Obsidian is working on project for leading animation franchise
ShadowScythe replied to funcroc's topic in Obsidian General
That other project is North Carolina which Anthony Davis said was an original IP right? Also...what happened to Virginia? -
MCA post-mortem on Fallout: New Vegas and DLC

Sega have the rights to the AP license and have said they aren't interested in a sequel. -
Combat of South Park
ShadowScythe replied to Flouride's topic in South Park: The Stick of Truth: General Discussion
I think it's a reference to the LotR ep when Cartman kept saying Kyle can't be a paladin and instead kept calling him Jew. Since it sounds like he's starting the LARP session it kinda fits that he'd do that. -
South Park RPG

What can change the nature of a ****? -
It's Assassin's Creed, look at the UI.

The review was interesting but the writer seemed to think the Courier has amnesia, which is really not the case and is spelled out a few times in the game. And that sorta undermines some of the points.

Right down to the ugly demented face that feels like it should look attractive but really really isn't. Yikes.

Obsidian is working on project for leading animation franchise
ShadowScythe replied to funcroc's topic in Obsidian General
Well there's Spiderweb, Double Bear and Iron Tower. -
Yes, and from those facts I draw this conclusion. Again, we know Virginia. After Virginia, New York joined the union. That means that New York was most probable the big license talk. Which means the animation franchise. After that North Carolina joined the union. Most probable Sawyers Project. Again, not really a stretch. Of course theres other possiblities. I'm not saying its a fact I just want to explain how we arrived at this conclusion/speculation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._...te_of_statehood P.S yes. MOTB and SOZ got state names. DLC didn't. Didn't JE Sawyer post a pic on his twitter once of a book or two with "North Carolina" on the front cover? Seemed like a cryptic way of saying what his project was.

Wow those comments are cringeworthy...why am I even reading gamespot comments. -
Ah maan. Looks like I got excited a bit prematurely. Still, it was a good, interesting read.

Travis Stout leaving Obsidian for Undead Labs
ShadowScythe replied to funcroc's topic in Obsidian General
He wrote Steven Heck and did a fair bit of work on OWB iirc. -
I get the feeling that Reviewers in general seem to be much harder on dlcs compared to full length games (the reviews for the FNV dlcs aside from OWB were pretty harsh despite having some fantastic campaigns). With DA2, the game was seen as pretty awful by the playerbase, while reviewers for whatever reason praised it/did not hate it as much as the fans, but the dlcs apparently have won many players over while the reviewers have been much more critical and I think it's just cause of the reviewers being more critical about dlcs and mission packs and stuff. (As a side not, personally after playing Mark of the Assassin recently at a friend's house I think it's just as awful as the base game just with random gimmicks and pandering so I personally don't see the appeal of the dlcs but whatever)

Tim Cain joins Obsidian Entertainment!

Project Director of the next Fallout game on the West Coast. Make it happen Bethesda/Obsidian. Anyway this is great news. One step closer to a Troika/Obsidian dream team. -
The writer of that awful novel explained his motives Here Basically he didn't think the Exile's powers were relevant to 'his' story so he ignored them but apparently it doesn't mean she doesn't have them anymore. He never explained why the Sith Emperor had the same powers as Nihilus with none of the drawbacks or why He utterly depowered the Exile and killed her off in such an offensive way but whatever that's the best explanation we'll get I guess. I suppose he just couldn't get a handle on the nature of the Exile and SWTOR didn't really bring her up at all so he could just casually dismiss her from the canon. Ugh. Just ignore it and somehow imagine the series ended with Kotor 2 I suppose.

SEGA has the rights after all?
ShadowScythe replied to WorstUsernameEver's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
On the other hand, it'd make perfect sense for an Alpha Protocol 'sequel' to reform under a completely different name. One can dream I suppose. -
Nope, I did the latter and still got the achievement. Foxiest of Hounds is just not tripping alarms, stuff like failing hacks, shooting cameras, triggering cameras and enemies hitting the panel to trigger the alarm. That's it. Also I think the prologue does count, I avoided killing people in it either way.

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS THREAD!
ShadowScythe replied to CoM_Solaufein's topic in Computer and Console
The second page has a scan of the page with The Exile's death. It's handled so poorly and anticlimactically, one sentence and she's dead without even bothering to dwell on the death of such a major (albeit completely depowered and stripped of her defining traits) character. Stupid EA/Bio/Lucas Arts/Drew Karpyshynn. -
RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS THREAD!
ShadowScythe replied to CoM_Solaufein's topic in Computer and Console
Ever asked why Kotor 2 isn't on Steam, while Kotor 1 is? LA/EA/BIO don't wanna have Obsidian in the picture. They want them to be non-existant. Like they never made the game. This is nothing personal of course, just game business as usual. Conspiracies! But wasn't it Kotor 2 that established the whole Revan disappears and chases after the True Sith plot that forms the main storyline of SWTOR? Seems a little weird that they'd want nothing to do with Kotor 2 and yet form the background storyline of SWTOR around a plot that was set up in the game. -
RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS THREAD!
ShadowScythe replied to CoM_Solaufein's topic in Computer and Console
SWTOR's tie in novel appears to be retconning Kotor 2 completely I hope this is just a fake or something because that REALLY doesn't sit well with me. Ugh. -
Ok now he's got to be trolling...right?
-
Yeah I think the lead writer herself said the story was largely linear with only a few variations in the story in one interview prior to launch. And Deus Ex 1 was otherwise a pretty linear story, it just had a lot of easter eggs/flavour consequences that acknowledged the different ways a player approached a quest but nothing more.

Ulysses is a custom made model?! That's good to hear, I guess he won't be an ugly gamebryo man like everyone else.

It seemed more like what he was saying was that the publishers would rather fund something with a potentially much higher return like Skyrim- and true, as a publisher why would you fund a game where 1 mill sales would be considered amazing when games like Skyrim would sell into the 5 million and beyond? And really wasn't the reason Troika died was because no publisher wanted to back their top down isometric crpg? So there's an example of publishers not being that interested in a genre like that in a mainstream market, hence the alternative ventures and mediums like ipad and appstore. Publishers would be more interested in something like that since the appstore is a potentially much larger market (Rovio sure seems to be making it rain) and turn based combat is easier to sell to a portable audience (just look at the success of turn based games on the DS) and as long as said game was also available on PC through whatever convenient digital distribution services there were then the "old school" gamers would be happy too. At least, that's what I got from JE Sawyer and Nathaniel's responses.

So that's the second time he's said that the current market has allowed him to work with licenses he never thought was possible...doesn't seem like a throwaway line after all- Obsidian really must be working with some crazy license.
