it didn't make you randy? quite frankly, whichever path we go, we've got a socialist in disguise in office. obama is just a bit more open about it. they're both drinking the kool-aide. if there's one benefit to the current economic crisis, it may slow down spending and prevent changes to the tax code simply to keep from pissing off the electorate. you can't really raise taxes on anyone during a recession (whether or not we enter a recession, things are ugly), and cutting taxes for everyone won't get through congress anyway. iraq seems to be slowly moving towards autonomy, so troop withdrawal has become a relative non-issue, and will likely happen in due course irrespective of which of the two socialists actually holds the office. pretty much everything else is noise compared to the economy, which probably should be noise but lo, we insist on meddling and making things worse, republican and democrat alike. sigh... taks

actually, that was my original point way back when... it's kinda easy to do when you know the relationship. my life ain't empty, rosbjerg. sorry to hear that yours is. maybe you need to test out that new mattress? taks

yet apparently folks like you are incapable of memorizing 20 numbers in a series... ahem. taks

all they gotta do is beat TX on saturday, then they're right back in it looking at a championship against OK state. would have been a bit easier to stay on top had they actually beaten the team they were supposed to beat. i can understand #1 losing to #5... but OK state, after being ahead at half... and daniel throwing three freaking interceptions!!! arrrgh. taks

ooh, stuck in that infinite loop as well, eh? i woke up at home today. after spending the weekend at rocky mountain national park (at longs peak campground), it was quite a disappointment (uh, waking up at home). the park was incredible in spite of the clouds that obscured all of the highest elevations. we could clearly see down into all the valleys from up high, however. saturday afternoon we pulled out the grill and had a "picnic" in the bear lake parking lot. we got a few laughs and cheers from people exiting as they noticed what we were doing (tailgating!). michele and i were the only ones in our group that had ever seen the park prior to this weekend (my son, john, was there twice before but he doesn't pay attention too much). of course, it was cold and rainy the first night, then it got ugly. saturday the temps started dropping and we got a freezing rain/sleet coating on everything by dinner time. overnight we got several inches of snow, too. fortunately, there were no mutinies. i need to see about setting up a flickr account for these adventures. taks

hehe, sounds like you're in about the same place as me (game-wise). i'm an hour into chapter 2. taks

there's an option, probably a good one. the holiday hiring doesn't probably kick off till november. usually you have to know a driver to get one of those jobs, but there are a bunch (and i don't think they advertise them). anyway, from what i understand, UPS is a great place to work. well, the driver that visits my office likes it there and i've known several others that work in various positions that love it, too. good luck either way. taks

yeah, they have the potential to give you a ton of hours and the pay ain't bad from what i recall. my buddy does it in florida, so he has the added bonus of it not being cold. apparently, judging by your "From: Somewhere cold", you don't have that benefit. task

don't have one yet, kaftan, otherwise i would set you up. i'm going to be out for the next few days, and then i have to slam down a ton of analysis for the report i'm writing for work, which means i'll be working at home and not playing the game. it'll be over a week before i get back to the witcher. taks

ah, yes, then it is not the IP addy. something must have gone awry with your cookies then. out of my expertise at this point. taks

you might lose on that one, 3 to 1? i'm thinking 1.000001 to 1 at most. of course, does being committed to a psychiatric ward somewhere count as "locked up?" taks

one of them UPS delivery jobs deraldin? i have a friend that does that every year. he takes a month of vacation and works on the UPS trucks to pay for christmas. i'm going camping at longs peak in rocky mountain national park today. it's supposed to be in the 40s in estes park, the nearby town, and we're going to be much higher on the mountain. camping in the snow! i'm figuring it will be sometime saturday afternoon when everyone mutinies and we end up in some deli in town, looking for a hotel room. taks

i'm not sure which i enjoy more, getting my new toys in the mail, or putting them together. putting them together often ends up in some choice curse words for microsoft so i guess i'll go with getting my toys in the mail. i also wonder if maybe i upgrade my computer solely for the pleasure of getting new toys in the mail, putting them together and cursing microsoft. taks

yeah, that's why i mentioned the application dependent thing. when an app shuffles data around a lot, cache misses go through the roof and memory bandwidth becomes an issue. in contrast, the stuff i do operates on data that resides in large, contiguous blocks of memory. as long as i get my pre-fetching set correctly, memory bandwidth is never an issue because the cache is hitting 99% efficiency (or something close to that). i typically have worked with a cache that runs at 50% CPU speed, too... do the newer CPUs have full-speed caches? that would increase the miss rate. taks

you should also check to see if your IP address is changing. that's the most common reason i have to login on my standard websites since they use your IP address for identification. taks

holy shemoligans! i'm in chapter 2 now and have probably put in 10-12 hours max, but i think i have a long way to go in this chapter. i'm playing the easy combat style, too, and i'm not too concerned about alchemy. the side quests are a grind, for sure, mostly fed-ex it seems. those are all the witcher contracts that folks have mentioned a few times, right? taks

definitely some neatness about it, but the corniness level was high enough that i wished i was watching it as an 8-year old instead. taks

FO3 pirated in less than 24 hours after gold
taks replied to Tigranes's topic in Computer and Console
what i find odd is that the leaked source is a reviewer's copy, not the gold version. usually when something is pirated this early it is a result of the manufacturer (well, someone that works there) leaking the source of the gold disk. i seem to recall several relatively high-profile incidences in which the guilty employee even got caught. it's probably more widespread than we hear about, too. personally, i don't think a leak will effect sales. i've never been convinced that the crowd that gets pirated copies spends a whole lot on new games anyway. they typically wait for the pirated version to come out and don't play it if they can't get a pirated version (which they always can). i did know several that would "try out" a pirated game and buy it if they liked it, chuck it if they didn't (takes up space). taks -
there was a nick fury movie on last night, with david hasselhoff. it took all of 2 minutes to change the channel. i watched most of "30 days of night" last night. the critters were interesting. "god? <looks around> <shakes his head> no god." that's the line i remember from the previews and that scene is pretty spooky, but overall, the movie was a bit retarded. the ending really sucked. i hate those "i did it this way because there was no other way, you all would have died otherwise" endings when in fact, all they needed to do was wait around for 2 minutes and the problem would have resolved itself. maybe 6/10. i didn't catch the beginning so i didn't understand a lot of the background (like why the main vamp said a lot of the things he said). perhaps another half a notch if the backstory makes sense. taks

btw, krezack, here's how you get x when you don't use logs: alanschu (or i) knows his powers of 2. i go out to 2^20 for casual use, but 2^32 occasionally. 2^18 = 262,144 2^19 = 524,288 hmmm, gee, 300,000 is less than 524,288, but greater than 262,144. wow, then 18 coin flips has better odds than 1/300,000. no logs. i showed this once already. but you're too much of a ... to figure it out. taks
