  1. Manga/Brotherhood for me. More interesting layers to the setting, IMO. Both are usable though.
  2. He's in Stonebridge. You get him during a sidequest in the meisters hall there. Just finish Glitterdelve, then begin the Stonebridge story.
  3. Avellone in stream (it begins) http://www.twitch.tv/inxile_entertainment/
  4. At the rate its going. Yes, it will. Or it will be pretty damn close.
  5. 1. I don't agree with him. The edo period (or a fictional version of it) is certainly a interesting background. It's a little more used than other settings but that doesn't make it bad. 2. It helps. And I want interesting charachters too. But interesting charachters don't have to be already established ones. A setting can give birth to really great charachters due to its quirks. This is especially evident in everything Avellone writes. TNO, Kreia, Dean, Elija, the think tank. And again, I meant this thread to highlight interesting settings that rpg's can use as a background. From an economical perspective, from a thematic perspective or just general stuff. For example how *magic* works in said settings. Again mentioning FMA and HxH here since both use a rather *interesting* system regarding it.
  6. Oh, please. Please not the "original" argument. It's not what I'm talking about in the slightest. As do charachters so can settings be well executed with (for example) political struggels, economies and larger themes. Not to mention lore. And Game of Thrones, apart from the charachters has a lot of that too. So, the point is kinda moot. By your logic why would writers want to write something aside from the established charachters in a setting anyway if it apparently doesn't matter? It does. (Sorry, if I'm being rude . It was just kinda my point to talk about settings which you can set interesting charachter driven narratives IN)
  7. The setting should be somewhat established though and important in the manga/comic/cartoon/anime itself. Charachter driven narratives are fine but as others said before if the setting itself is easily replacable its kinda missing the point of this thread. Thats also why I thought FMA is a really good suggestion. Or Avatar too. Or HxH as I suggested.
  8. HunterxHunter Because of its moral ambiguity, its crazy balance of power (Probably also influenced by my desire to play an rpg with combat scenarios where the goal is to just *somehow* survive) and its general bleakness. Also I still love stuff like Meteor City being the ****hole/dumping ground of the world while in turn a place that is completly off the grid too.
  9. We discussed this already previous to the South Park reveal, but I think its a interesting topic to discuss. Archer for example is frequently mentioned as a perfect setting for a "spiritual" Alpha Protocol sequel. So, what's your favourite?
  10. The assumption being release a successful game, in order to look viable and profitable to publishers. Fan good will for devs means nothing to publishers. Yeah, but it needs time till it is successfull (IF it is successfull) and even more time till a publisher takes notice. Where does Obsidian get the money from in that time frame? They NEED projects at all times . And they need one before the South Park contract runs out.
  11. Actually, I wondered about the context concerning the chat itself. Apparently, I've been influenced by some answers because it's just an initiative Fryan Bargo did on his free time with MCA/CFA/JCA/Fruity. Nerdy Internet communities sure love to nickname Chris. By the way, we got a new cool piece of art: http://i.imgur.com/u0cTY.jpg CFA isn't a Nickname, by the way.. It's his initials.
  12. It was done yesterday. And there was no Wasteland 2 at Pax. Again follow my link http://www.reddit.com/user/ChrisAvellone/ Read Chris answers. If you want context click context. Easy as that.
  13. Avellone has given more than 80 answers so far.
  14. During the recent (still alive) AMA on reddit. Multiple Obsidian related Q&A too. http://www.reddit.com/user/ChrisAvellone/
  15. Morgoth, sometimes I love you for bringing a smile to my face.
  16. Reminder that the Reddit AMA with Fargo and Avellone starts in 10 minutes.
  17. Doubtful. He was on South Park in the first place and he would probably one of the least considered people to cut. Except if he wants to himself. I wonder what he will do at Obsidian after South Park and/or if he is involved with the Kickstarter project. A project like that with a small team sounds right up his alley.
  18. Imo, Alan Wake was great (except for some parts). And I still truly respect Remedy especially now after the incredible support regarding the PC Version.
  19. As for the Thread title: Nobody underrates Tim Cain. Especially not Obsidian. He's well respected. In the hardcore-crpg crowd maybe the most respected. Secondly: Actually Bloodlines was probably the Troika title Cain was least invested in. Arcanum the most. (He seems to prefer Top-Down/"Isometric" turn-based combat a lot more in general.) Otherwise, yeah. VTM:B was a great game and I would love to see another (improved) game in the setting.
  20. I don't know how their deal with South Park is, but why would they need a released game. They need more work if anything.
