i think role-player is in portugal as well... lisbon, actually... am i right r-p? i read tolkein's works too early to comment what i think about them now. i was young so the things people complain about might not have been apparent at the time. j.r.r. was, however, a linguist. he enjoyed creating languages. the fantasy stories he wrote were just a result of the world he created full of several different languages, kind of a side item almost. taks

this is the area troika needs to work on a little more. they've run into the same problem three times in a row, with three different publishers. at some point, they need to recognize that maybe more of the burden for quality QA should be on their shoulders as they take the blame regardless of whether they do the QA or the publisher does the QA. taks

stevens was actually "taken" from the blues and there were rumors that some behind the scenes wrongdoing by the blues was behind it. i.e. they screwed up somewhere along the line and this was their punishment. as a result, they did not fight the acquisition. stevens was a protected player so he should never have been offered as compensation to the devils by the league... taks

so, if this is really global warming, why is it that 1) things were warmer in the 30s and 2) i've seen more single digit days this winter than any i've seen in my life? oh, and that's single digit fahrenheit... it was 3 F last night when i came home from shooting pool. hardly warmer. taks

So much for "no more mature topics in D&D"
taks replied to deganawida's topic in Computer and Console
the kids thing had little to do with D&D folks... the kids in ToEE were killable, which is illegal in germany. rather than just making them unkillable, they were yanked. taks -
a cookie to Kor Qel Droma! as a matter of fact i do... back in my bartending days i was out with several of the other staph members (yes, our shirts said staph on them) at Oz. (background: Oz is a dance club across the street from Pop's Saloon in Sauget, IL, just south of East St. Louis. bars in that area are allowed to be open 24 hours a day. Pop's closes sections of the bar for 20 minutes at a time to clean. Oz is only open till 6 am. a perfect place to go after getting off work at 3 am, however). anyway, hull, oates (i think he was there) roenick and somebody else from chi-town were there partying after a blues-blackhawks game (yes, they were all buddies, and hull is tiny). one of our beer tub girls walked up to the group and asked for hull's autograph. they all looked at her kinda arrogantly and said "are you going to bl** us all?" she said "no" after stammering for a few seconds and they immediately replied "then get the **** out of here!" she was aghast. if you ever figure this one out, let me know... best defenseman EVAR! damn that hurt losing him... given they didn't try to fight the outcome, i can only assume they really did do something wrong. taks

so far, i've heard of no consequences other than his company being sold off. he's already made his money off of the scam. taks

the creditors have control over that now.. well, the court, which will probably oversee liquidation efforts. this last bit, btw, typically means there will be an auction for the remaining assests, proceeds going towards debt repayment. which brings up a valid point: is any game company, particularly one that has developers that already worked with it, interested in the J engine and existing content? taks

my pool (uh, billiards) buddy is a big stars fan, but he's from galveston so i can forgive him. when they were still in minnesota, i was a fan, too. taks

25 years in the playoffs... the longest streak in professional sports... taks

nope... as i said, 25 years is the key. i'm not particularly a CO fan, either, btw... we have colorado college in town, and they're ranked #2 behind minnesota right now so maybe i'll switch to college nets. taks

i've been crying like a baby every time NHL playoffs come around... for 25 years now. see if you can figure out the significance of that number, btw, and then you'll understand my grief. taks

your mail client (or windows settings) most likely has a problem with web based email systems. i have the same problem. i.e. when an "automated" reply comes in from a web page, the server sees it as spam or something malevolent and blocks it. such blocks should be logged, IMO, so you can at least figure out where messages are getting dropped. i haven't figured out whether it's my client or my XP settings, however. XP does so much "automatic" crap that it's hard to tell where the blockage is occuring. i know for sure it's not my router (which has its own firewall to boot). taks

taks has been my nick for over 20 years... 25 actually. it didn't really set in till i was in high school, however, and there were 4 or 5 marks running around in our group. we all had to go by last names but shortened, due to stonedness i suppose. taks reared it's head again as a shorter version of my last name... as for the TRUE etymology of my last name, it is either rumanian (yes, spelled with a u) or hungarian and rumor has it the word means "shoemaker." i am not a shoemaker, however, nor was my grandfather, the last soul with the original name. taks

Stop the senseless violence against female villain
taks replied to Kaftan Barlast's topic in Way Off-Topic
well, spawn is a black guy... he made out pretty well. if you call being a hellspawn good i suppose. he's doing good things, kinda, in a screwed up sort of way at least. well, for a male hero to kill a male villain in some sick sexual manner makes even less sense if you think about it. however, even with that, they are not alone in this sense. how many tiimes does the villain try some gruesome manner of death for bond? how about with austin powers and the laser beam up the crotch idea? granted, these don't come to fruition, but the parallel is still there. taks -
Stop the senseless violence against female villain

uh, this is a movie about comic book heroes... they're always stereotypical and it really doesn't make a difference if it is a female or male villain (well, the end result doesn't... methods may depend on gender for sure). their "movitivations" are usually superficial at best and that is intentional. i.e. woman hating wolverine runs into bad chick deathstrike and rather than delve into some deep psychodrama, he goes straight for the kill because that's what he's supposed to do. this is actually part of the reason i've never really gotten into comic books... not that this is good or bad in general, it's just not an appealing thing to me. taks
