  1. you need to check your facts on this. the supreme court did not ban teaching creationism. it merely struck down a law that required teaching it if evolution was taught. i.e. they didn't say you couldn't teach it, they said you couldn't force schools to teach it alone. edwards vs. aguillard. while certainly the argument that creationism shouldn't be taught in schools as science fact is legit, muddying the waters with false statements doesn't help your argument. taks
  2. so, i guess we also have to toss all laws based on the 10 commandments, right? thou shalt not kill and all that... taks
  3. LOL you can't read. i'm not comparing movies to rpgs. i'm merely pointing out that forced companions are common-place in a variety of story-telling forms. movies are one, so are a vast quantity of video games. taks
  4. no kidding. ah, who cares, let the sheep graze. taks
  5. wow. rockage. taks
  6. there's a scroll bar. you can fit 8 on the screen without it in 1024x768. taks
  7. same here. if i didn't have a job, i wouldn't have any time to post in here! taks
  8. figured you would. while i have much less power than this, i can run the game fine though not at high settings. i have a 6800 w/128 MB upped to a GT (extra pipes minus overclocking), only 1 GB of RAM and a lowly AMD64 3200+. i also have an audigy 2. i've heard of issues with the core2s, but not from everyone. i think it is hit or miss. it also depends upon what you call "good graphics." some are complaining they only get 30 fps (some only 10, of course). otherwise, you shouldn't have a problem, particularly if you have a clean build of winders. taks
  9. Bah. This country hasn't been called Yugoslavia for some 5 years or more. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> holy cow! he lives... taks
  10. you mean "the majority of Republican politicians," right? guard dog has a pretty good point, too. there's a difference between pushing ideas based on your moral background, e.g. religion, and advocating for government acknowledgement of a specific religion. all people base their opinions on some, personal, moral guidelines (though some seem to have very loose guidelines). that they may be based on religious teachings is in no way contrary to the constitution. taks
  11. was your whole party standing there, or off to the side somewhere? they keep "finding" my stealthed rogue. as a matter of fact, creatures find even my invisible characters. taks
  12. lame because the majority of us spend this much time posting with strangers on a message board. in some sense, we are all "friends," even when debating and spewing our normal brand of illogic. taks
  13. man, we're lame. has anyone bothered to notice how much time we sit in here discussing this game? heck, it was bad enough before NWN2 came out. go to bed: check the forum. get up and get to work: check the forum. heck, i'm working now, too. ugh. i'm actually running an excessively long compile at the moment. taks
  14. well, i shoulda said "these goblins are dumb." taks
  15. the point you missed was that forced characters are not unusual in other story-telling fora. an rpg is simply a big story that plays out before you, with most of your control. sometimes there are events that are beyond your control. sometimes you get stuck with someone you don't want to be with, but in the end, it adds to the mix. taks
  16. yeah... goblins are dumb, too. suddenly the glowstone would disappear, and they'd all be looking around for the culprit but unable to find him (uh, her with neeshka). you conveniently hid the rest of your party near the exit awaiting the goodies. oh, and i never understood the hide in plain sight thing. maybe they need to qualify it with some sort of smoke effect in which you duck out... dunno. taks
  17. if the game were as hard as IWD2, i'd be happier with this method. as it is, however, it makes it too easy. taks
  18. it advances the story. these players are central to the story, for one reason or another, and their presence advances it. i've already mentioned even similar scenarios in movies. aren't certain characters in PS also "forced" on the PC? obviously not to you. indeed. taks
  19. i realize that. but i would have liked the stealth operation with neeshka in stealth mode. wasn't in a judge/jury/executioner mode at the time... taks
  20. the majority of americans in general don't want gay marriage, btw. republicans or otherwise. the last OK taboo i guess. taks
  21. of course, you could always kill the dryad, but i didn't want to do that, either. taks
  22. one poor design decision i wasn't thrilled with, btw, was the glow stone thingy. the goblins are nice to you, so you should at least be given an option to steal the stone without having to "run for your lives" or kill them all (you aren't really running for your lives at that point since the battle would be over with one fireball). taks
  23. i didn't say there weren't forced on you. you said "Plus, in NWN2, you can *never* kick them out of your group." this is just plain not true. as soon as you go back to the inn, you can boot them. period. well, yes and no. there is a section, all within one building, where some guards along with the guy you are guarding are added, but you can't control them (other than commands) and they are part of the group battle that ensues. you say tomato i say tomahto. i don't mind it. oh well. taks
  24. well, not really. it is really not much different than when they go back to the merc store in NWN1. the difference is that you don't have to strike up a conversation to bring them back along. they are still sort of "part of the group" w.r.t. story and all that, but only when you're back at the inn. taks
  25. fortunately, a good supply is probably only $100 or so online, and if you get a big one, you can use it for years. taks
