.5 - 1.5 FPS was only in Neverwinter and the worst of the dungeon areas, as well as during combat with spell effects going on. In a normal outdoor or a small indoor area, I had about 3 - 4 FPS. In extremely rare situations, like outside Amon Jerros haven, I got about 6. Sometimes (Ex. when completely zoomed into the ground) I would get 7 FPS.

I just downloaded the beta, no problems with the installation. 1. My frame rate has improved by about 20%. However this is nowhere close to the amount of improvement that I need in order to be able to play properly, since before the patch, I was getting 1-7 FPS depending on the area and on the resolution. 2. Shadows and also water effects do seem to be less intensive. 3. AA has no impact on my frame rate. I have it at 6X. But it doesnt really seem like it does much at all, the graphics look pretty much the same. Isnt it supposed to make jagged edges smooth? However the grass still looks pixelated when I zoom in. Other than grass I havent noticed any jagged edges. The blades of my armor may be a bit smoother now, but this could just be my imagination. Why exactly was there so much fuss about this? Can anyone post screenshots of an area in NWN2 with and without AA so I can see the difference? 4. It seems that power attack no longer turns off randomly, upon character selection, or upon the initiation of normal dialogue, however, I havent tested this much yet. Cinematic dialogue still turns off power attack.

That's insane, my mind is boggling. I have an Athlon 64 3000+, a 9800 Pro and 1 GB RAM and I can only comfortably run at 800x600 with everything on low. Is this an Intel vs AMD thing? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Youve got the same specs as me except Ive got an Intel. I can hardly play the game. Maybe its our 9800 pro?

BTW Tigranes, I was able to get the toolset to work on my system by switching to the Omega drivers. EDIT: nevermind, I see the patch already fixed things for you.

I think you should get reasonable fps (I guess around 20-25) with everything disabled. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I can disable everything and run on minimum resolution and get 2.2 FPS in dungeons instead of 2. In outdoor areas, I can get about 4.5 FPS at maximum settings, lowering everything to the minimum increases my FPS to 5. In Neverwinter I get 1.5 FPS no matter what the settings are. When I tested the settings individually, none of them made any difference at all, the only setting that had any impact on my FPS was the resolution. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have a Thinkpad T41p: Pentium M 1700MHz ATi Radeon Mobility T2 128MB (based on the 9600) 1GB RAM and I have settings on medium and I get FPS in the teens minimum. Also, how are you measuring FPS in decimal places? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Wow, you are lucky! FPS in the teens with a card that is below requirements! If I get 1 frame in 2 seconds, that would be .5 FPS Also, the "showfps" command in the game can show FPS in decimal places.

No, I disabled it. Before that, the game was unplayable - I got about .2 FPS or so.

The problem is that there is no counter for neutral points. Theres just good and evil ones. So if you are good and ask for payment from a child, thats a neutral action, so you gain evil points and become less good.

Not really. I like building DND characters, I enjoy equipping lots of things, finding loot, min maxing and powergaming. So for me NWN2 is just some sort of interactive character generator that takes a really, really long time. The stronghold is cool and so are some of the NPCs. And the graphics are great. Other than that the game doesnt have anything else going for it. And the graphics are not worth the awful performance. In any case I am not playing it anymore. I need to wait for an expansion pack before I can craft the ultimate melee damage dealer. Also I am tired of playing the game at 2 FPS, its too much to take anymore. Right now defragmenting my PC sounds like a much more fun activity than playing NWN2. Dont forget that you need 7 GB of space just to patch the game. Thus the game needs at least 17 GB in order to play and patch. This is a lot more than 5.5. If I have the required specs then I should be able to play the game. Running at 2FPS is simply not acceptable when I meet the requirements.

What happened to Tiax? He was one of the few people that I converted to the Tormented Brothers (LOL, that just popped into my memory!). The good old days of spreading the holy word. Oh yeah, and we need Ye Olde Pages back!!! We had some awesome debates there.

I have 30 saved games at about 100 MB each, for a total of 3 GB. I havent progressed to the very end of the game yet. In fact I think I have quit since I havent played for two days now. The main folder of the game alone takes up 6.5 GB.
-
But that wouldnt be an issue if the save games werent so massive. Also it doesnt make sense that the game box would say that it needs 5.5 GB of space, and then the game takes up 10 GB. (And requires an additional 7 GB to patch!)

PST had decent combat. It was exactly the same as the combat in BG1. -
Why don't you put your My Documents on your game drive, and just do typical Save As for your Word and other documents on your C drive? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why should Hades have to change the entire way he uses his computer just because of NWN2?
-
And you're the genious that keeps playing something that he hates <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I dont hate NWN2. To hate a game is pointless. However I just dont enjoy the game for the various reasons that I have explained in the threads on this forum.
-
You repeat yourself however you have still failed to explain why the size of NWN2 savegames is stupid? Why can't savegames be 150MB in size in a world where 250GB drives are common in new desktop computers and cheap external hard drives make it easy to have extra storage room on any laptop or desktop for that matter? Do you know the reason why savegames are this particular size and if you do then please explain exactly what Obsidian has done wrong? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Of course I repeat myself. Theres no reason why NWN2 should take so much space for a saved game given that its completely linear when other games that have a lot more information to save take much less. Its ridiculous and it shows that Obsidian cant even come up with an efficient way to save games.
-
The saves get larger - much larger - as you progress through the game. I feel this is a very strange complaint and has more to do with your personal preferences and isn't a fault in NWN2. All new games i've played recently have also put their savegames under My Documents. This protects your savegames from other users and makes them easy to backup and copy when you reinstall windows or move to a new computer. Storing savegames under My Documents is actually a good thing for most users. If you must have so many savegames and antivirus gives you trouble then simply tell your AV software to ignore NWN2 savegame folder. Also if your AV software is decent and you act responsibly then there's no need to run scans so often that it would be any trouble no matter how long the scan runs. Leave it on while you go out for example. Btw if you're going to call something stupid then please at least explain why it's stupid. I don't know anything about the reasons behind those large savegame files but i'm curious. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Of course its stupid. Theres no reason why a save game should take up so much space.

Volourn's Wowwy Journey With NWN2:Spoiler Edition

Fighting games have combat based on reflexes. Role playing games should have combat based on strategy and statistics. Telling roleplayers to go and play fighting games is silly. -
There are very obvious reasons why these files should NOT be stored in My Documents. As I have explained in the other thread, My Documents is a frequent location for viruses, worms and trojans. Thus it is scanned by all anti virus programs very deeply. With NWN2 taking up 3 gegs in my documents, scanning my computer takes HOURS AND HOURS. Thus I can no longer scan my system as often as I used to - this makes my computer vulnerable. And there is no bloody reason why 1 save file should take up 150 GB of space. Its utterly STUPID to store dialogue files and walkmeshes as part of a saved game! NWN2 has shown that Obsidian is completely incompetent.
-
On nwn2news, I read a statement by JE where he said that Obsidian didnt want the power attack button to turn on right away because power attack would not turn on until the end of the round, so that would be giving wrong information to the user. They were considering adding it to the queue instead. I think that the best solution is to have two colors for the power attack button. Currently, it flashes yellow when turned on. Obsidian could let the button flash green (or whatever colour they choose) when clicked and then yellow when it actually starts working. Is this possible?
-
The worst thing about it is that there is no logical reason for why the save files take so much space. The game is pretty much completely linear, there should hardly be anything to save.
-
Just an update: I checked the release box of NWN2 and it said that the game should take 5.5 GB of free space. This is still VERY far away from 10 gegabytes.
-
OK now this is just STUPID. I had a look at my My Documents folder, and the NWN2 folder there is taking up THREE GEGABYTES of space. Each NWN2 saved game takes up a HUNDRED MEGABYTES of space! This is bloody ridiculous. Why the hell do these saved games take so much space? And which idiot came up with the idea of putting them in the My Documents folder? Since My Documents is deep scanned by all anti virus, spyware and trojan scanning programs, it now takes literally HOURS and HOURS for me to scan my pc for any of these things, even using quickscan functions. The main NWN2 folder is already taking up almost 7 gegabytes of space on my hard drive. So NWN2 plus 30 saves is taking up 10 GB. The game box says that the RECOMMENDED amount of free space is 4.6 GB. What the hell is the main folder doing taking up 7 GB of space??
