  1. the US didn't actually lose a single battle in vietnam. we certainly lost a lot of people. we simply lost the propaganda war back home and had to pull out. that's not to say it was a good idea... just that calling vietnam a "loss" really isn't very accurate. taks
  2. yeah, but not because of france. i said that... taks
  3. touche! good catch! taks
  4. i don't know... maybe having a revolution every other year or so changes your collective outlook? taks
  5. i think the cold beat them down more than anything. lesson to us all: you can't fool mother nature! oh, and btw, nor can you kick her but in a fight! taks
  6. nobody said it was a bad thing... just pointed out that it is what it is. they are a news sight, but the hard-core codexers are EXTREMELY biased, and it shows in nearly every post they make. like i said, however, with the influx of bethesda lovers, it is changing a bit. i agree, however, that slapping a label on them saying "they believe this" or "they believe that" is unfair, as there is diversity, a little bit, in many of the codexer. vol and i do draw a lot of heat for our views on troika... he's the red-headed step-child over there. it's sort of like animal house... everyone has to have their bluto, well, the codex needs it's volourn. taks
  7. both actually... there are a few threads in the general discussion area that prove A. taks
  8. unfortunately, from the viewpoint of the humor offered by such an attitude, they are changing rapidly over there. more and more bethesda fans are signing up and the old, hostile, regulars are really getting pushed out. heck, there's even a thread asking where st. proverbius has been (he's actually a lesser-hostile, compared to folks like VD). that's funny. and i agree. i always figured you had some reason for posting over there, btw. their attitude certainly does not fit with the educated sort, unless you get the humor, irony and pure hypocrisy of everything they say. taks
  9. excuse me? hardly... you're not making sense, moose? taks
  10. they didn't face hitler, did they? they didn't even have to yell "I surrender" when he walked in. they just handed over the keys to the kingdom. dunno, but they lost, didn't they? taks
  11. no need to invade... we'd just walk right in! taks
  12. you have to admit, it would be... interesting! really, if you want social liberalism, i'd be all over it. you'd just have to put up with my hard core capitalist based everything else. taks
  13. uh, the deals were specifically for support, steve. saddam was bribing everyone to help his cause. i mean, how much more does it need to be? france isn't an opponent, they're just a bunch of cheese eatin' surrender monkeys. ;0 taks
  14. oh, the codex is a hoot. you have to get established before the moron comments go away, but other than that it's nothing more than a bunch of whining children... oh, kinda like that picture above. heck, i even got called a retard the other day. too bad the retard misread my post 'cause he could have really hammered me for being a retard about something else, and he would have been right, but instead, he had to accept the leftovers of my own self deprication! taks
  15. ya'll oughtta let me do it. imagine the fallout. taks
  16. this i don't doubt... well, stabilization was a stated goal, stretching it a bit further is not out of the question. i don't think anybody truly thought that, nor do i ever recall hearing any official state this. lots of mistakes along the way, but not so stupid as to think there's enough oil to pay for the war. that's simple math. yes and no. well, hard to say. nobody ever said it would be easy, just the extent of how hard it would be is an issue. oh well... uh... how DARE you! there is NO better thing to base your pride on. well, maybe a little... no, that's worse. yes, beer. national pride. taks
  17. uh, not sure where you were, but france had oil deals with saddam, behind the scenes, that they stood to lose. it was part of their agreement with saddam in return for support. i didn't comment on that, now, did i? the point that you seemed to miss, is france's hypocrisy. and, if you'd like to discuss getting our hands on the oil, i think you should note that the amount of money we spent going in would require oil to be almost given away in order for us to benefit. so much for your argument, eh? taks
  18. yeah... france... see, on topic. didn't know about the new beers. i did know about the triple bock, but did not realize it was the record holder, either. the swiss beer was not very good, btw. my buddy and i started an around the world thing (down in florida) one night and managed around 20 of the 80 required. we were cut off simply because of our count... damn bartender. swiss chocolate barfage was around 15 or so... we were pretty much out of it by then, however. taks
  19. france did its best to protect its own oil interests, nothing more. taks
  20. ? are you sure... i've had a swiss beer that was 17% alcohol. this must be a new beer... the swiss stuff tasted like chocolate, btw. taks
  21. gak! oh yeah, you're an FF nut... console gaming hoorah! hehe... i'm going to watch reviews. no more toee hose jobs for me. no console for me, either. at least, not till the squirt is old enough to play games with me. taks
  22. it's not that big... much smaller than morrowind. they said 16 square miles... of course, one moron reviewer thought that meant 16x16 instead of 4x4. also, they have other, point-to-point transportation modes, from what i understand. taks
  23. AHA! beat ya'll to the punch!... finally, a new game to play. http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/693/693106p1.html taks
  24. with very few exceptions, sequels typically underperform the original. this goes for movies, too. bioware is in a unique position in that they have the clout to develop their own IP now (or at least branch off with IP that has never been developed for crpgs). this allows them to avoid sequelitis (which causes pigeonholing) and always release fresh ideas. at least, fresh in the sense that their ideas aren't necessarily a follow-on to something previous. for bioware, this is good as they don't have to be judged against previous releases. BG2 was compared to BG1, for better or worse. Kotor 2 was compared to Kotor 1. NWN 2 will be compared to NWN 1. Oblivion will be compared to Morrowind... see the trend? sometimes it works (Morrowind compared to Daggerfall is a good example) but not always (Fallout 2 is usually compared less than favorably to Fallout 1). taks
  25. yah, i knew that. hehe, knew that, too, but haven't read it in years. nope, eulogy is about christ. "you claim you would die for me, why then are you so surprised when you hear your own eulogy" taks
