  1. One "flaw" would of course be that no neutral path could exist. There could be different levels of light and dark but no truly neutral option. I feel that the way things were meant in Star Wars, is that there exist a clear definition between light and dark where each side has its own benefits but that you must choose, and that choice will determine your continued existence. The further you go down one path the more powerful you'll be but you can never walk two paths at once. And in the films we havent seen, nor will we ever see, a lightside Jedi using darkside powers and vice versa. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I've always liked the unified force theory, I like to think the Dark Side refers to the darkness in ones own heart. Even the best good-guys, the ones with the purest souls have some evil thoughts, even though they might not act on them, Conversely even the most despotic villain will have some semblance of conscience, some feeling left inside of him though he will probably hide it deep inside an refuse to aknowledge it even exists. In short I believe that force powers are not in and of themselves light or darkside, even if the game mechanics say otherwise. Consider for example a "lightside" Jedi using force lightning to short-circuit a primitive security system of a building so he can enter it unnoticed, or the villain using the force heal someone only to torture that person to the brink of death again.
  2. I've played mostly light side (male and female) although I did play the darkside ending once by letting Bastilla tempt me to join with her on the top of the temple, as for playing DS the whole game, I just couldn't get myself to do it, not because I don't like the darkside or being the villain (on the contrary, I love it), I just didn't like Bioware's interpretation of the Darkside/being evil forcing you to be an ordinary thug and a bully. When I'm evil, I want to be able to manipulate people, turn friends against eachother, corrupt the innocent, etc. however I don't want to steal their lunch credits.
  3. Force potential doesn't depend from gender. You're a sexist caveman. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well for some reason there does seem to be an overabundance of male force users compared to females especially in the upper echelons, but maybe that is because somehow women might not feel the need to develop their potential to its maximum.
  4. If we're talking Anakin Skywalker vs. Bastilla Shan in one on one lightsabre combat then Anakin would most likely win. If we're going to look at how the characters are portrayed, Hayden Christensen as Anakin in the Prequels vs. Jenifer Hale as Bastilla Shan in KOTOR then Bastilla would win without even breaking a sweat.
  5. If you choose to count midichlorian count as power then you may be right, however I do not believe Vader to be the most powerful Jedi/Sith ever because it's not just how much raw power you have that counts it's also about knowledge of the force and the universe in general and having the intelligence to apply that knowledge to further ones goals. Vader has always struck me as a lackey, beneath all that machinery he was still the naive and easily manipulated boy (first Palpatine manipulates him to abandon the Jedi order and then many years later his own son, uses his weakness to turn him against the emperor, thus manipulating him again) he was portrayed to be in the prequels. I believe either the Emperor, Joda (in his prime) or the more experienced Luke (after the unified force theory) to be the most powerful Jedi ever. I do like Revan very much and he was definitely one of the more powerful Jedi, a brilliant tactician and a charismatic leader and those last two qualities are what makes him superior to Vader in my book, even though I have no doubt Vader would wipe the floor with him in one on one saber combat. My all time favorite Star Wars character though would definitely emperor Palpatine, I mean he was operating in plain sight of the Jedi council for several decades and they did not suspect him of being a Sith Lord (or even having force abilities) at all.
  6. LOL, think female sith lord with lightwhip. (Though that would admittedly be more Bioware style)
  7. Well, you can make an RPG harder by making the choices harder, e.g., difficult moral dilemma's with a wide variety of outcomes.
  8. Well a robe should be just that, a robe you should IMHO still be able to select the boots, pants and shirt to go with it. While I do think a well written CRPG in which we play a non-force using character in the Star Wars universe ( I'm rather fond of the noble class in the D20 version myself) would have a lot of potential and should definately be explored sometime in the future KOTOT is IMO, hardly the series for it. *takes deep breath and ignores the way Hades has been posting this sort of argument ever since... ever! * Not backwards, more sideways. The narrower the character creation options, the more the devs can "know" your character and thereby weave story around them. An excellent example of this was that fabulous Revelation moment in KOTOR1, which needed a pretty tight character creation scheme in order to work. (The PC couldn't have been an Ithorian, because it'd have broken the cutscenes; (s)he couldn't have been as young as Bastila, because she was trained at an early age and still a Padawan at the time of the Mandalorian war; etc, etc.) Catering to lots of fundamentally different sorts of characters broadens the game and thereby costs in depth, since there's a finite amount of development time available. With the converse philosophy you get games like Morrowind (which I enjoyed just as much as KOTOR1, truth be told). You can do anything and be anyone, but there's comparatively little flowing, told-out story for each character concept: it's a different experience. Planescape: Torment (which, shockingly, I've never completed) is kind of the ultimate in character creation restrictiveness, although in a sense I don't understand why. Is there a reason why the Nameless One starts as a 3rd level fighter rather than a 0th level nobody who has to find some way of recovering one memory or another before he becomes an adventurer of any worth (giving you the chance to pick which path to go down somehow, thereby choosing a class from the get go)? (No, don't actually tell me: but does that get explained? I might be spurred on to playing more of the game if I know it will be...) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Even if you design a story where the main character for plot reasons has to be a male human in his mid twenties, you should still let the player customize that character both through lots of dialog options and the ability to design or specify things such as face, body, clothes and if the engine supports it tattoos, jewelry and other accessories because it'll help most players identify with the(ir) character.
  9. Regardless of what some might say I would very much like to have much more options with regards to face, clothing and body in the character creation process.
  10. Hopefully Bio will lease out their Jade Empire engine... ^_^ <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Jade Empire would be X-Box only, besides their new Dragon Age Engine looks much more promising.
  11. I think I'll still visit the off Topic and NWN2 sections of these forums but I'll probably avoid this one until I actually have the game. I just hope the mods will do their jobs and keep KOTOR 2 spoilers out of the other sections of these boards.
  12. I agree this "setback" may be a blessing is disguise, I wasn't too thrilled either when I heard Lucasarts was initially going to develop it in-house. If KOTOR 2 turns out to as or even more successful then its predecessor then it might now mean that obsidian or maybe even Bioware could get the KOTOR 3 development which would in my opinion be much better then Lucasarts developing it themselves.
  13. KOTOR 2, Fardragon goes too far.
  14. I don't really care very much about hockey (don't hate either it though) but weighing in on this topic as a European I'd dare say that hockey players aren't paid nearly as much as some soccer players (which is a sport I really, really hate). If all (successful) business owners handled their financial affairs impeccably all the time I know a lot of colleagues of mine who'd be out of a job. Making mistakes now and then even really big ones is human. I must say I don't agree with statement 4. There's at least two groups of people who are to the best of my knowledge much, much worse than fans: Judges and Politicians, though that is just my personal opinion.
  15. You can afford a Jaguar but not the parking space? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The money isn't that much of a problem to be honest though I do prefer to spend it on other things rather then dumping it in a parking meter, however as I said I work the center of Amsterdam (the canal belt if you're curious) and just finding a spot to park the car is more of a hassle than it is worh.
  16. KOTOR 2: Bite of the Hutts.
  17. Jaguar XJ-6 (Though I don't use it all that often since finding affordable parking space or for that matter any parking space in the center of Amsterdam is just not possible).
  18. I second this, definately one of Bioware's better features and more importantly it shows they care about the community and their customers.
  19. Revan is/was in my opinion not a failed character concept at all, he was needed both as the catalyst for the events that led up to the game as well as it's resolution if only for the simple fact that the ragtag band of characters that compromise your party in KOTOR need a leader and none of the other characters save Canderous ever really struck me as being able to lead a team and in the world of Star Wars morally ambiguous characters like Canderous wouldn't make a good leader to go on a quest for the Star Forge or even the Jedi order in general. Bastilla never really struck me as someone who'd be able to lead herself let alone others through some epic quest from the way she behaves in game, she has little to no empathy with the "common" people and absolutely lacks the ability to identify with them (that doesn't mean I don't think there would be possibilities for Bastilla to eventually become a great leader but not until she's matured more emotionally which is IMO exactly what her interaction, her bond with Revan (sep. male Revan) can provide to her. I do agree that Bastilla would have a greater affinity with the force Revan and could possibly become more powerful than Revan ever was. If you'd ask me for a comparison with other well known Jedi I'd guess that Revan would be about as powerful (in force ability) as Mace Windu. However what you seem to forget, Nur is that power is not only defined by your affinity with the force or physical prowess but is in fact a combination of Factors what made Revan a powerful and feared Sith Lord was IMO not his command of the force but the simple fact that he can command the force combined with a formidable intellect and strategic insight coupled with great charisma, these are the two characteristics that define Revan not his awesome command of the force (although it was well above average and certainly within the top 5% or so of force users).
  20. This will probably mean that the International release of the PC version will be delayed even further in order to grant International X-box owners an exlusive title for a few months just like their brethren in the US.
  21. Another Mod, whatever happened to Adria?
  22. I think I can give a tentative answer for that, considering the fact that the KOTOR series of games are loosely based on the Star Wars D20 RPG rules by WOTC, I don't think so, since fixed skill rank maxima are an integral feature of the D20 ruleset.
  23. The Force definately (nothing in Star Wars beats force lightning), I just love playing the consular class in game however as for non-force using characters and RPG in general you forgot to include the option minions/henchmen/servants for non-force using characters(and force characters who prefer not to fight themselves) .
  24. Will there be more clothing (and Robe) options to customize your character, will we be able to customize our clothing at least somewhat?
  25. Yeah, and it's probably going to hit me trice as hard because I couldn
