  1. Yes you right, Cape Town does provide shelters for homeless people to sleep in that are free but some people still refuse to use them and that creates a problem which is why we need to enforce the bylaws. Here is another link that highlights this https://www.iafrica.com/cts-by-law-on-fines-for-homeless-violates-rights-says-sahrc/
  2. This type of behavior is unacceptable, I can understand wanting to immigrate to the USA but then taking part in some protest where you vandalize and destroy the flag of the country you want to live in cannot be condoned or accepted by rationale people. It just encourages anti-immigration sentiment and feeds Trumps irrational views around immigration and the solutions to address the border problems People must stop blaming government institutions like ICE for trying to enforce there mandate....they trying to do an almost impossible job so why blame them?
  3. In Cape Town we are trying to find practical solutions to address homelessness and help motivate people not to beg because it leads to crime and people feeling unsafe when they walk the streets Our major is enforcing certain bylaws that make it illegal to sleep on the streets and to make fires in the evening in certain areas. It has been heavily criticized by some and incorrectly characterized as "anti-poor " and " criminalizing homelessness " ....but its intention is not that at all. Sometimes you try to do the right thing and people just want to tear you down https://www.okayafrica.com/south-africas-cape-town-city-is-fining-people-for-being-homeless/
  4. People travel to countries and or immigrate to countries and end up not having money and needing to beg or raise money for further initiatives based on numerous factors It shouldn't be framed as a racial story or a Western story which in this type of narrative is about race . Also how do we know the people in the videos can afford the " normal costs "
  5. Yes Ktchong, its possible and real that you will find white people on the streets begging or asking for money. The same as you find other races begging or on the streets And I will share some other facts with you so these types of stories arent so newsworthy for you . White people go to jail, they commit crimes, they eat food , we need air to breath and we feel emotions and even live in poverty and rely on government social grants ....exactly the same as other races. Anything you not sure about white people you must just ask me and I'll explain
  6. I am always surprised by the arrogance and actions like this from the Chinese where they continue to dictate and act against countries who trade and interact with Taiwan, most of us dont care about the " one China " policy because Taiwan is a separate state. If China doesn't want to recognize Taiwan thats there choice but they have no legal right to dictate to other countries or corporations who want to trade with Taiwan But Shady we need to stop talking about this and now we need to act in a realistic and reasonable way to demonstrate our displeasure with China, I suggest we start boycotting Chinese goods to hurt them where it effects them the most ...economically Now we move from being Internet commentators and we act unequivocally in a RL sense. And I will lead by example, from this moment on I will stop buying Chinese fortune cookies....thats it, no more Chinese fortune cookies for me !!!!!! What is everyone else prepared to sacrifice in this war for liberty and justice
  7. Really...do tell? Send me the links Shady and I'll review this vital data for both of us
  8. I had a very entertaining evening with my friend last night, we went on a major pub crawl and ended up eating an amazing Tapas restaurant call La Parada. We shared multiple dishes and I had the best Beet Short Ribs I have eaten in my life...yes thats a bold statement but I genuinely believe it. I mentioned this before but its so convenient living in the heart of CPT because Im basically at the nexus of 3 major streets that have this plethora of bars and restaurants so we dont need to drive or Uber we just walk https://laparada.co.za/
  9. KP countries like the USA do care about humanitarian issues but you need to also balance that objective with normal global self interest and realistic outcomes when it comes to interfering in other countries internal policies. You dont want to impact things like the global economy because of poor human rights in another country unless its supported by the UN security council so everyone takes there share of responsibility You cant expect the USA to fix the whole worlds problems ?
  10. She really is hot Gorthfuscious, you must watch it
  11. Well let me start off by saying what I like about the video, she is hot and cute when she bumbles through her interpretation of " this clear information around why certain countries have been toppled by the USA " What I dont like includes the fact she doesnt understand how global commodities are sold or who produces them, she doesn't understand the concept of why we have a global currency like the dollar as the worlds reserve currency , she doesnt understand the historical reasons why countries like Venezuala, Libya and Iran are facing the problems they facing and also she keeps referring to things as " absolutely obvious " when they are not because her analysis is flawed and spurious
  12. The Chinese have never been a Democracy and the since the Cold War they have convinced themselves that the idea and concept of a Democracy is something that would be ultimately destructive to there true survival and sustainability and also not in the best interests of most of there citizens What do I think? I have mixed views but from a practical perspective I dont care anymore because the Chinese have an important role in supporting the free market and as long as there internal problems dont impact "Western " countries from global trade and ensuring a better world they should be left alone From a humanitarian perspective its not my business or in my interests to judge the Chinese around how they run there country, if they dont care about realistic and sustainable social justice thats there choice.
  13. I'm overly excited today, one of my good friends from JHB is coming down to CPT for an Amazon partner conference tomorrow. He is going to stay with me and he loves Ribs so Im taking him tonight to this famous Rib restaurant. Then tomorrow night he is also staying with me and we going to go out partying where I can show him the numerous bars and cool eateries in the area I live in I am loving CPT but I miss my friends in JHB who I have known for 15-18 years so its going to be great spending time with him http://stickybbq.com/
  14. Agreed, the only consideration is it depends which country you are living in when you mount the defiance. In countries like China, Egypt and Russia defiance can cost you your life and even if the protest is peaceful you can still get arrested and incarcerated indefinitely with no access to a free and fair legal system
  15. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/jul/09/hong-kong-carrie-lam-says-extradition-bill-is-dead-but-stops-short-of-withdrawal Some good news from Hong Kong, the draconian extradition bill is effectively " dead " I guess the belief in Democratic rights and the ability of people to mobilize and protest can have positive outcomes even when it comes to challenging an undemocratic juggernaut like China
  16. Watch porn ? It always provides some form of elixir to boredom
  17. https://edition.cnn.com/style/article/melania-trump-statue-slovenia-revealed-intl-scli/index.html Here is a more whimsical Trump related story. Melania Trump has had a statue made in her honor from a tree in her hometown in Slovenia, for those who might think " Slovenia who ??? ".....it use to be part of Yugoslavia but is now an independent country in Eastern Europe . Anyway the statue had mixed feedback, personally I like Melania and I do think she means well and has had to put up with a lot married to Trump and his numerous affairs and general disrespect to women
  18. I love my hot sauces, the hotter the better and I constantly purchase new hot sauces to try I found this amazing food deli just up the road from me and they have literally dozens of hot sauces both local and imported I have never tried...so Im elelated and bought this one below with a few more I havent used yet. But the sauce below is great https://www.hotsauce.com/marie-sharps-hot-habanero-pepper-sauce/?matchtype=b&network=o&device=c&adposition={adposition}&keyword=hotsauce&campaign=353789958&adgroup=1326011667224988&msclkid=f11aba2adcc5174b4fd2e70b011e47b5&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=**LP DSA - All Pages&utm_term=hotsauce&utm_content=All Pages
  19. How frustrating, sorry to hear Where do you live again?
  20. Gorthfuscious !!! Thats treasonous talk....you cant call yourself a loyal subject of the crown and think the UK government has made a mess of BREXIT Us patriots know exactly what is going to happen, Boris Johnson will be elected leader of the Conservative Party and the UK will leave the EU with no deal and no agreement on matters like the Irish border....and its going to be an economic disaster as new economic and political deals have to be properly renegotiated. Problem solved When in doubt about the prudent political strategic decisions made by the current UK government never question it and just refer to the poem Dulce et Decorum Est written during WW1 by Wilfred Owen,in the final paragraph where he says My friend, you would not tell with such high zest To children ardent for some desperate glory, The old Lie: Dulce et decorum est Pro patria mor The translation in Latin means " It is sweet and fitting to die for one’s country.”
  21. Skarpen has made several relevant points in his own words and used examples that align to my broader point around the definitions of freedom. And also why perceptions of the inequality and outcomes of Capitalism are not all negative or rather there are real success stories and people who can change there financial status and lifestyle within the free market system despite some financial regulations that are seen as " anti-poor " by some commentators
  22. http://www.historyvshollywood.com/reelfaces/free-state-of-jones/ I watched a movie called the Free State of Jones last night, its based on a true story about a Southerner who basically rebels against the Confederacy. The link above discusses what was fact and fiction in the movie, its a good movie....not great but good and entertaining
  23. I tend to agree with both you and Skarpen in different ways I do think you guys are using extreme examples around what can be classified as freedom, its unlikely that the quality of life and hardships with someone unemployed and homeless can be equated to " freedom " as most of us would define it But you definitely dont need to own property and own " capital goods " (still unclear what you mean ) , have money and or resources to have a sense of freedom. For example you could be renting a place and have a low income job but live in a country where you feel safe and quality of life is excellent ...what about those fortunate people who are in happy and loving relationships or just have great support structures through family or friends ? They may have none of things you seem to define as aspects of Capitalism but I guarantee you they can be both happy and have a sense of freedom I realize I dont have much personal experience with this type of lifestyle but I do try to understand how to make SA a better place because of the deprivations of Apartheid legacy and general high levels of inequality I see. So I do contribute towards a better SA where reasonable and applicable. Anyway I have met people who have no money and no resources and sometimes they arent even employed but work for NGO.....many of these people are still positive and do believe in freedom because they can vote in a Democracy and are included in other components that come with a Democracy So its leads back to my original point how " freedom " really means different things to different people and we should try not to necessarily define this word too critically based on materialist things
  24. Its on Netflix, why cant you watch it there?
  25. I really am feeling the benefit of getting back to gym, I started going back to gym about 3 months ago and I stopped going actively for about 2-3 years before that Anyway Im now doing 50 minutes of cardio 4-6 times a week and especially on the treadmill I can feel how much fitter I am. I have gone back to gym with an approach as it being a lifestyle choice which means I wont stop again and become lazy
