  1. Look you make some good points here, I just still believe this debate is not going to fundamentally change any ones opinion because of the unusual intransigence that exists where people in this election are going to only vote for one person irrespective of what the other side claims....so your valid reasoning doesnt really apply in this case. Are you honestly unsure who you will vote for ....if you are truly uncertain then the debate is important but I have never met heard anyone who is unsure at this stage. And yes I do think Trump has an advantage here but its not your normal advantage I do have a concern with a Biden win, I am worried that the Democrats will overact to address "Trump legacy issues " and want to implement policies that somehow vindicate this strange reality we are seeing where we are suppose to accept ANTIFA anarchy and or accept some of the BLM extreme views that the USA is fundamentally racist and we need to change systems or policies that arent necessary ....Im sorry but the Portland reality is not something you actually want as an acceptable form of social protest in any lawful Democracy And I sincerely hope you wrong about the Harris outcome because that would be a well meaning decision but it would be a bad decision and I would stop supporting Biden I have no issue with Harris but Biden is the reason most people are supporting the Democratic and if that is not the reality then people have been misled and I would be disappointed by the Democrats narrative
  2. Gromnir who are you voting for this election, I remember in the last election most US members said there vote is confidential which surprised me considering the obvious reasons people would be able to explain why they like a certain candidate Your voting choice is only confidential if you feel somehow posting an informed decision cant be shared and I can tell you that I can articulate valid reasons why people may vote for either candidate or Libertarian There is no wrong candidate in this decision
  3. I appreciate your support for the principle of a normal debate but this is an exception to the rule because of reality of the Trump did in the last election In 2016 he successfully manipulated most of the world with endless debates about things he said instead of discussing the practical side of his policies ...we dont want to allow Biden to get pulled into a debate that is more about populism and alternative facts. So Biden mustn't react to meaningless pressure from people who dont care about the actual debate but rather hope Trump may make Biden look weak or uncertain....it doesnt seem like a valid reason for a debate? Trump has helped remind us that white people do matter but we dont another 4 years of his presidency for something that was always true....it seems to be unnecessary after the last 4 years. You must never be ashamed about your race, you dont chose it and you are not defined by bad historical behavior your ancestors may have done
  4. But I find both accusations scurrilous and unfair, what are real examples of either candidate practically somehow implementing a policy that will take away the freedom of anyone in the USA I can believe there is real concern from some people because that is what people keep suggesting but we first have to understand what do we mean by freedom in the context of how that can ever be taken away in a country like the USA? No candidate is going to take anyones freedom away unless I am misunderstanding the definition
  5. Funny enough I also wouldn't recommend Biden debates Trump because that is normally done when you have well researched ideas on policies and have a deep understanding of why the polices should be implemented. The expectation is generally that both candidates have the same overall objective of making the country better albeit in different ways and you normally gain real insights into there future views But with Trump his approach and strategy is pure theater and hyperbole and they are hoping if you can scare and convince enough Americans that "Biden will take everything away from you that defines your citizenship and what matters " ....now what would be point of Biden trying to engage in this type of criticism? Biden is good at normal debates around topics that people can understand and connect with and are based on the actual reality of the USA , Trump is much better at debating in a world of chaos and lack of veracity as long as the point resonates on some levels It would be pointless IMO for this normal type of debate because Biden may even become unnecessarily unsettled....this election is not about the actual polices but who can scare the USA more about how bad the other candidate is. I doubt we will ever see this type of circus again ?
  6. As opposed to the majority of countries where governments are elected through Democratic elections and are accountable to people through transparent legal systems and Constitutions None of these things exist in China
  7. I mentioned there are some things I will miss about Trumps personality....this video highlights an example
  8. I just watched the part of the " swearing of citizens " and I cant think of more blatant example of overt, racial tokenism than that....it was so staged and reeked of pandering it made me laugh I was literally expecting Trump to next find a black baby that he could hug and coddle
  9. Yes this is a huge factor for there personal geo-political goals and there economic survival and transformation is linked inextricably to the USA being there primary export market But they also want to be left alone to influence there region in many areas like Hong Kong and the South China Sea developments
  10. You right it does create an interesting, political dichotomy around who supports Trump Coincidentally there are valid reasons for this dichotomy that our US friends probably wont be too concerned about yet it impacts certain geo-political realities that Trump has both contributed towards and supported and now the question becomes " if he is gone how do you resolve these things that Trump was addressing " ? So the different countries that may or may not support Trump can be broken from a high level perspective into Russia, Israel, Gulf States, Japan and SK who want Trump to win because his foreign policy decisions align with many of there concerns China, the EU and most other Western countries who I would argue prefer a Biden win as Trump has upset and created problems around global alliances and understanding the importance of certain alliances like NATO Conflict of interest indeed, pass the popcorn
  11. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lovecraft_Country_(TV_series) HBO has released a new series called Lovecraft Country and I started watching it, I am thoroughly enjoying it. Its a horror, drama based on the HP Lovecraft world and it has huge potential
  12. Zora you know how I hate getting involved in other peoples debates but Gromnirs right, please dont jump the gun....lets just wait till all the evidence and all the footage has been collated and then we can malign and blame the police for this incident
  13. Not odd at all.....perfectly normal and part of the Trump theater and represents his transmogrification of reality show TV and normal political decorum and strategy There was a time in the beginning of the Trump era, back in 2015, when he started his campaign that this would have both surprised and shocked me but nothing surprises me anymore about Trump If he loses the election, which he should , I am going to miss a few things about him and the positive changes he has brought. For example I have never seen China so obsequious and conciliatory with any US president. China was dismissive of Obama and IMO treated him rudely at times Last night I was watching a really good interview on CNN with Christina Amanpour and a very articulate Chinese CEO of a global think tank and the Chinese guy basically was reiterating that China wants a good and healthy relationship with the USA, how China doesn't want a war with the USA and it was also mentioned how the CCP actually wants Biden to win because Trump is too unpredictable Its interesting how things have changed because the CCP use to like and support Trump
  14. The thought of this legal outcome made me laugh.....you never know it could be true.? What if the person being charged is feeling very, very, very guilty and wants to receive a longer prison sentence than prescribed, like a form of catharsis....then it makes sense
  15. This is definitely a real criticism of Trump and is one of the main factors he should lose the election, his presidency has horrendously and egregiously mishandled the overall Virus pandemic
  16. Elerond do you personally believe people that commit certain capital crimes like murder or a serial rapist should be able to vote....even if the person is serving a life sentence in prison ?
  17. I am watching Season 2 of The Rookie, so far its as good as the first season
  18. Yes but in the video provided by Dark there are several considerations mentioned that lead to the police using deadly force, I am not saying it would justify use of deadly force but if you watch the video you will see Blake was not only fighting with the police, he seemed immune to Tazers and he ignored there instructions to not walk away. Do the police need to wait for a person to actually produce a gun before using deadly force under these circumstances?
  19. I like the term the " outrage culture" ....I am going to use that one
  20. Gorthfuscious I have to say that is one of the most brilliant, informative and funny videos I have ever seen when it comes to discussing societal problems like racism. I am going to share it with people I know Are the people in the video part of the point he is intentionally making? For example does he really get beaten up and does he really throw that camera in the sea? I was amazed by the scene during Australian day where they run after that guy for " not showing the flag "...did that really happen?
  21. This may have been posted before but I love this video, we dont have bears in SA but I always wish I had a bear cub as a pet
  22. I can understand why you would raise this point, you believe that there is far too much attention on violence committed during some protests when in fact most protests are not violent. Ostensibly that is true but it also doesn't help or address the problems that are ongoing in certain US cities like Portland. And the violence and damage to property and people is real. Its societal impact and how ubiquitous the " violent protests " are get used by both the left and right to feed political aspirations with normal citizens caught in the middle But since most of us dont want another 4 years of Trump I am more concerned how his campaign will embellish this violence and use this to gain votes Trump is obviously going to focus on similar sentiment to what you expressed as an example of " Democrats dont care about anarchy and lawlessness .....Democrats hate oil .....Democrats hate God.....Democrats want to take away your guns " ( despite the fact a person could quite possibly not be a Democrat but share some of theses views in a constructive way ) Two things can be true at the same time in life and I honesty believe this applies to this general debate and we should call them out, so for example The majority of protests are not violent There is real violence committed by Antifa and other anarchist groups at some protests that needs to be dealt with effectively So in summary for people who have there livelihoods and lives directly impacted and irrevocably changed by violence in protests the last thing they want to hear is someone making a well meaning comment like " not all the protests are violent or disruptive " .....all this does is feed the Trump narrative of " the left dont care about lawlessness " and could add unintentional support to his campaign
  23. But there is a reality of being confronted by a violent mob on the roads and you in your car and you just want to get away due to an absolute fear of being harmed and or killed It happened to me once in SA during one of our violent protests, there were about 20 armed people in front of me and they were forcing cars off the road. I ignored this and drove off the road to avoid them and then joined the road later on about 100 meters further...I ended up damaging my car but I avoided harming anyone. But I doubt I would have stopped if someone jumped in front of me ...and this is about a fear of your own safety
  24. I think volo may be suggesting exactly that., the concern being I am sure you can be charged if you kill anyone ....in SA this crime is known as culpable homicide. In the USA I think its known as involuntary manslaughter? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Culpable_homicide#:~:text=Culpable homicide is a categorisation of certain offences, how a particular jurisdiction has defined the offence.
