my woes are deepening. 5-1 loss to the next to last place team solidifies the term "st. looooser blues." ugh. taks
  2. oh, as in there may be some "double secret probation" type roadmap that even they do not know about? that would be cool. taks
  3. first 3 letters of my last name, with an s since calling me "tak" just doesn't flow. this has been my nick since i was probably 12 or so (26 years ago), on and off line. taks
  4. that sounds like a good idea. taks
  5. lewt works, too. but phat is definitely the preferred lee7 spelling. taks
  6. i managed to solve my problem last night. taks
  7. which is what bums me out about the decline of AMD. they're using the HT interface, removing the bridges, and it is incredibly fast (and reliable). they just need to get their cores up to snuff. from what i've seen of their roadmap, nothing major is planned other than more cores per chip. taks
  8. no it's not. that's not even true. your initial premise is flawed, therefore the rest of your argument is as well. first, not all republicans want to do everything possible to eliminate arabs. second, even in the most conservative states of the south, the split is still no better than 60-40 in voting trends, and probably 1/10 of the 60% represent the hardline "right wing" anyway. most of the world is deeply religious. north and south US included. taks
  9. the obvious, but tedious, method would be to uninstall, reinstall and then find the 1.02 patch. i'd imagine, however, that the rollback capability is in the same location as the old patches. i remember seeing some posts regarding rollback with the final version of 1.3, btw. over at the bio forum. you don't have to log in to read any of those posts... taks

below 3 GAA and around .900 are good starter stats. under 2.5 GAA is getting really good, though that number is definitely impacted by shots faced. i.e. you can have a .9 save, but face 40+ shots and you're still giving up 4 goals. this was the problem liut faced for so many years with the blues. taks

actually, last year he was 2.19 GAA with a .915 save pctg. lifetime he's 2.31 and .914 resp., and his last three years he was below 2.2 GAA every year. he was great, but the quality of shots he faced was probably lower due to an elite defense. taks

yeah, true. they've spent a lot of money this year to offset the laurie's purge from last year. the talent they've bought, however, just isn't producing. legace does not have the same defense as he had when doing so well with detroit, either, so the shots he's facing are much tougher to save. taks

now i'm even more depressed. we still have over half the season left to get worse. distinguised you say? grrrr... taks

at least you aren't rooting for the st. loser blues. gah, it is depressing. i was saying bye-bye to the playoffs after 2 or 3 games into the season. st. louis would still be near the bottom if the 3rd period were removed. you'd have to remove all 3, then use a loaded coin-toss to improve them. taks
  15. i think many genocides that are committed purely for the joy are still disguised as providing some benefit to the people being led down that path. hitler is a good example. he was such a good propagandist that he was able to remove the moral reprehension of exterminating jews from the minds of the people he led. the same could be said for stalin, though he used fear to scare his people into believing in him. in general, i'd guess most people agree that such atrocities are reprehensible. it takes some great effort to remove that feeling from a population. charsimatic leaders have, for whatever reason, been able to do this time and time again. taks
  16. samurai's list is pretty good, though i'd still opt for the E6400 as it is only $40 or so more expensive. kroney, you're saying essentially the same thing i'm saying. any upgrades to older architectures are obsolete in the very near future (RAM and CPU in particular) while providing very little benefit. a dual core AMD, for example, will net you the 4x00+ performance gain for sure, but the extra core does very little unless you're multitasking. the new architecture route, however, requires changing half a dozen components and quickly gets spensive. yes, mammaries, btw. i have them on the mind at the moment. taks
  17. ya'll are convinced the people on tv are a good cross-section of the public at large. not so. both men and women are, on average, not what i'd like to see running around nekkid. besides, even if they (women) were all worthy of being publicly nekkid, that would spoil all the fun of your imagination. just thought i'd throw in my two cent's worth of thread closure. hehe... taks
  18. necessary then vs. necessary now are two different arguments i think. at some point, we will eventually become one global "community," perhaps as a result of contact with another, extra-solar (i.e. alien), society or perhaps simply through the trend of globalization that is underway. in any event, at that point, conquering within the planet will become a moot point (uh, not mute as many often state), but it may take on planetary form ala star trek, star wars, etc. who knows. we'll all be dead by the time that happens. taks
  19. uh, i have to disagree with this statement. there exists a classified network across the US specifically set up for contractor communication. it still has to route through the phone system, which means there is still a potential for breach. NASA is, without a doubt, on this network. this has nothing to do with the IT department. or steal classified information. see above point. taks
  20. LOL! of course, i'm sure you remember the comments you made a while back regarding the inappropriate use of the word "ironic" when in fact someone intends "incongruous." taks
  21. yeah, but for me that means cpu + mobo + vid card + mammaries. still almost a grand down the tubes. if i wait it out, i can do the same for probably $500 in 6 months. i'm not hurting now anyway. i can run oblivion fine, as well as nwn2 and i don't play any shooters (though, even for a game like FEAR, i get 40+ fps... no need for 150 or whatever). the next real taxing game i'm interested in buying is dragon age, and that's 18 months out. gots time. taks
  22. gromnir, ironic or incongruous? taks
  23. i agree that waiting for the next big thing can be an eternal stretch. i just see the market as going through certain architecture leaps. we just made one huge leap, and the rest will be incremental till the next huge leap probably 4 or 5 years in the future. once the current leap is affordable, that's what i'll do. that'll allow me several incremental upgrades over the course of the next 4 or 5 years. i've done this several times, btw. my wife is using my last iteration, as a matter of fact. taks
  24. for the record, i don't see any advantage of dual/quad core over a single core cpu. the only real benefit now is simply the fact that a single core of the core 2 is amazingly fast by its own right. the dual/quad core paradigm will be around for some time, with compatible mobos to boot as well as PCIe and other minutae. i'm just waiting for the prices to come down into the "i don't have to break the bank to get a good system" land. if i were a developer, OTOH, optimizing code for a hefty signal processing application, the dual/quad core issue would be a very big deal. oh wait, i am. now they just need to get the power down to usable levels (try to fly a core 2 in a UAV... you'll be laughed out of the room). this latter reason, btw, is why companies are taking notice of low-power, multi-core alternatives. i suppose my job depends on this, as a matter of fact. taks
  25. it's not a matter of waiting for the next big thing, it's a matter of waiting to afford the current big thing which will allow future upgrades without having to shoot for the whole wad all at once. right now, moving into a future-upgradeable system requires a bunch of expensive upgrades. in 6 months, it will be much cheaper to move into what is now a fairly expensive system. then, once you've made the leap, you can piecemeal the rest of your system for several years. the system i'm currently running is probably 3 years old. my only remaining upgrade options are the dual-core AMD and memory. however, once i spend the money on that, i can go no further with my system (other than miscellaneous stuff like extra memory). even with this upgrade, i will _still_ have a rather low-end system. not really worth the bucks. taks
