  1. hmm... i'm at level 22 now, and a vamp. been one since nearly the beginning of the game. somehow, however, it has decided to only give me the lower powers recently, and i'm not bothered by sunlight anymore. i can only carry 530, but that's enough to make dungeon runs worthwhile and i'm wearing deadric armor now (very heavy). strange game. the last two gates i did were actually easy for some reason. most of them have those blasted storm astronach's (sic?) which are nigh impossible to kill if they start hitting you (stagger mode while they keep a wailin'). the last two, however, had only the daedric magic users and a couple of the dudes weilding claymores. it is moronic in places, too... i think my security skill is 26 but i can pick anything. even the very hard locks. the lock picking thing is so screwy (made worse by my wireless mouse) that i could care less about saving and reloading while i pick away. oh, and kaftan is right, this whole recharging swords thing is totally ridiculous. one or two fights and it's done. the problem is that the magic doubles the effectiveness. this is needed to prevent frequent reloads if you're battling. and the mess with soul gems? oof... just plain ridiculous. taks
  2. they were "one" people. everyone fit the "brand" so to speak. i'm not completely sold, but there is some surprising evidence to back the claim. taks
  3. my god, has that author EVER taken an english course? that was terribly hard to read. ugh. i think, in the end, the RIAA will eventually just not matter anymore. the record companies are really shooting themselves in the foot over these sorts of things. taks
  4. i read something somewhere that discussed the concept of being united, but not "as one". it particularly cited this as the ultimate downfall of all civilizations that fail. maybe it was something done by the guns, germs and steel author. i can't remember, i'll look it up. the basis was that societies need a cohesive "one" concept otherwise their own diversity will rip them to shreds. taking a look around the world, right now, nearly all domestic upheavals are due to cultural differences within individual countries. mexicans protesting in the US (er, illegal immigrants, most of whom are mexican), muslims refusing to assimilate in france, three different groups in iraq (sunni, shiite, kurd), etc. everyone wants their own identity, while expecting everyone else to accept them for who they are regardless of human nature which almost instinctively fears that which is different... perhaps the idea is not as far fetched as it may seem? anyway, that's where my comments came from. i'm not sure if i agree or not yet. it needs more thought. taks
  5. vicarious... got the mp3 off the web. i don't feel guilty because i plan to buy the CD when it is released... taks
  6. though i think the "older 'n that" theory is actually correct, so neither one actually build the damned things. taks
  7. according to wiki: so i was half right.. taks
  8. ah, kufu... so many egyptian rulers, so little time. taks
  9. the official "egyptologist" stance is that the sphinx was built by the early egyptians and the great pyramid was built by khafre (uh, check that last name). should the erosion theory be right, both were around thousands of years before khafre (or whomever) existed. taks PS: never heard of no egypt-ions.
  10. that's exactly my point. and exactly why it won't work. taks
  11. uh, i hate to point out to whichever idiot in the world managed to come up with this nonsense, but the EU is hardly "united." in fact, they're self destructing and until they recognize the fact that the government cannot be the answer to all of a nation's problems, this self destruction will continue unabated. it doesn't help, either, that single nations need some form of "identity" to survive. france is fighting desparately to hold on to its own, as well are other countries. the only way the EU will ever really be "united" is if they all decide to play as if there is only one sandbox, and one blended culture. at the very least, in the end, canadian and US cultures are really not all that different. taks
  12. both of these are treaties, which are within the realms of presidential/congressional power. "joining" another country is not. unless said other country wants to join with us, as a state, and then they'll have to go through the entire process. in the end, however, the US would still remain the US as a sovereign nation. but there's nothing saying we couldn't have more states. taks
  13. uh, you can have it... move there and get it for yourself. i'll continue paying for far better health care here, thank you. taks
  14. wow, i thought you were past AWOL into complete desertion around here... there will always be a 'trick', sort of like the eyeless one in BG2, maybe? taks
  15. oops, not zacharia sitchin, john anthony west. i'm certain sitchin believes them, however. taks
  16. i think this bosnian thing may lend credence to the claims. maybe there was an advanced civilization on earth long before currently acknowledged. now, the question becomes, what happened to them? taks
  17. if you believe robert schock and zacharia sitchin, yes... schock is credible, a geologist, and he has put the age of at least the sphinx in the 7500 to 10000 years based on water erosion in the area. there also is zero evidence of the pyramids being built by egyptians anyways... oh, and i just noticed, mothman is up on the current state of affairs. what he said. taks
  18. somehow the pending movie "The Planet of the Chimpanzees" does not seem to have the same impact... taks
  19. yeah, but i'm not sure that's what's going on... by metal grate, i'm referring to a metal rack (i should've said rack in the first place, as grate does seem to imply the door structure), which has relatively wide open sections, and uninterrupted lengths of metal in excess of 12 cm (microwaves are in the 2 GHz neighborhood, which is 15 cm). the grate on the front of the wave is designed to reflect waves back in. the rack itself, however, is a different beastie (well, it seems to be). taks
  20. actually, the metal acts as an antenna of sorts, the heat is the least of your problems. sparks, etc., are what you'll see if you accidentally put, say, a fork in there. mine is weird, however, as it has a metal grate in it, which i have yet to figure out. it must be directional... taks
  21. my god... isn't she a bit young to be hardened and bitter already? is there no shame?... oh, and role-player, i'm not sure what scares me more, the fact that you're doing it, or talking about it so openly... probably the latter because you seem to mention that sort of behavior OFTEN!!! taks
  22. AHA!! i finally beat the bum vampyres. i started using my dwarven hammer, and i sigiled it with a +15 frost. i got that one in a real pain of a gate, too. three towers, and you had to find a lever in each of the two side towers first, then make it to the middle and shut it all down. got two grand soul gems and a host of uber equipment in the mean time (as well as two levelups). it was difficult. the vamps dropped like flies after that. i think i'm getting the hang of my power attack, too. i still hate having to rely on user skillz ala FPS games, however... but it's worth it in this CRPG drought. taks
  23. you realize newsted is gone now, right? taks
  24. does my damage automatically go up with increased blade skill? taks
  25. oh, it follows me outside fine... the sun does not matter. no effect at all that i can tell. yeah, better weapon... sheesh. might as well just suffer for a while. taks
