maybe one day you'll have enough fact in your arguments, and you'll develop them with sufficient logic for inclusion into this cabal known as the "sole holders of fact and logic on this board." till then... taks

i think his point was that there aren't really opinions regarding what the actual theories claim, rather, the opinions regard what pieces of the theory are actually correct/incorrect. taks

forgetting WWF bias in their presentation of the facts/statistics for a moment... one of the common problems with "reports" that come out of these organizations is that they almost without fail ignore the simple fact that technology continually improves, which completely changes their predictive power. the same sort of folks were warning about the "peak oil" crisis that seems to keep getting pushed off. their myopic view cannot fathom the possibility that we will find ways around just about every problem we encounter. i don't necessarily agree that "the numbers are not in our favor," however. not because i think our resources are limitless, but that i think we just don't know how vast they are. the "evidence" that we're running out is coming from the same kind of groups making the specious claims in this article. what are our limits? who would have thought 30 years ago that our ability to grow crops would increase as it has, using less resources to feed more people? how much more oil is out there? it's a big world, and we haven't even come close to exploring all of it (most of it is actually unexplored). the same fools also continue population trends out as is infinitely, failing to notice that as countries get wealthier, their growth slows. the world's population trend is already beginning to show this. oh, these guys are convinced that humanity is a plague on the earth. gaia worshipping to the max. yes, the only solution is to halt technological advancement (the one thing that saves us) and decrease our population to "sustainable" levels. taks

are you sure you didn't forget to put pants on? failing to put pants on will most definitely elicit reactions that resemble new hair style reactions. taks

uh, yeah... i'm not sure how that is a reply/retort to what i said, smiley notwithstanding. taks

it's a study by the WWF... nuff said. yes, i'm sorry, but the WWF, EDF, sierra club, et al consist entirely of human hating idiots. period. alarmism at its best. taks

i sure would like a pair of those nightvision goggles. not sure what i would do, but they'd just be neat to own. taks

i'm on to the witcher enhanced on the PC... and devil may cry 4 on the PS3. both seem pretty good so far. taks

quite honestly, i have no idea what your point is, hildegard, nor how it would even apply to what i said. you're even incapable of understanding when someone half-way agrees with you. that must suck given that i'm such an ignorant redneck educated in the US. taks

i never played them... started to, but got kinda bored. i played through all of the BGs first, however, which tilted my view. i'm not really into the post-apoc scene, either. that said, i don't know anybody outside of here that even knows what "fallout" is. i'm really the only PC gamer of everyone i know for that matter, though i do have a bunch of pnp D&D friends. if i get F3, it may be for the PS3 (i'm kinda digging DMC4 on the PS3, btw). the reality that the fallouts did not sell well has been discussed at length elsewhere, but i'm not sure how much on the obsidian boards. taks

uh, syria has never really been on a list of countries that didn't want to attack us anyway. they're just too small to do anything about it. taks
-
yeah, but they can fight back. like i said earlier, the "truth" is probably a mixture of what syrian press and US press have to say on the matter. the attack was probably legitimately on some al qaeda operatives, and there may legitimately have been some civilians killed. taks

that the US is doing it does not surprise me at all, at least, not on the very border that the US accuses of being the primary source of insurgency. taks

i know that... my sarcasm throttle was pushed to the floor. winners get to write the history books, btw. taks

i always tended to prefer the medieval period in european history (and hence, my D&D fascination) as well as the "old west" in US history. sooo, when i had the opportunity to pick my "version" of history classes, that's what i opted for. taks
-
my guess would be that it is a mix between what the syrian news agency is reporting and what US news is reporting, i.e., some al qaeda leader (with cohorts) was killed. taks
-
uh, not sure what you don't understand. in every case in which someone in the US is ignorant of history, we are accused of having a bad education: "unavoidable history lesson in every serious eduction system, one you don't have at all." yes, we are all ignorant fools here in the US. not me, though it has been nearly 25 years since i had any world history classes, so even if i had studied it, it's long gone into the background noise of my brain now. taks

hmmm... i'm hungarian, or at least, i'm about a quarter hungarian. my grandfather came over the in the early 1900s as a child. that's about my only tie to hungary. no surprise that some think of it as an indictment of our education system that not every otherwise insignificant event in the whole of history is not taught in our classrooms. as if we didn't already have enough history leading up to the formation of our ignorant society anyway. taks

i'm not saying we are. you commented about how private schools would be bad for a place like compton, which would seem to have come from some statements i made earlier about how private schools would be much more affordable than they are now if the economic situation were different. it doesn't make sense to say that "folks in compton couldn't afford private schools" because the situation would be completely different if private schools were all that existed. taks
-
this is a naive view, actually. you're basing your position on everything else being the same, i.e., the economic environment as it stands today, which is hardly appropriate for a situation in which all schools were private. apples and oranges. taks

oh, my home monitor is a samsung syncmaster 213T. really nice colors and looks good, very good IMO, at 1600x1200. taks

yup, particularly at newegg. they have one of the most liberal return policies i've seen (well, since best buy used to accept any software within 30 days of purchase). i think this guy said "destroyed" not just "opened," but i agree with your point in either case. taks
