  1. ahem... warner is now a shoe-in for first ballot entry into the hall of fame. superbowl party at my house. of course, i had to curse bill bidwell when he was holding up the trophy. taks
  2. i'm naturally home in cold weather, anyway. when i ski i wear my thermals (top and bottom, duo-fold light-weight typically), a shell (columbia whirlybird, liner removed, haven't used this one yet, however) and uninsulated ski pants (basically gore-tex pants). nothing else other than gloves a light ski hat and a face mask for windy days. when it gets down below 10 i'll put on my hot chili thermal pants (thicker) and a long-sleeve shirt on top of my thermal shirt. i don't put the liner in my coat till below zero weather. of course, negative at the base is in the negative teens at the top... the only problem is my toes and that is dependent upon the depth of the snow. deeper snow sucks the heat out of your boots quicker, and i haven't found the right sock for those days (otherwise i use smart wool light hiker socks). taks
  3. hehe, that's what's nice about CO. cold isn't a big deal, at least, not when the wind is gone. smoke breaks during pool nights in a t-shirt, even in single digit weather, are pretty easy to manage. doesn't hurt to have some of that anti-freeze in your system, as i typically do on pool nights, but still... taks
  4. hmpf, you must be married, too, Deadly. taks
  5. which model? i've got the 52" W3000 (60 Hz LCD) and you need to be a pro to tell the difference between it and what would otherwise be the "top of the line." their new 52XBR6 is probably about as good as you'll find with an LCD. reading the one bad review at Best Buy and it looks like the guy's problem is that he's a moron that doesn't understand you can adjust your picture after they set it up! taks
  6. i've always heard that as lobsters get larger, the quality of their taste goes down. large freshwater trout taste worse with size, too. maybe it's due to the fact that they are garbage men of the sea, i.e., the longer they live, the more crap they eat that eventually degrades the taste of their meat? taks
  7. hmmm, my class doesn't start till the 26th. school officially starts on the 20th, with monday the 19th off for whatever reason, and i have a monday class. looking at the schedule, it might be that we don't start till the tuesday after MLK day. dunno, don't really care. i do need to get my lab handout updated, however, as well as my syllabus. i'm not going to test the students this time. that turned into a disaster last year since the lab isn't about instruction so much as application. taks
  8. thought you'd appreciate that, killiian. i don't really think it added "role-playing" options, it added a hindrance that was equally annoying as trucking back and forth from durlag's tower because i have more gems and scrolls than slots to store them. it was just a forced meta-game, IMO. gromnir gamed it by trudging back and forth ala durlag's tower, i gamed it by turning it off (and had a much more enjoyable game). hopefully TBH won't have it. taks
  9. it's a prequel, not sequel, sort of a "last stand of manhattan" story line. taks
  10. finally stopped snowing here. high winds, however, and the streets are messy, but we only got a few inches. if it had started last night rather than at 6:00 this a.m., none of the driving impaired would have gone in to work. instead, they all did, and it's going to be hell getting home at 5:00. hmmm, sounds like i'm leaving early today. taks
  11. OK, han**** 2 is being developed according to will smith, but not as far along as the second i am legend. his implication was that they are developing a complete world, which is really what was needed in the first, IMO. the interview is the last link at the wiki page. $625 million, btw. much bigger than i had thought. taks
  12. yes, that's what i was getting at. some of the backstory needed to be explained. it wasn't a really long flick so an extra 15 minutes with some flashbacks or something would have been beneficial. instead, we get them walking around with han**** asking questions about historical leaders. uninspiring. maybe if there's a second one we'll get more of the story. it did well in the theaters. taks
  13. i think it depends what type of business degree. my brother's was BSBA, but his emphasis was finance, not uncommon for stock brokers. he's actually a test (i think one) from being a CFA, which is not a simple task to accomplish. he's a regional manager for EDJ now. taks
  14. re-watched han**** the other night for the benefit of the wife. much better sober, at least, much easier to understand. still lacking in the overall exposition of what was really going on, but enjoyable nonetheless. if they had toned down smith's character's vulgarity (as well as a few kids') in the beginning i wouldn't have minded. it was excessive. not that i mind vulgarity in general, as i can have a sailor's tongue as well, but it was unnecessary, particularly coming from the kids. taks
  15. you're not right in the head, killian. taks
  16. good to see you back, sammael! as far as i'm concerned: NWN2 = fun game albeit a little annoying in some respects for reasons that aren't difficult to find everywhere on the web. i've replayed it a few times. never finished NWN1 once. MotB = really good if you turn off the spirit meter. SoZ = annoying. TBH = apparently missing sheep. if we go by kirottu and llyranor, there's a much deeper meaning to this last one that scares me. taks
  17. neither am i, but my first logistical instinct would be "if you want to live below sea level, buy a submarine, not a house." the next would be "or compromise and buy a boat and live on the sea." i've never really been in a submarine so i cannot comment, though i'm guessing a boat would be really, really cool to live on. taks
  18. interesting day... stomach has been bugging me a lot lately (functional dyspepsia) so i decided to eat a full lunch. mistake. went over to the school to change a student's grade from last spring (he had an incomplete) and was near one of the walgreens that was supposed to carry a probiotic supplement called Align GI, which is supposed to help with intestinal issues (my doc recommended it because there is otherwise no treatment for this diagnosis). they had some and i took one. hopefully after a few weeks my belly feels better. in the mean time, it is causing some changes and i haven't determined if they are for the better or not. i also took a xanax. made the tinnitus worse, but i'm rather relaxed now. i'm thinking about taking my son up to indigo joe's to watch the BCS championship tonight with a friend of mine, well, a couple hours of it while my wifey-pooh is still at the office. i can't drink, however, since i don't do that with the squirt around, particularly if i'm driving. taks
  19. they don't. apparently the closest they come is manning machine guns on humvees guarding truck convoys in iraq. doubtful that a woman marine is actually a "sniper," but they do get advanced infantry training for a month after basic. wiki has an article on women in combat, btw. taks
  20. 3 GB means you have one that's 2 GB and one that's 1 GB (most likely) which may not be good from a performance standpoint. typically the recommendation is that you use matching sticks, 2 at 1 GB each or 2 at 2 GB each (which is obvious for the dual-channel memory configuration). in other words, even though you don't get the whole 4 GB, your system might see an improvement due to speed over 3 GB. taks

  22. uh, new orleans. most of the city, or a very large portion of it, is actually built below the sea level. taks
  23. the glass parking lot option is always there. taks
  24. send me your resume... taks
  25. hehe, that's funny. uh, kinda what we do, guard dog. lots of consulting for stuff that no longer requires the GROL. the guy in the office next to mine has one from back when the GROL was required for everything. taks
