i got to see The Guess Who live when i worked as a bartender at the big kahuna in st. louis. it was our last day as a matter of fact. labor day weekend (sunday) in 1993 and they played outside on a coupla flatbed trailers. we knew the bar was closing but didn't care. it was a great concert, made a ton of money and had a blast that night... they really did put on a great show. taks

whoa... $10? sheesh... talk about your "luxury" taxes and all. i think it's still around $4 here. maybe they'll start doing that to soda some day? tax all of our vices! taks

uh, given that you (and i) post in here as if... well... just the fact that we'd be discussing such minutae rules out sanity. now or in the future. taks

agreed, but such diversions are not unusual. i feel terrible for the lives affected by this earthquake, but that does not excuse baseless claims by pseudo-scientists that wouldn't know the scientific method if they had to recite it daily. taks
-
then maybe you should lay off the crackpot pseudo-science claims??? a tragedy yes, but is that a good excuse for you to lay out your ridiculous claims? it is you that made mention of what may happen due to a shift... incorrectly. so tell me, who's trying to capitalize on tragedy? me with science, or you with ridiculous nonsense? not in the least. if you haven't figured it out by now, i refute false claims in any thread i encounter them. once you get past this simple truth, maybe you'll wise up for future debate? taks

originally, coke was made from cane sugar but it switched to corn syrup due to costs (and maybe restrictions during WW2, which drove up costs...). AFAIK, they ALL use corn syrup now (well, obviously diet sodas don't)... taks

did you even bother to read the links i provided? darque, i deal in facts and provable science... not pseudo-science such as what you often fall for. when you get over this penchant, you'll be a much more believable debater. coincidentally, you still have not provided any "evidence" that the last polar shift "nearly wiped us out." maybe it's because, as i stated, you have no case. taks

i think your dad was pulling your leg. i will admit, however, that soda of any sort is hard on my stomach. of course, if i drink a glass of water on an empty stomach i get heartburn so it's not a surprise that soda causes the same... grrr. taks

i never said losing our magnetic field wouldn't be bad, btw... just that a shift in the poles isn't bad. the solar wind is exactly the reason we need the field. taks
-
darque, you said "and the last pole shift almost wiped us out." which is UNTRUE!!! i've shown you why... prove it otherwise. taks
-
btw, creative has a digital 5.1 speaker set that might work. taks
-
you said you have evidence... but i started out with the debunking first so it might be hard for you to prove. taks

RCA, actually, which is a coax... 75 ohms. do a search on S/PDIF or SPDIF and you'll find plenty of information. i've never actually hooked up my CD player's SPDIF connection, nor have i knowingly used one. however, if that's what "they" say we're using for surround, then it must be true! taks
-
btw... before you go posting your "evidence" i'll start off with the following: space.com article and another space.com article and finally British Geological Survey a good line from this one in answer to the question "Is there any danger to life?"... which is "Almost certainly not." a good discussion thread at BA can be found here. sooooo, darque, maybe you're checking the wrong sites? hype != science, remember that rule first and things get easier. taks

i can't vote on this... out of a can, i drink pepsi. it's less fizzy and tastes better to me in this case. out of a fountain, i drink coke. they're never mixed right and the CO2 pumps don't make it as fizzy as the cans. as a result, coke tastes better in this case (pepsi is too flat sometimes out of a fountain). taks

if you're referring to the precessional wobble of the earth, it has nothing to do with the earth's orbit around the sun. it's the wobble of the earth around its axis, which occurs on a 26,000 year cycle and it has a rather large impact on climate... taks

several million, actually, if you want to go back to zinjanthropus and all... and the poles shift around all the time without ill affect. this last bit is untrue, darque, unless you have some evidence? taks

i figured that much... i have 7 or so to deal with. data strewn everywhere. more of a hassle than anything. mark

you apparently don't understand a thing i said. i cannot be held accountable for your lack of understanding of economic theories. again... btw, what exactly does this have to do with what i said? where did i say this? please elaborate. do i need to educate you in the basics? for those who don't seem to understand common sense, let's put it bluntly. restricting any natural resource through regulation limits economic growth. it is a fact and that is the goal as well. limited economic growth reduces environmental impact on the surface. or so it would seem... the long term affects of draconic restrictions and layers of bureaucracy is, as intended, reduced growth in the economy. this results in higher costs for the consumers which results in less consumption. yadda yadda yadda... less consumption means less jobs. less jobs means more poverty. you fanatics don't see the forest through the trees. sure, it's all well and good but at what cost? your quotes from the article: how exactly is this bad? are you saying it's OK to damage the economy, and reduce our standard of living, to save a tree? again, how is this bad? they've removed a layer of bureaucracy. maybe now they can actually devote their resources to solutions that work for everybody, and everthing, rather than individual entities. what??? do you really mean that making such a statement is OK if it's from some ELF representative that thinks it's OK to burn houses (further damaging the environment, ironically), but not from somebody who's income depends on the viability of such resources? great idea but it came from the wrong mouth? you're joking, right? i think you need to re-evaluate some things here... your double standard isn't just obvious, it's ridiculous. taks -
allllllrighty then... in an attempt to justify a new upgrade to my computer, i convinced my su... er, wife that we needed to upgrade HER computer in order to do the things she'd like to do. in particular, i, er, she has a camcorder but no way to record the film to DVD. her current system is an old P3, 800 MHz job with only 128 MB of PC100 SDRAM. running XP is obviously out. long story short (filled mostly with obtuse rationalizations that convinced only me this upgrade is necessary... she just went a long for the ride), as a result, i decided the best option would be to give her my current system sans video card, provide a few upgrades to her as well, and then build a new system with the video card as a base (oh, i'm keeping the case, too...) so here it is: wife gets: 1800+ w/1.25 GB PC2700 DDR RAM running XP home on a epox EP8K5A2+ mobo, 3 HDDs with 60 GB, 15 GB and 7 GB respectively (i'm not going to JBOD them since it slows things down). the 7 GB job may go away since it isn't even UDMA 66. a new MX440 video card and a new samsung 16X TS-H552B DVD burner (both arrived today). she also gets a nifty antec case that's supposed to be real quiet and came with a 380 W tru-power supply (i have a 430 tru-power that i may swap out since she has the three drives, CD Rom and DVD burner all pumping). an older visiontek scanner that works quite well. a nice HP printer that's a few years old (i may take this for schoolwork and buy a new one for her, not in a hurry though). she'll also get my SB Live Value! sound card though i'm not sure it's any better than the realtek chip on-board... i get: Athlon 64 3200+ Winchester core (90 nm), ASUS A8V Deluxe mobo, OCZ EL platinum rev 2 dual channel memory (2X512MB), WD400JD Caviar 40 GB SATA HDD and an eVGA TI6800 video card (got this a few months ago when the 4600 shot craps). i'm still using the 19" "flat screen" viewsonic monitor (distortion problems on the edges) but it has great color and brightness for a trinitron clone. the new mobo has 8 channel sound so no more sound card for me, either. i can't wait to get home and start building... gotta figure out how to transfer all my data around, however. hmmm.... taks

you people just don't get it... it's amazing that emotion can override common sense even in educated individuals. self serving bureaucracies do not help the environment. remember, WE are part of the environment, too. stifling economic growth is tantamount to forcing poverty on us. use a little common sense and get over your fanatical idealism and maybe you'll be able to see how things work in the real world. taks -
oh, btw, our obviously geeky fascination with such things also jades our ability to judge a game as an average gamer. we tend to be overly sensitive to things that don't necessarily bother the masses. nothing wrong with that, of course, just pointing it out... taks
