  1. I am 100% on it. I actually pleaded in a forum a couple months ago for them to delay it and fix the co-op. Maybe they actually read this boards :))
Please don't feel so entitled. If the reason for the delay IS the co-op we'll see. But even then. Don't act like it was because of you.

Dude seriously, take a second... breath deep...

Every time I post anything on this forum you troll on it so hard. I was just saying that I had at one time wished they would make changes to co-op, and now they are. I'm happy. I never once stated that it was because of me, or any of it was my doing.

Maybe they actually read their boards

You sure as hell implied it.

Edit: Anyway, we'll see. May have written that out of troll.

  2. I have to agree with LoF. And I really mean HAVE to. Gut wounds being the incredibly painful slow death that they are, you just don't get armour which leaves you exposing your nice bare pregnantable midriff.

If anyone knows of any armour from ANY period or culture which does leave the stomach exposed, and protects your shoulders, do let me know.

Bare midriff armour is solely for the purposes of horning up male gamers.

Of course I'm hoping this is intended to nurture some counter-cultural movement to enhance positive and realistic women in games. By which I mean women who actually look as if they could pick up a rifle - Starbuck style. Rather than an excuse to found a government bureau which will try to stop unreasonable female sexiness by shooting devs in the face.

First off again its exaggerated. Armor pieces arranged like that? No. Its a comic style that doesn't want to be realistic in the first place. So what should we ban this artstyle? There are other examples that actually try to represent reality but fail way better for this cause.

Secondly: I don't have a picture but usually light infrantry troops didn't wear full torso armor and only armor to protect certain body parts. It usually depended. Romans come to mind.

  3. Just because the article is a little over a month old doesn't make it any less possible that it could be the reason for the delay.

Sure, but it definitely doesn't make it any more likely. THe destructoid article has nothing to do about the delay unless other information suggests so.

Anyway, I'm fine with delay, anything to make the game better.

    It wasn't.

  5. Good news that they finally realized that the co-op was a terrible idea, but now the fix is still not what we want. Obsidian has a giant boner for the story they wrote and won't let us have created characters. At the very least we need to be able to play 2 versions or more of the same character in multiplayer.

No, actually. If Borderlands taught anything is that 4 times the same charachter isn't always that good an idea.

  6.

Doesn't inspire a lot of confidence and it's just the last of a string of bad news. Still holding high hopes for the game, but I fear this will be Alpha Protocol: the Fantasy Hack'n'Slash version. Prove me wrong, Obsidz, pretty please. Just this time, prove me wrong.

I'd love me some Alpha Protocol Hack n' Slash Version. :shifty:

    Edit: Nope. Sorry.

Edit2: Well that rpgsite post IS rather worrying.

  7. lazy devs

You're an entitled idiot and someone needs to let you know. There's not liking a design decision (which I myself find a little weird, at the very least) and there's been disrespectful of the work of people. Trust me, not even the worst developer deserves being called "lazy" and I wish I had a hammer to beat people for every time they say it.

    Edge Games?

    Otherwise true.

  8. The game will be crap. you cant even tweak your companions abilities or inventory? Lame. Why are devs constantly taking steps backward in terms of game developing? All they want to do is slash features, slash gameplay options, slash this and slash that. I hate this minimalist bullcrap that devs are doing these days. Oh and coop is so stupid in this game why would anyone play multiplayer? And then you ask why would anyone even play this game because games like this were MADE to be played coop.

    Thats just wrong.

    You're hilarious though.

  9. No the male armors have

    - Way too big shoulder pads with completly useless stuff on it.

I really can stop right there because the comical part is actually quite the opposite with Male armors. Way too much stuff and way too heavy. To actually put on that stuff you would easily need half an hour. Less time the more helpers you have. And you need them. And don't get me started on how much mobility you would actually have in that thing.

Though. To be fair. Fantasy in general ignores that/has that problem. Still, WOW armor is ridicules in that aspect.

Yes, but if you'll notice, those are exaggerations of actual features of armor. Armor is heavy. It has pauldrons. "Big hole in the stomach" has not been an actual feature of any armor since we figured out how to make clothing that covers the whole body.

I agree on the female part by the way. There were multiple female warriors in history. Though they were rare, very rare exceptions.

About the armor. Thats just historically wrong. Full Body Armor isn't the only type of armor in history.

  10. Consider the following; video game's target demographic is male, the majority of game developers are male (women only make 3% of the industry)

Women may be gravitating more towards video games but they are still a minority and on the developer's side there isn't enough knowledge of what a realistic representation of a strong woman is (hell they can't even do realistic men, but we don't complain) Plus I don't see them rushing over to change things since the target demography is still predominately male.

I don't see how the gaming industry being a boys club is really an excuse. It seems more like a bad thing than a good one.
Yeah, call me again when World of Warcraft aimed for an realistic artstyle.
Funny how the male model, wearing the same armor, doesn't have a big hole in it.

As for rushing. Well, yes. It will still shift since that target demographic includes more and more female gamers. Again, its a process.

  11. .
What do you do? Judge people by appearance or judge them by personality?

Because a ****load of people do the first. Its especially evident when everyone judges a certain group of people just by appearance to be whores/sluts/emos/whatever stamp you want to give to a person. That good or progressive for you?

People's appearance is, in certain ways, a result of their personality. The two aren't completely independent, and that's understood. People who swordfight regularly aren't going to be skinny. People who are celibate or planning to go into a knock-down-drag-in fight aren't going to be wearing dental floss for clothes. I mean, this is one of the best armors in World of Warcraft. It has a giant hole for you to stab the lady in the stomach. I don't think I'm judging people on appearance too much to say that someone who would choose to wear clothes like that into a fight is a moron.

Yeah, call me again when World of Warcraft aimed for an realistic artstyle. This also counts for the first argument. And no those points aren't connected. Sure people wear things/train their bodies appropriatly/benefital for certain activities. That doesn't mean they do it always or that they are incapable of executing their abilities anymore. Well, not as good and in extreme situations there are exceptions but still...

Gaming needs more women in actual armor though. Yes. Absolutly. Or, in general more games that go for actual realism.

Anyway, point still somewhat taken and I'm not speaking out against the thread. Its very good to highlight artistic achievements. (I would strongly disagree on the TF2 swaps though for different reasons.)

  12. I.... don't really think that the problem is "theres more of this than that". Because.... thats not really an argument as much as a observation of a behavior. There is also more porn aimed at males than porn aimed as females and this has good reasons.
Yes, because female sexuality is (much) more stigmatized than male sexuality.
Not to mention the male side of humanity is still in a phase to shift their behavior towards the female gender. And that process didn't really begin a long time ago.

And I don't really see whats wrong with that. Its a process. Theres already a lot more female designers joining gaming companies that will hopefully turn the trend around and give diversity to female charachters.

And part of that process is criticizing what already exists, and showing how it could be better. Not sure what your point is here.
I generally find it much worse when the actual representation of the gender is misused and charachters suddenly act out of charachter just to satisfy a gender stereotype (Madison Paige for example). Or other stuff like daddy issues which "require" that strong male help to solve.
Bad writing is definitely a problem too (Other M), but clothes and shape also represent a kind of forced gender stereotyping and activity. After all, people aren't (generally) forced to wear clothes, they choose to wear them, nor are body types solely the result of nature's providence (and, for a lot of character designs, couldn't occur without surgery).
Edit2: The porn archetypes I meant were a mix of the typical teacher and nurse. Just for the info.
Lots of people wear glasses who aren't teachers, way to engage in backwards stereotypes!

    *flips table over*

    1. Yeah. True and still going. Nothing like it was not even 100 years ago though as its way more open now. Progress. And this is was normal back then. The more back in time the worse it is.

    2. Yeah. How could it be done better, I ask? Ban it? Critizizing is totally fine. When its actually appropriate. Shouting out in the world against EVERYTHING regarding it isn't really helping.

    3. And why is the second one worse and more rooted against? I ask. What do you do? Judge people by appearance or judge them by personality?

Because a ****load of people do the first. Its especially evident when everyone judges a certain group of people just by appearance to be whores/sluts/emos/whatever stamp you want to give to a person. That good or progressive for you? *Personal Rant over*

    4. I said PORN archetypes. Yeah there are backwardes stereotypes in there.

  13. There's also this great blog post that highlights the diversity of male builds.

    Edit: I'll post some too.

Edit2: The porn archetypes I meant were a mix of the typical teacher and nurse. Just for the info.

Edit3: Good, thread by the way. Its already well known too but I think Visas Marr also fits the thread.

  14. From what I gather through the timeline she gathered loyal support to the point where she could influence things strongly. Then she took out the loyal military (Legion) by playing them out against the populace and monarchie through blaming the kings death on them. (How she managed that, we'll see).

Edit2: Sadly, the entry makes it a little unclear if she plans to take the throne for herself or just destroy the kingdom right there. Seems to contradict a bit with the timeline.

From what I remember of the time line, Jeyne wasn't the one who originally blamed the Legion, it was the King's family. Most notably because the King was paranoid and extremely wary of the Legion. Jeyne acted on this and lead the hunt for the Legion.

It seems clear to me that Jeyne wants to control the whole of Ehb, but she's not interested in the throne itself. She's the head of the Azunite church, and it's through the Azunites that she wants to hold power, creating a new system for the country.

    From the timeline

Fall of the 10th Legion. The young and charismatic Jeyne Kassynder calls a crusade against the Legion, naming them murderers and kingslayers. Thousands of people rise up to sack the Legion's chapterhouses and slaughter the legionnaires in the streets. Grand Master Hugh Montbarron makes a final stand in the Rukkenvahl, but he and his legionnaires are slain by Jeyne Kassynder.

There were already tensions before though with Hendrik sezing Legion properties.

"CO: So any loot that you find is actually going to go to the host player?

RT: The inventory is actually shared. The (inventory) screen that the host is using is only going to show the inventory that he can equip. Most of the pieces are unique to the characters. The two types that are shared are rings and amulets; those can go on any character. Those are actually rare items that you come across in the game, but you can hash that out with who you are playing with…The gold is also pooled between the characters.

CO: So none of the items, the gold or anything, would go back to the guest"s game?

RT: That’s correct. When I jump in on his game as his companion, I’m playing with him on his game. The quest states, the gold, the items, and experience all stay."

uh? is that both offline and online? if that proves true...way to go to shoot yourself in the foot Obsidian, I guess I will stick playing Sacred 2 or even Too Human on my 360, at least I can co-op properly there...

Good luck with that XBLA Diablo-clone game you're making Obsidian, you'll need it....

    1. This is an old interview. Already posted.

    2. Shared Inventory is known for a long time. Considering most loot is unique to a charachter anyway this isn't a real problem.

    3. This is only local. (Which is also mentioned RIGHT AT THE BEGINNING OF THE ARTICLE) Dude......

Naturally its still not great. But its nothing we did not know.
