  1. My reasons? First, ranged combat is restricted to bows only. Second, you can cast spells at any time. Third, mounted combat does not exist. How about that? Oblivion is nothing but a dumb down RPG to appeal to the masses, today I read about the influence system being a moronic mini game and I just "Oh **** it".
  2. Every time I read something about this game I end up with more reasons to not even pick up the game box.
  3. I hope you have better luck that me, damn thing decided to fail at 1 giga download.
  4. No, Jade Toil ... Empire does not have a multiplayer mode. I would give up looking for RPGs in the Xbox, let alone ones with multiplayer.
  5. Fed Ex means "go deliver that" or "go pick up that and bring it back to me". Quests became that because the developers are usually rather do such simple quests that complex ones. Nothing wrong with Fed Ex quests as long its clear they are just that and they evolve ... the biggest issue with side quest is they dont affect the game world, the main quests or even other side quests. That IS the issue with side quests, they serve only to give player more XP and loot. And if I happen to just shutdown after getting the goal to go to sleep I will forget what the hell was that about so either Dungeon Siege 2 can be completed in 5 hours or there will be issues with players forgetting what the hell they are supposed to do since they paused/quit the game. I hate "hold to attack" because I end up "click to attack", there are two games that managed to physical damage to me ... one was Wings of Glory (a WW I flight sim that had realistic controls, unfortunatly such controls were pretty bad for my wrist, they eventually patch it with a "F 16 style" control) and Diablo 2. People still play Diablo 2, story mode co-op is not a mode that people tend to use seeing the fiasco of BG and IWD multiplayer. Its not a question of "whats better", Guild Wars pretty much forces co-op and few people group outside missions. Starcraft reference. And no, I dont consider "surround you and surprise you" good AI, you only need "pop up" monsters for the suprise and 5 linked mobs around the same area to surround. Guild Wars have a pretty good AI with mobs having hate lists so they prioratize targets based on what they see, monks usually are target first but I dont see how such AI can be set in such a game. That leads to the fact I am tired of RPGs that have "red dot syndrome", the maps are full of enemies and make it a pain to travel then.
  6. And how many will be the too common Fed Ex and "go kill that"? How many times ... quantity does not equal quality. Thats plain retarded, all games sould have a jornal with a quest entry saying what is the next step ... this is not PnP were the DM can just point the player to the next step if they got lost. I have no idea of what you just said ... We all know the success of BG and IWD multiplayer ... Zerg rush tactics ...
  7. The only thing good Dungeon Siege had was the hot girl in the cover.
  8. The DS sold over a million units in europe and I think the numbers will be higher in japan and america. The article does state the reason, Nintendo is not publishing many titles and console sales are declining (the DS launch come and gone as the GC is nearing its end of live) and unlike Sony and Microsoft that can hide under other operations Nintendo does games and gaming alone and even Sony (expecialy) and MS are showing large losses so it seen Nintendo is doing better that its competition. I would not worry about Revolution doing worst that GameCube, I dont think that is even possible.
  9. There are more broken systems that D&D 3.5 or d20 ... usually when trying to adapt then to cRPGs. I hold no interrest over D&D worlds anymore, the game could be really good but that ends up being the same as a sports game being really good since I dont like sports game, the setting on a game is important I am not going to play on a world that I dislike.
  10. Ravenloft was the dumping ground of D&D back in TSR days ...we got Forgotten Realms there, DragonLance, the default D&D setting (that I forget the world name) ... It was a junkyard. Sure it have its appeal if you venture of the "setting shards". I said this once and I will say it again, Forgotten Realms was ruined by TSR and WotC running it as a novel setting ... it shows the reasons to why not many play DragonLance and its only going to get worst. Eberron ... bah, I dont play D&D anymore so Atari can shove it.
  11. I said on adverage, it happens because a few years ago we had text with a few voice overs but now almost every game that comes out must have voice acting since that is expected. We all know the quality of TV movies tends to be lower that theater movies but such classification does not exist in games that much since bargin bin games then to very little (if any) voice acting. And the truth is given the oportunity to do a animation voice over or a game voice I think most would do the animation voice over, the problem is NOT voice actors thenselves but how voice actors in games are not very good.
  12. There are good and bad actors, games tend to end up with the worst because its viewed as a "inferior" media, you cannot really compare the adverage game voice actor with the adverage movie actor. The Star Wars prequels are not a good example since all the actors in the movie are considered to be good but they had a incredible poor performance, I blame Lucas for it more that I blame then ... its a exception and not a rule.
  13. No more Jedi Knight? WTF? I hope they do move to how Dark Forces was.
  14. True but characters end up sterotyped since its hard to make then much grey, in Squall case we could read what he was thinking at times so it was not that big of a sterotype. Riona ends up with trust issues, she was pushed aside by her father for the assasination mission and then she "sticks out" of the group since she is the only one not connected to the "Orphanage Gang" ... then she becames a sorceress. I think the worst of then is Selphie, a lot due to not having meaningfull development (unlike the others), sure they tried on the Garden that was destroyed but that is blown away minutes with the whole Edea Orphanage disclosure.
  15. No. Squall is a loner (no wonder, considering his past) and when he meet Riona he acts as he usually does, Riona does push him to actual dance with her just to leave him. Then when they meet again Squall finds out Riona have a thing for Seifer. Squall takes a long time to admit his feelings for Riona, only when Riona goes into a coma is when that happens. I say its done right because it shows a lot of the on going relation, when Riona and Squall get inside the starship she wants a hug (and Squall shows that is Laguna son by being cluess about), then there is the part were Squal prevents Riona from being sealed. The FMV were very well done in showing feelings. Compare it with FF X Tidus-Yuna romance that is a joke, its as bad as KotOR 2 romaces.
  16. Recorded dialogue and disk space. When it was just text it was one thing, with voice acting is anoter. A lot of things that were done in older games cannot be done now because of how technology evolved and space and cost became a issue.
  17. Not the issue. The issue is that because there is only so much content that can be made when romances are a option they are disconnected from the story because making the connection would require extra work, dialogue and so time and money. So romances are half assed.
  18. That is the problem, romances being a option end up being disconnect, short and empty. I think that is why BG2 romances were good because there was expecific interaction ... Bodhi would kidnap the romance and turn into a vampire, there were expecific comments on turning into the slayer. Romances cannot be just a option, they must be connected to the story and most of the time they are not, a NPC just have a crush on the main character and have some dialogue related to it.
  19. Time Stop is not even that good, its simply going to waste one of the 9th level slots so the wizard can cast a buch of lower level spells, it can be praticable at times but not always, expecialy against enemies of his levels that are likely to not be affected much by whatever he is casting.
  20. Time Stop is impossible to be on a online game, even if the 3rd ed changed "stop time" to "moving really fast" it does not alter the fact its not meant for online play ... lets see how "D&D online" deals with such a spell. And yes, Time Stop became a opening spell for high level players but at that play level things are out of wack anyway, remenber that the wizard "sucked" at low levels so he can shine at high levels.
  21. Role-Player is just saying that because she would burst his balls. Fear portuguese women ... heck fear women!
  22. Well EA does not have to worry about it, even with the blur removed they are "Barbie and Ken", in fact Maxis said they could have put anatomical correct textures but decided otherwise due to the cheat codes and the US rating ... they knew full well what would happen and covered for it. He can try but that means going after hundred of sites that offer such content, EA is not willing to do so and that EA is a monster, he will lose against EA.
  23. Micosoft does not have "faith", at this point they back up any game to be a Xbox exclusive ... even if they lose money with that game. The Xbox game profolio is not as diverse and large as the Playstation.
