  1. well, yes and no. it's not like we're cutting trees down without replacement. certainly not ALL plant-life is being replaced, but much of it is (fly over washington and you can see the new growth, btw). also, plants and trees are not the only carbon sinks in the world. taks
  2. read the thread on the ozone where we discuss hype. no, it's not. show me what is bad about CO2, particularly noting that human life evolved at a time when CO2 levels were MUCH higher than they are today. remember, current levels are measure in parts per million (ppm). the running estimate is about 350 ppm, or 0.035% of the atmosphere. CO2 is essential for life on this planet, it is not a pollutant no matter how many newspapers claim otherwise. you really should try to understand the science behind your claims before making them. the US? funny, but all of europe and asia are making BIG money trading carbon credits. it turns out their so-called "environmentalism" is nothing more than a big capitalistic trading scheme. pot. kettle. black. btw, the US cares plenty and the reasons we aren't force feeding nonsense on our public (yet) is not because it is simply a waste of money. it is because there is no benefit. and most that have have already stated that it is worthless, it will cost TRILLIONS with ZERO benefit. is that shocking? most countries are already talking about getting out of it, btw, so the US won't be alone shortly. so, is this rant about protecting the environment or your hatred of capitalism and the US? seems i am right about agendas. really... taks
  3. hehe... now for something completely different! taks
  4. hehe, slap it in a little blue box with bright red letters and you're sold, eh? me, i prefer the cartoons, but never listen to commercials. well, subliminally i do, but never on purpose. taks
  5. the socialist mantra. govmint good, corporate bad. typical response from kaftan, he tends to see conspiracy in corporate methods (capitalism). oh, and no, i don't see conspiracy in socialism necessarily (though many that advocate it could be considered conspirators i suppose). my beef is that it just don't work. taks PS: i'm not intentionally picking on kaftan, it's just that he made the comment which we seem to have diverged into discussing. it could have been anybody with similar views.
  6. i would recommend you post this in the developer's corner for maximum effect. taks
  7. ? so... i never criticized what he did, i criticized the view itself. his position is that "corporations bad, government good". this is the same liberal/socialist nonsense we get pounded with every day in the media. there's apparently boatloads of corporate propaganda out there, but i have yet to figure out who is propagating it because it sure isn't the media. commercials? maybe a few, but for chrissakes, they're commercials, not news. taks
  8. sarcasm? uh, kaftan is rather open about his left of center viewpoint (at least compared to me) if that was what you were referring to? otherwise, liberal (uh, extreme) ideas regarding the environment are, in my opinion, extremely disingenuous. science is merely a distraction when socialist policies are concerned. furthermore, the media love to hop on a bandwagon and continually over-emphasize, and even lie about, nearly every environmental position that has ever been debated. so, no, no sarcasm. taks
  9. which conclusion would that be? taks
  10. the problem, however, is that there is no definition of "excessive" out there when it comes to CO2 in the atmosphere. our current levels are less than 1/10th what they have been during recent ice ages even (and probably only 1% of peak values in the distant past). good/bad value judgements on CO2 are a waste of energy. i suppose it depends upon point of view... taks
  11. or maybe folks like you have been exposed to too much liberal (read: socialist) nonsense? i just love it when people try to blame corporations for everything bad. taks
  12. uh, CO2 is plant food... you know that, right? taks
  13. agreed. this is probably the number one complaint i've heard, btw. scaling as it should be implemented is to have default levels for certain areas. typically, as you progress through the game, the newer areas you encounter are harder. the scaling comes into play when you are going into an area and they adjust the difficulty plus or minus from the default to make it tough for you, but not overpowering. however, the plus/minus is limited to make sure that you aren't dropping in to areas you shouldn't be in (insta death situations... "i'll come back later"), but also that some areas just plain get easy to deal with later. taks
  14. the fast day/night cycle is bad if you're a vampire, which i am. the scaling system is the most ridiculous thing i've ever seen. total joke. i can't even begin to describe how ridiculous that is. oh it gripes me. this is probably the one thing that has made me not like the game above all else. once nwn2 comes out, it will get shelved permanently right next to morrowind. the levelling system is number two on my list, but if the scale joke went away, it would be fine to level based on major skills as it is. other than that... taks
  15. dang gromnir, you poor old sense making bastard! taks
  16. oh, and they didn't just "want to impeach" clinton... they did it. taks
  17. uh, lying under oath is a felony. learn the law. taks
  18. ouch, this really has you burned grommie. phew, don't piss off gromnir. anyway, the more i read and hear the german mag quote, the more i think that the original english was "at least 20 hours" and "few people will finish in UNDER twenty hours" though it would be nice if we could get a little verification. just my dime's worth (inflation). taks
  19. this is part of the reason i intend to homeschool my son. taks
  20. yes 30 lashes with a wet noodle. taks
  21. hehe, on a national, not individual, level. taks
  22. the whole desert thing was due to natural causes, though human influence probably helped, but it couldn't have been much. if there was a society 10-15,000 years ago, they had to be relatively small compared to classical ancient egypt - which was already in a near desert by the time of classical ancient egypt - otherwise we would have found more evidence of their existence. of course, ancient egyptians, the classical ones, could have done a genocide to their predecessors, though i don't think they were really like that... taks
  23. there's like 30 differentiations now... taks
  24. actually, i knew what it was, but i thought the main quest was more important. i also did not realize that my swords would last one or two fights and that's it. total joke. taks
  25. my heavy is near 100... and i already gave the unlimited use stone to the new emperor dude. my gripe with the unlimited use soul gem is: why the hell did they make it part of the main quest? i mean, c'mon, how tarded must you be? taks
