Rings setting. I'll be picking it up on Steam if anyone else is.

You join games and handle all the social aspects through your browser. Once you choose a server, it launches the game. I disliked it tremendously at first, but it has grown on me quickly. Hey Hurlshot, we should squad up, my soldier's name is SadExchange410. I don't mind Origin as I only used it to install the game, otherwise I just use the web browser like he said. Love the 64 person battles so far.

After taking some time off of gaming because of work, I've put in some more time into Dark Souls, got into the sewers, got cursed, got uncursed and taking a little bit before I take on the Gaping Dragon, but it's going well. Liking the shortcuts I find after the fact. Also, put in a little bit of time in with Dungeon Defenders as well on Steam. Had some fun on my ipad a while back, however the controls were a little wacky, so having fun now with the K/M.

dark souls is better. i played demons souls for about 60 hours and im having way more fun with this game. The BIGGEST reason its better is the open world design, it plays like a castlevania or metroid game, where you have a big castle/world to explore, but some areas are closed off with locked doors etc that you get from beating bosses you find around, and there is a bit of freeform to how you explore (but not at all like new vegas or morrowind - but if you've played a castlevania game in the last 10 years you should get what im talking about). as you explore you also will find hidden shortcuts that take you quickly between regions, so the world ends up feeling large, and yet tightly knit together too. its really exceptional level and world design. the frogs that diminish your health bar aren't a huge deal now people know what they can do. just make sure you buy a purge stone from the merchant in the belltower before you go fight the frogs, if they curse you and halve your health bar, just use the purge stone and you are cured, no big deal. (this would have been awful before people realized you can just cure yourself with a purge stone) the game is easier than demons souls imo. there are a couple of tough bosses, but there are fewer really hard mobs in the levels, so its easier to explore early on. the only things i hear people gripe about are the curse frogs (if said person forgot or didn't know to buy a purge stone before heading down there) and the Capra demon (which is the boss i got stuck on, i finally beat him on my 3rd try - i made sure to level up my armor before fighting him again, it made a big difference). if you search threads you will see a lot of people get stuck on the Capra demon, but this is hardly the first game in history to have a tough boss fight that takes 3-4 tries before you kill him. not to mention if you feel really hopeless you could just grind a few more levels. i think i grind about the same or less than demons souls, definitely not more. if you remotely liked demons souls then i heartily suggest dark souls. edit: also, if you die in dark souls you don't have to start the whole level over, so that alone makes it WAY less frustrating than demons souls. I agree with everything above and believe it to be well pointed out. I also would drive home his last point. The part that frustrated me the most about Demon Souls and made me end up quitting was the difficulty in starting over and losing your souls without the ability to grind early on to pump up your character. Now, with bonfires and reproducing enemies, it's possible to level up early game and then proceed from then on with more stats and this has made the game far better in my opinion. I enjoyed Demon Souls somewhat, but am really enjoying Dark Souls because of the open-world concept. I believe my next boss i the Capra Demon so I'll be on the lookout for him, however I just really enjoy the level design and how it was said that it's like Castlevania or Metroid where you get to a further area, and find a shortcut to an earlier area so that you're able to move more freely between the areas and no loading times is a nice touch. I will say I've noticed what I believe to be lag in some battles due to playing online. Nothing bad, just noticeable. I haven't come across the frogs yet, but I bought a purge stone from the guy in the tower just in case. Is that a one time use item? When I get cursed, should I wait to use the stone before I clear out the entire area?

Making my way through Dark Souls at the moment. Having a good time with it. Quite suspenseful, although I feel like I have more patience for it than I did with Demons Souls. Getting older

Are there any estimates on how long it is? What's the price? I may pic it up as well.

You know.. that's the next game I'm buying for my almost forgotten Xbox 360. I've only bought a few games, all games that have not appeared on PC, but I have been burnt too many times. Enslaved, anyone?! I played Demon's Souls on my cousin's PS3 though. If Dark Souls is anything like that, I'm in. If my Xbox 360 still works.. I just preordered Dark Souls for the PS3 today, actually got the Collector's Edition through Amazon since they restocked so I'm pretty excited. Spent some time with Demon Souls, but not nearly enough and I'm really looking forward to this one for sure.

You should go on without him, the game its really good. Level design in particular. I was actually on the fence about it and even when I got it I couldn't get excited over it. But 2 hours of killing zombies can change anyone's mind It still has some faults but its so damn fun that I don't mind. I have to agree, level design is really great so far and I'm only in Act II still. I've put about 16 hours in and I still have fun when coming across a random zombie. The game does have some flaws, but like Orgun01 said, it's still damn fun and the devs seem to be patching everything else out. Honestly, it's really a good game to explore the world and see what's out there. I say go have fun.
-
Not quite sure I agree with over 3/4 of this. Although there were some bugs, I can't agree with a comparison to Arcanum due to the devs patching a lot of bugs out already. I've put in about 12 hours so far and really don't agree with your problems of character design, skill design, game-breaking bugs, etc, but everyone has their opinion.

Alright, the game's out and here's some first impressions... A paradise, this is not.... Well, the game didn't get off to the best of starts due to the developers releasing a debug version onto Steam where there were still quite a few bugs left untouched. After a few forum posts and facebook posts, the developers assured that the game version would be corrected and within a couple days, it was. The first patch released made all previous saved games non-compliant which was kind of a raw deal, but every patch since then has been fine and helped weed out little bugs here and there and it appears that the devs are listening to fans about bugs and patching them out. However, the MP is still a little bit of a mixed bag due to the success because the developers are hooking up a lot more servers due to the amount of volume on their servers and their current capacity not being enough for any system being the pc, xbox, or ps3, but it seems like everything's getting to be the way it should be. On the gameplay side though, this game has been superb, at least single player. While I have had random folks join my game and help bash some zombies, it's been, up until recently, a single player experience. However, that's been by my choice as I wanted to see the game for myself and it's been great. The melee combat is very satisfying, the world has been detailed, the quests have been pretty decent, and exploration and looting have been similar to that of games like Fallout or Borderlands. This game has the makings to be great and from reviews spread throughout the internet, it appears that a lot of folks are really enjoying the game and that it has been a huge surprise and I can confirm that. I had some reservations, due to the developers, Techland, whose previous titles were the Call of Juarez games, but it appears that they really took their time with this game. Approximately 5 years of development time, and it shows. Although there are some bugs here and there, it appears to be a very solid title with some great exploration and gameplay across a pretty good size map. I've been able to put about 6 hours into it so far and have had fun. The color classing of the loot being white, green, blue, purple, and orange really make exploration more motivating and the quests that are spread throughout the levels also create a sense of "what's over there?" as you're looking at the fogged out section of your map as you're walking or driving around. There's some great RPG elements as well as you can level up your character, I believe to 50, and put points in different skill points which really affect how you play the game, whether you're trying to survive or just there to take out as many zombies as you can. One thing I will say off the bat is I'm quite surprised at the different models of zombies. Even though you come across quite a large number of zombies, I've never noticed two alike. That's not to say there's never two that look alike, but I'm just saying it's not as prevalent as I thought it would. As I spend more time with the title, I'll give some more impressions about the gameplay and other components, but for now, I can easily say it's worth the entry price and I look forward to the multiplayer for sure.

I'm thinking it's looking pretty good as well. The concept seems good enough and the co-op is very intriguing. Might go ahead and preorder it as well. Have read and seen a lot of good previews about it.

I haven't heard much talk about this game here, however it's releasing soon and wanted to see if anyone is looking at it? I'm on the fence a little bit, but leaning towards looking into it. Been having a ton of fun with Deus Ex lately, but would enjoy some Zombies in between. Any thoughts?

Would like to know this as well. Ended up just attaching it the old way through "attach a document."

Cars in the future, well, 2027 at least. Having a good time so far. Made it through the tutorial and the first mission and love the options and versatility of the mission layouts.

After spending a bunch of time in the beta, now playing Age of Empires Online and enjoying it for what it is, a good casual RTS game with some persistence. Anyone else on here play? Co-op sometime?
-
Anyone checked out Eye: Divine Cybermancy yet? I've been looking at it for a few days now and it's looking pretty good from what I hear. It's been reviewed decently so far and appears to need a couple patches still, but positive fan reaction but I wanted to check with you guys here.

Just downloaded Dungeons of Dredmor and have gone through the tutorial and some of the 1st level and am having a good time with. Easily worth the $4.50 entry fee. Looks to be good mechanics and devoted dev team to work out the bugs. Look forward to more time with it.

I finally unlocked my first achievement after 4 hours of play, the one for getting through the swamp, so I decided to look at the achievement list and saw that I missed a few story ones, like defeating the Archon and meeting the boy in the swamp. Will these be given to me sometime or do I need to go through the game again? I'm playing the PC version if that helps. I thought I read somewhere that a patch would give all the achievements you haven't been given into your account. Is this true?
-
Not that I'm an achievement whore by any standards, but I've played the game for about 3 hours now and haven't received a single achievement for Dungeon Siege 3. Yowser. I guess I'm so used to getting an achievement for just killing the first enemy in most games that I assume something is wrong with my game or that it's bugged:)

Okay, so the demo is linear, but do we know if the entire game will be the same? No, we don't, so why not stop whining about something we don't know and just wait?
